Dear Steve, I would like to express my gratitude to you.. When I came home from the army in the early 2000's I was in a very bad place. A very dark place.. I sat at home most of the time and didnt want anything to do with people. At the time I didnt have cable or satellite tv so I only had a few channels. one of them was PBS and thats where I was introduced to you and your show. At a time when I didnt think I would ever laugh again, I found myself rolling on the floor with how funny you and the others were/are. You brought life back into my world and now, almost 20 years later, I live a pretty normal life. even have my own youtube channel.. You helped make that happen.. You sir, are a class act and I will always be grateful. Im a man, I can change, if I have to, I guess.. LOL God bless.

Everyone was a little bit poor but humor and curiosity and a willing to try something got us real solutions and alternatively a lot of laughs. Therapeutic stuff. I think Steve meant "wrong" as in "out of place and out of time". He's correct, Red Green is very vintage style humor that would fit very well in the '40s and '50s. That's part of the charm and appeal of Red Green.
I think the world needs to remember and live that line today more than ever. We keep dividing ourselves and treat averything like a competition rather than a cooperation.

Steve Smith is my favorite comedian. After I watched him do the weekly Red Green shows, I always felt "entertained"... not guilty, not worried, nor ashamed. I just, for lack of a better term, felt "good". We all need more of his style of humor.

My dad used to watch Red Green in North Carolina. He really loved the show. He'd call me, laughing hysterically, then tell me about it. Thanks for making my dad laugh in the last years of his life.
I never saw Red Green as outdated so much as a parody of life in a small, backwater town. One of my favorite characters was the Animal Control guy who was afraid of every type of animal, and the chemistry between Smith and the guy who played his nephew was hilarious.

I discovered the show in high school in southern australia, and even back then it never fell to the smut filled garbage that was starting to become widespread at the time. One of the sweetest nicest shows ever!

I'm 36 and live in hawaii now but I grew up in the panhandle of Texas where I watched this show religiously. Thank you Steve. You're a legend. I mean if another legend like George Carlin said he likes your material...I mean that's a solid validation right there.
I'm the maintenance guy for a small rural hospital, and Steve is so so right , just last Saturday I made a homemade lock set for our emergency door out of scraps from other locks to keep it working to get through the weekend. It was a Red Green repair for sure. I was able to see him on his final tour in Halifax .
Frankly I think it's much harder to be clean rather than curse and be rude. The man was always striving to make you laugh with some funny observations about life along the way. I wish him the best in what is next, but I can always watch Red Green and laugh.
I love Red Green. I am 71 years old and as long as I am physically able I will watch the series. And, there are so many reruns I expect the show to outlive me. Thank you Steve Smith!
Never have I had a clip that has made me immediately watch it again. Mr. Smith is so brilliant & humble - quite frankly I am at a loss for words. Pay attention: unless God raises up someone of his caliber, this might be the end of an era. We are so degrading as a society, and Mr. Smith lifts us out of the mire & restores our innocence.

I saw his first tour in 2010, I was 15. About halfway through the show, his microphone box was having some issues. He stopped the show and said “hold on I got to fix this”. Right in the middle of the audience, a guy just casually shouts “duct tape!” And the whole crowd irrupt it in laughter and read just has this look of ‘you got me’ on his face. Best memory ever!

Steve Smith/Red Green made me laugh many, many times. I saw Red Green Live in St. Paul, Mn a few years ago.. He made me laugh through the entire performance. That was an evening well spent.
I'm 32 and Red Green gets quoted every damn day in my family house. Mom and Dad raised me on PBS and this show was my and my brothers favorite show. Much love from the states!
Rather ironic considering that Carlin was frequently profane and, late in his career, was very much the smart comic lecturing the audience; two things Steve Green didn't like. I loved Carlin's earlier stuff and saw him live in '76 but he changed. I'm really glad to see Steve still has his wonderful sense of humor and outlook on life.
Had the pleasure of taking in a Red Green show in Fredericton, NB a number of years ago. Even got to "interact" with the man himself as he asked the audience if it knew what the lodge motto was and what it meant. I believe there were two of us that answered. I guess my voice was just a bit louder than the other. After I replied and Red acknowledged that my answer was correct, he paused and then added: You'll notice that answer was given by a woman! In my euphoric state, I didn't have presence of mind to mention that it was my younger brother who actually explained the Latin to me. (Thank you, Sterling!) I think Steve (Red) and his writers/friends provide -- and have provided -- some of the best comedy this country has seen and experienced. And what's more, it's good, clean comedy! Thanks for keeping it clean, Green. (That's very environmental of you!) ~RGFF (Red Green Fan Forever) :-)

My Dad lived to be 100 and was a total Red Green. He even had red hair! His handy man’s helper was baler twine. He kept a bag of it in the trunk of his car and used it on everything. I grew up in the Maritimes, and Steve has provinces full of fans there. Storytellers love their own.

