I've just purchased one of these laptops - I've watched lots of reviews and yours is the best I have seen, dispelling any doubts I may have had about my choice. You've covered all the main points about this that a buyer needs to know about - thanks for a thorough and well presented review that doesn't waste time with a lot of padding.
This is the only review that covers all the including tiny details of this laptop. thank you very much. can you do a Dell inspiron 13 7000 2 in 1 please. ( 7390 )
First time I visit you, sure glad I did. Your voice is very clear and your descriptions are of the most precise and intelligent I have watched and listened to. I cant wait to watch more of our videos!
Your review of the Dell XPS 13 was understandable and very informative. Comparing my Dell 15 R3 to your XPS 13 is giving me buyers remorse. The features do not compare. The tablet mode pulled me in but, the pen just blew me away. As to the price; you get what you pay for. I would buy one. Thank you Shannon for your review.
@@TascamTascam 1. If I was paid, it would be mentioned. I follow the government regulations on sponsorship and paid advertising because unlike some TH-camrs, I don't want to get sued due to ignorance. 2. It sounds like you've had some issues with your machines, and that sucks. If you take a look at my YEARS of HakTip videos on the Hak5 channel, you'll see an xps13 in Every. Single. Video. That's the laptop I mentioned in the video, which I haven't had overheating problems with. Constructive criticism is welcome, but please leave the personal bashing at home.
Thanks for the great review. I have the XPS 13 7390 ordered, but shipping is very slow at the moment. I have an older 2 in 1 that I rarely used the tablet mode so I decided to forgo that option this time. It was an HD display that was getting hard to read for my old tired eyes so I also opted for the 4K display. This is a close copy of the one I'm getting so much of your review should still be of value. Thanks.
This is my favorite review by far. The ports on the side are what I was most concerned about- coming from an older laptop im going to miss having an HDMI port. Thank you for focusing on this! NO ONE ELSE has! (I found adapters online for HDMI!)
It’s a great review, I just wish everybody stopped talking specs and focused on the benefits of the tablet mode. Ur video is the only one that covers a little bit but never enough How does it perform with google chrome? Does it feel natural holding it with the keyboard on the back when in laptop mode? Can it do everything the same when in laptop mode but on the tablet side ? Does the keyboard come up like in a tablet when wanting to type instead of the actual keyboard? Those it freezes? Does the computer crash? That type of stuff Do you think u can do a video covering tablet mode only. Because 2-1 laptops are still very new and a lot of ppl as myself don’t understand yet Thank you. Everyone is right ur video is the best
These are all great questions! I did have to send this review unit back several months ago but I'll reach out to Dell and see if I can get a new unit in to do a video just about the tablet mode.
Thank you for replying It looks like a great tablet. I just wished Best Buy was open to test one out. I appreciate you taking the time to reply in return it’s good to know there are wonderful ppl who care and listen to their viewers
Nice review. However, I think surface pro is still best. It is lighter in terms of weight. It has a kickstand which prevents screen wobble when using touch screen gestures. It is also detachable which allows you to use in tablet mode conveniently without pushing against keyboard or trackpad.
DJ Johnson What’s your opinion now after 6 months? What is better for university students in terms of note taking in tablet mode and sturdiness ? Thanks in advance
Hi Shannon. I am thinking of buying the latest XPS 13 2 in 1 (7390) of 32 GB RAM, 1 Tb and 4k screen. Do you think it's a good purchase or should I wait a few months? I just want to enjoy office work with great quality. But I have the doubt if it is worth a 4k screen in a size of 13 inches and that does not suppose a real increase in the quality of the screen, and it is better to opt for full HD resolution. What do you recommend me?
I have a Surface Pro 4 but really wanted the most powerful new machine at the best price. Although the Surface keyboard is good, this Dell is so much easier - I don't have to struggle to keep track of the detached keyboard. This dell is super well made and quite elegant. I am a teacher so I always have up multiple browsers with multiple tabs up and this Dell handles it all so easy. Oh and I usually have WORD and EXCEL running at the same time as well. I can take advantage of Multiple Desktops as well - you guess it: at the same time! The best part is that I never have to exit and restart programs. It NEVER slows down! I was a little worried about the two Thunderbolt ports ...no USB?? Ha! False worry! a little adapter and it is fine...and fast! The color screen (edge to edge Microsoft)blows my mind and everyone that sees it is wowed. I teach at an all-Apple district (don't ask) and I laugh when people ask if that's the new Apple Pro .... ha! This is so much better. I am in love with his machine!!! Mine has 32 gig and a 1T hard drive. Love you Dell!!!
Great review! Very helpful as I decide whether to buy an XPS 13 2-in-1 or something else (I'm leaning toward the 2-in-1, especially after this review).
I can’t find one video of people actually using this laptop....can I PLEASE SEE IT RUNNING PHOTOSHOP.... PEOPLE DRAWING OR PHOTO EDITING ON IT......PLEASE ANYONE
LOL You are saying exactly what I thought. I'll use this machine for illustration. On 2020, Sep. Ah sry but not a photoshop. I'll tell you if you wants.
just want to say that it was a great review. Probably this laptop is closer to the use-cases that you were thinking of with the Pixelbook Go for video editing, the stylus support and also gaming. Nice to see thunderbolt support which should allow eGPU functionality, although I think it depends on how many lanes are made available. This laptop is at a much higher price price point although it seems like Dell didn't skimp out with the premium features. It would be nice to see how compatible the laptop is with a linux distribution, although if I had the moola to afford the laptop, I probably would just try hacking it to get Linux to work in some way. I, for one, would like to see more tech product reviews in the channel in the future. Nothing against the travel vlogs !
Yeah, I'm definitely leaning more into the tech reviews. Doing vlogs here and there is moreso for my own benefit: to remember my own experiences and to practice editing in different styles. I haven't tried sticking Linux on it but given the Developer edition xps 13 laptop runs Ubuntu out of the box, this one probably would be fine. Might be finnicky in tablet mode.
Not sure if it matters for this review but I appreciate left-handed reviewers and not sure if I noticed that earlier or not... I do appreciate the way you do your reviews😀
i3 uses less power than i7 or i5. I think, for someone who is looking for less performance but longer battery life, it will be something worth considering.
Is there wear case for the back of the xp screen ?? cause i googled it and there wasnt case that hugs the back of the screen like cases for Microsoft surfaces cause it has bezel while dell xp is infinity but still i hope to find wear case that hugs the screen back
Not much. It's pretty clean these days. There's a few Microsoft items in there, Netflix, and tools. I just do a clean reinstall to every machine though.
This is a design defect product, I bought last year, all the rubber strips are peeled due to the heat of CPU. And it’s not under warranty. You will need to pay a whole shell cost to fix and no guarantee for whether it will happen again or not
I'm in the middle of editing a feature length film on it, but all 1080, because it really struggles with 4k. Having said that, in 1080, it's been flawless, and I have well over two hours on my timeline. I have the i7, 16 gig RAM, 256 SSD inside, and I'm using a Glyph Atom 1TB SSD external drive via the thunderbolt port. It's handled everything extremely well, but we'll see what happens once I finish shooting and get to color correcting, etc...... that will be the test. I'm using Davinci Resolve, and the experience has been smooth with no hiccups at all thus far.

