You don't play as a king, you are just a local Lord of a new village. You have to respond to the King's requests for goods/soldiers (your feudal overlord) throughout the game.
It seems like cities get more organized the further west you go in the US. Obviously bc they were settled later. New England cities just built on whatever random native footpaths were already there.

Hey splatt, don't know if you are still interested in this game or not but here is a tip nonetheless when making residential zones keep an eye out for the ground colour they won't build houses in red zones(far from the market, water source, too close to industry). It's basically a desirability index red means bad and green means good, that's why they didn't build houses in the first residential area. And there is a job list that helps you assign jobs much easier without clicking on every individual villager, it's on the bottom left if I remember correctly

It's an interesting take that "the more you go out to the edge of european cities, the better the planning became", but that's a false perspective. The centers were built with very forward thinking planning, but they were planning in a different age, with different needs. The straight lines aren't really necessary when you don't have cars and you don't have a city so large that easy navigation in unkown parts becomes premium; the city is small enough to be completely known. Easy access to markets, easy to defend, not having fires completely burn down the entire city, those are some of the things that were important. Not making it easy for trucks and cars to drive through.
Urban planner here: You've gotta include older Mesoamerican cities, Egyptian cities, Chinese cities, Carthaginian, etc. into your assessment: Grids were always preferred by planners. So city planning wasn't at all important during feudal times or in small fiefdoms in europe, it would only become important as big centers of trade were established. Small cities in feudal europe grew organically precisely the way you describe them, but they weren't planned at all, that's your false perspective.

@@DarrenMalin there is no universal solution for anything; that's why the discipline exists: it always depends on the use, the density, terrain, the type of population, what you want to accomplish, etc. Even if it is only aesthetics what you care about: well proportion matters; weird curved lines that make no sense are very ugly, a perfect grid is boring and not efficient as it gets bigger; radial designs leave unusable triangle corners, etc. A good urban designer incorporates everything to suit the needs of a particular project.
Played this a few days ago with their new update, the military portion of the game is improved but still no actual combat, which is kinda wierd since they already have a military aspect of the game complete with attack animations.

Canadians and Americans and Brits and Kangaroo riders etc. will have their own common ways of pronouncing words that may conflict with each other. Like the world Advertisement. Americans usually say ADD-VUR-TIZE-MENT, whereas some Canucks may say ADDVURTIZZ-MINT

According to askagamedev, developers are always open to listening to problems that players have with the game, but it is mostly pointless to try and provide solutions as a player because you have no idea how the game works under the hood. Something that you think is simple and intuitive might not be possible in the engine, or might break something else seemingly unrelated. When giving feedback, focus on describing the problem you have and why it's a problem, let the developer come up with a solution.

Anyone here now anything? is it a housing bug? I had happiness around 80-90 and 27 people. yet the 7 people wont build house at all. I expanded 4 times and putted decorations and so on... But it doesnt help. So i tried to delete all the house, and now 20 of 27 people is homeless lol. They wont build house at all..
The UI is how it is because it's all modular. I didn't really mention it in the video but it's minimal like that because you can drag things around wherever you want them.
There is so many of these type of games now and they all look good but I feel so many will fail due to this. I can't and won't play them all and I'm sure the best of the bunch will be sleeper and fail due to lack of income!!
Id like to see more flora and fauna like wild animals, waterfalls and flowers etc. Would make this more natural.

i wish there was an option to build roads as well as the automatic paths. maybe build a main road then have the villagers paths branching off of that.