I'm the maintenance guy for a small rural hospital, and Steve is so so right , just last Saturday I made a homemade lock set for our emergency door out of scraps from other locks to keep it working to get through the weekend. It was a Red Green repair for sure. I was able to see him on his final tour in Halifax .
Frankly I think it's much harder to be clean rather than curse and be rude. The man was always striving to make you laugh with some funny observations about life along the way. I wish him the best in what is next, but I can always watch Red Green and laugh.
Exactly. It's easy to Swear and spew anger. His clean humour is needed.
Being raised rural and still living semi rural I really enjoyed this show. It is funny and clean.

I love Red Green. I am 71 years old and as long as I am physically able I will watch the series. And, there are so many reruns I expect the show to outlive me. Thank you Steve Smith!

Watching Red Green is like a trip home. It just feels good. Simple, like childhood.
Never have I had a clip that has made me immediately watch it again. Mr. Smith is so brilliant & humble - quite frankly I am at a loss for words. Pay attention: unless God raises up someone of his caliber, this might be the end of an era. We are so degrading as a society, and Mr. Smith lifts us out of the mire & restores our innocence.
"Retire to something, not from something" is very true. If you don't have something to do in your retirement you will literally bore yourself to death.

Grew up in northern Michigan not to far from the border. Absolutely loved watching The Red Green Show.
I saw his first tour in 2010, I was 15. About halfway through the show, his microphone box was having some issues. He stopped the show and said “hold on I got to fix this”. Right in the middle of the audience, a guy just casually shouts “duct tape!” And the whole crowd irrupt it in laughter and read just has this look of ‘you got me’ on his face. Best memory ever!

Hey Steve, I don't know if you'll ever see this but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the words of advice (comedic or not) you've helped me get through more than you'll ever know! I'm no longer at the mercy of a plumber, electrician, mechanic or Undertaker. I can do it all myself!

One of my favorite show was when he used an electric hand mixer to turn a manual window crank on a van into an electric window opener. Thank you, Steve, for making us laugh.

You cannot use duct tape without thinking of Red Green.
Expanded my viewpoint on Duct Tape uses beyond HVAC. I'll also give R-G credit for helping to usher in a whole new duct tape crafting and upholstery movement as well.
Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, may they at least find you handy.
I have a roll of red and a roll of green duct tape that was a feat in itself to find those.
Or MacGyver...he did plenty with duct tape...

My Dad also had a roll of duct tape at all times, even using it to hold old shoes together, mend a cut, upholstery repair, reinforce almost anything.
My Dad died in December of 2013. Before then we had a lot of laugh's watching on Saturday night. May God bless you.

Steve Smith/Red Green made me laugh many, many times. I saw Red Green Live in St. Paul, Mn a few years ago.. He made me laugh through the entire performance. That was an evening well spent.
I felt so lucky that I got to see a live taping many moons ago. I have had the chance to show the show to my godchildren and they still love it.
It was the act of being silly and the carefully worded dialogue that made it funny.
Wish I could see him at his farewell tour.
I'm 32 and Red Green gets quoted every damn day in my family house. Mom and Dad raised me on PBS and this show was my and my brothers favorite show. Much love from the states!

makes sense... they're both old.
Rather ironic considering that Carlin was frequently profane and, late in his career, was very much the smart comic lecturing the audience; two things Steve Green didn't like. I loved Carlin's earlier stuff and saw him live in '76 but he changed. I'm really glad to see Steve still has his wonderful sense of humor and outlook on life.
Had the pleasure of taking in a Red Green show in Fredericton, NB a number of years ago. Even got to "interact" with the man himself as he asked the audience if it knew what the lodge motto was and what it meant. I believe there were two of us that answered. I guess my voice was just a bit louder than the other. After I replied and Red acknowledged that my answer was correct, he paused and then added: You'll notice that answer was given by a woman! In my euphoric state, I didn't have presence of mind to mention that it was my younger brother who actually explained the Latin to me. (Thank you, Sterling!)
I think Steve (Red) and his writers/friends provide -- and have provided -- some of the best comedy this country has seen and experienced. And what's more, it's good, clean comedy! Thanks for keeping it clean, Green. (That's very environmental of you!) ~RGFF (Red Green Fan Forever)

That's saying something.
Kinda depends on how long it was between you being 9 and meeting him. I saw the live show last year, it was great, didn't get to meet him though.

We loved the show. It was part of our Saturday night routine. Miss it greatly.
My Dad lived to be 100 and was a total Red Green. He even had red hair! His handy man’s helper was baler twine. He kept a bag of it in the trunk of his car and used it on everything. I grew up in the Maritimes, and Steve has provinces full of fans there. Storytellers love their own.
Your Dad lived in a time when being resourceful was necessary. We can all learn a lot from people like him.
My Dad pulled a RG handyman fix: Took an old cigar box, nailed it to the wall in the garage, put a tack on the lid to open it and used it as a cabinet.