What would you suggest xps 2 in 1 or c940 ?
I just ordered both to do my own comparisons and benchmarks. Fingers crossed it's the C940 as it's much cheaper, with dedicated GPU, and 15".

I bought the surface 7 pro i7 10 th gen, been using it since December 2019. very nice

You need to set your recording light to the side so it does not reflect in your glasses ... great info!
I am very limited on space in my studio room. Watch my vlog posting next week.
You seemed not show us how to perform hand writing input on this device.

I'm torn. I hear both this and HP Specr 360 are good options
How much Graphic Cards into this laptop? Wheater its dedicated or integrated? And finaly can we use it for video editing?
This is a pretty old video and I don’t have the specs on hand but you can plug that model number into google and find what you’re looking for :)

Thanks! If using it with my dominant hand effects my ability to do anything I definitely mention it
Why are we still giving i3 options on these things, do people actually pick those up?
Have you asked Dell?
i3 uses less power than i7 or i5. I think, for someone who is looking for less performance but longer battery life, it will be something worth considering.
Great question, though.
Yes, some do. Personally I go for max specs but my use case is very different than that of a user who just needs a machine to check email.
Nice one shannon 🙂😊
Can you use fingerprint scanner or dell pen on developer edition?
Hi, can you tel me if the touchpad has a klick feedback or onley a tab function? thanks
Network card installed?
Do you think Linux or Hackintosh?
Can you open it with only one hand?
Yes
what kind of protective cover can i put on this and still fold the laptop back?
Is there wear case for the back of the xp screen ?? cause i googled it and there wasnt case that hugs the back of the screen like cases for Microsoft surfaces cause it has bezel while dell xp is infinity but still i hope to find wear case that hugs the screen back
How does the dell active pen work with adobe illustrator/photoshop??
What would you consider to be 'Must Have' accessories for this model? (Optical drive, usb hub, etc.)
Accessories? Hmmm... The pen is pretty cool but not required. A USB hub would be very useful
First comment here 😍❤️

@@TascamTascam ok, you've obviously got some personal growth to do, so I'm just gonna remove you from my page. Bye!
hi, how can you turn on the backlight? on the xps 13 7390
Nice job...I just saw this computer at Costco for a 400 off so it’s down to $1200.
That's a good deal. I'd definitely compare against recent sale prices online to see if they match. I never pay full price haha
I seen it too, that's why i am looking it up... i want to get it but need to make sure it is exactly what i want and need for video editing.
When I work at Lightroom it became very hotly and noisy. So the cooling system is not very good. And I use the version with 32Gb RAM.
Can ssd and rem upgrade?

Glasses do that since I tilt my head and sometimes face my lights. I'm limited by budget and space.

Is it a 4k or FHD???

You can't really upgrade, all parts are soldered. You can buy a different machine with it already installed.
