    thank you for a great video, easy enough explanation to someone who just jumped into this video with no prior understanding or idea of the industry

    I am a total beginner with all this stuff but you put it forward i in a very understandable way. i have a little knowledge about servers and have a buddy who works as a data centre engineer but till now didn't quite understand his job

    Maas Installation, for Linux has things like "Fabrics", and "Spaces" which are IMHO really important concepts that can help to further define the Maas Architecture. It is worth looking into that as well - as far as the "cool" factor goes. You can install Maas using your own baremetal!

    great point regarding compliance and security - that drives businesses to get metal as a service.

      + Eli the Computer Guy - is it possible to post an update to the video with regards to how MaaS is doing in the industry? Thanks.

    1: I like the concept. This practice would be better if rate of changing cpu socket is slower.
    2: What are SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS in 2 minutes, and it is easier to understand than reading Wikipedia. Good Job : )

    So yea I know this video is a couple years old at this point, but I'm sitting here wondering if the entire time I have been leasing servers, have I been getting metal as a service? The reason why I'm wonder this is because I've always had access to iDRAC or iLO cards, on every single dedicated server I've leased.

    Dumb question: how would you install an os remotely? You don't have access to a cd drive or usb port...

    • @kardas666
      @kardas666 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      company most likely has an image server with popular OS images on their network provisioned throuh pxe or the like for first install, then you would create your own maas server implementation (citrix or ubuntu maas f.e.) and populate it with images you need, and provision your servers throuh pxe yourself.

    • @salvadorguntherr9673
      @salvadorguntherr9673 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PXE installs. Which are installs that happen over the network (ie all you need is a server/another computer withthe image and ethernet) Gonna have to do this on my Thinkpad soon enough

    • @tadeumazier706
      @tadeumazier706 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes PXE but launched into a virtual machine, but not locally, the PXE starts on a remote XEN Hypervisor as such, and to access it connects via SSH, RDP ...

    Imagine this .... Telcos Central Offices become Edge Data Centres and they sell MaaS to the public cloud service providers.
    So now those hyperscale data centres up in the NORDICs no longer have a latency problem with a user in London because the user is always within a 4 mile radius of the Central Office (Telephone Exchange).
    A new revenue stream for the Telcos who's revenue streams have previously been cannibalised by the hyperscallers

    I like you man, but this one is wrong, wrong explanation, wrong examples maybe wrong understanding of maas, but don't take this the wrong way man, I like you, just make this right

    • @gerff01
      @gerff01 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is close enough for a "dumbed down" explanation. Do you expect a channel like this, directed at non professionals, to go into the hardcore details of a solution? He hit the basics, gave those who wish to learn enough information to get them started, and that is the entire purpose of these vids. Have you seen the rest of his materials, really? Because they are ALL for this purpose. He isn't going to go into deep tech details or specific implementations.

    • @frfweb
      @frfweb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ok Gerff, I know, and I like the guy, my point was valid though, however my tone may have not, so sorry guys, as I mentioned in my first comment I was frustrated by google io already...lol, so it came out wrong. Anyway sorry to you and Eli. keep it on Eli!
