    I've understood the benefits of visualization for years, but I've only recently taken it seriously. Mental contrasting makes a lot of sense. Thank you, Brian.

I am already seeing how implementing these ideas is speeding up my personal growth. Thank you so much!

    I feel the need to revisit this equation often. I've definitely been working on compartmentalizing my goals into smaller chunks. I'm in school, and by setting my due date much earlier than the actual due date I've increased my school productivity a lot.
    I'm still working on impulsiveness, but I've found that by removing the little distractions like email, texts, snacking, and unnecessary browser tabs, I save my limited willpower. then, on days like this recent Wednesday when I'm sorely tempted to just watch TV for an hour or two, I have the willpower stored up to say no and push onward in homework.

    I know it's so simple and straightforward that you could condense all the life-changing tips in just 13 minutes... But how do you get yourself to implement that in your life, and do it consistently? That's the biggest challenge for me.

  • @itorres008
    @itorres008 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks. Very helpful. I watched it a few times and took notes. I had a little problem with grasping the "expectancy" term or part. It seemed to me like the state of being nervously attentive to what would happen. As I listened and reviewed, I think "Expectation of Success" conveyed the concept more clearly to me. The expectation of success is more or less the confidence you have that you'll achieve the goal or complete the task. There is a subtle difference between "expectancy" (a state of expectation) and "expectation" which is something which is anticipated or likely to happen. Anyway, thanks again.

    Brian, thanks for this video, it was awesome. I just started working on some of the few distractions left in my life. Now if Facebook would just let me turn off "like" notifications. :) I love the "block out time" idea. The equation is brilliant. And now I don't have to read the book which is what I love best about your videos. Keep up the good work.

    Case study:
    Rob recently graduated from medical school. he's not looking forward to internship or residency for he realized he hates medicine and want nothing to do with health care anymore. He felt like he wasted his life. Endless hours into something he now want to get away from. Basically unemployable outside health care and can't practice because he don't have residency. He's consumed with regrets about past decisions and he cannot find a way to get out of his situations. He felt like its too late to start again. So many friends already have their lives going. He's stuck. For 22 years, he got up early every day to sit in a classroom and now finds himself unrecognizable to himself. He hates looking at himself in the mirror. People outside medicine look at his life as if he is some sort of monster for not wanting to be a doctor now. He has no debt, but no money either. He wants to go back in time and choose differently about his life. Maybe starting a family or do something of interest without regret.
    Question:
    How to live a good life without motivation?
    How do i live a good life with a broken heart and emotional drain?
    Causes: losing family. losing love. losing energy and health.
    How to live a good life without passion or without knowing what i'm interested?
    How to live a good life being single without romantic love?
    How to live a good life without happiness at work?
    How to live a good life without meaning?
    How to live a inspiring life?
    How to overcome shyness of speaking to people or stage fright?
    What ideas can you give to Rob at this point in life?

    I want to reflect on that LoA/ideal future issue: earlier today I thought that focusing on my ideal visions to my life would create a sense of immense contrast between my current self and my ideal self (because I keep assuming that to attain those visions - changing my current reality - I need to be different). And so, that can be driving me to procrastinate in the sense that it's likely for my current self often take the decision to postpone the actions needed to be taken to the future - to that evolved future self (adding to the present the perfectionism and the fear of not meeting expectations and what this bring). A key point helping me with this would be Identification. I mean, become more identified with my ideal-self and a stronger sense of self-continuity, right?
    Anyway, I agree with the Mental Contrasting notion. I think I know intellectually what to do and implement in myself, but emotionally... well I'm getting there

    • @HeroicBrian
      @HeroicBrian  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gonçalo Marques Hi Goncalo: I literally JUST interviewed Piers and we talked about this exact issue. He described pure visualization as a sort of motivational pornography. It isn't substantive and is a very poor substitute for real motivation. See your ideal outcome. See your current reality. Acknowledge the challenges you'll face. See how you'll deal with them. Create a necessity to act and go out and do what needs to get done. I'm excited to share more soon!
