I like how Astra's speech impediment disappears when she thinks she's alone. It makes her seem more real, like her anxiety is caused by being around other people, and it isn't just a character trait of 'this person is always anxious'. I also like the instruction to the listener to only "shift if you need to", and that we held off through the vet's initial confusion, then getting muzzled, then the anesthetic wearing off and the pain returning, and only when threatened with a drug overdose of "maybe I can up the dosage" did we finally and immediately shift.
As I've said about other stuff before: it's the little details that make something good turn into a masterpiece.

I love how Astra sounds absolutely Done at the end there

Goodness sakes woman close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, you wont be harmed and you can still live a normal life you just gotta agree to not say anything about the werewolf presence here, not like anyone would believe you if you tried to out us
Half the population is hiding something (vampirism, lycanthropy, etc.), so there's not really much point, anyway. It's not like those humans would be able to do anything about it if they knew. It just keeps the peace for them to not know.

Hmmm...that is a good question.
It's up to interpretation.
They can belong to the Aster Pack, which are the wolf pack in Kalmia. Or they can be a lone wolf.
(I had written with the intention of the wolf being part of the Aster Pack, but it can be either!)
