I have the older 64 unit and its been a great unit. Mainly used on mountains walks in all weathers. Only takes a few mins to program and is great to review recorded track when I get home. I would buy a newer Garmin unit if my current unit went faulty. Love the reviews
Great explanation of the GPS unit on a walk. I also really enjoyed the part where you went into detail about what is in your pack. Always interesting to see what others carry on their walks. Thanks for the content that you put out.
Simply brilliant job by Jon! Wonderful video! Thank you Jon! I'm located in Arizona USA, and I love to just sit back and enjoy your walk and talks! 🙂 Btw, I wasn't familiar with the phrase "bits and bobs" so I had to google it. I think it's similar to "odds and ends" that we say here in the USA to describe miscellaneous stuff. I like british phrases!
Excellent tips, John, as usual. I learned from your talks.I understand there is no track-back option on the 65 (or the 66). Thank you and keep up the good work.
You can do a tack back on both the units you mention. As all the walk and talk are my actual walks (at weekends) they are true scenarios. To date I have only had to do one trackback whilst recording a walk and talk, which was with the 66i just over a year ago.
@@petescull371 Please don't take this the wrong way, but the 'walk and talk' series are to show you what a GPS does, not how you do it. Great video and that walk looks amazing. I'm trying to figure out how you got the compass to overlay the map or track. I've googled it but can't see an option to do this. Thanks, Denis
Great video, great seeing 65s material the unit is fantastic. Well happy with mine I got from you. What do you have your track log recording set as? I've recently moved mine from normal to most often.
Loved this walk, I will definitely make getting up to the Northumberland area a must this year, as it looks stunning. When walking routes on my 66s, I would like to have the option to hide the route in order to look at features below the route, as I find the route sometimes clutters the display. Is this possible?
Looking for a new GPS Handheld device for my ATV. I currently use the Magellan eXplorist 500. I use it strictly to track where i am going and to mark fishing / hunting locations, so i can turn around and follow the same route back out if i so choose. Silly question, but does this 65s do the same or do i need to plan my route every time?
@@ukgpstraining in your personal opinion as I see you use both of them which would you say is the better unit to buy out of the two ? Which do you prefer ? Do you still use the 65s or is it hugely dated and at the end of its supported Garmin life?

This is another great video, I really enjoyed it. I have a question for you, I've been trying out your free planning software and I love it. When I put it in the GPX folder it behaves exactly like in your video. However, if I plan a route on the OS website or app, download the GPX route and put it the GPX folder, it adds each waypoint in my waypoint folder on the GPSMap66i as well - why? Looking at the map on the unit, with your software each waypoint looks like a pin, with the OS software each waypoint is a flag. Does that make sense? I don't understand it. Thank you, Mark
Please accept my apologies, but I have no expertise on the OS software you refer to. I would ask OS directlky, surely they support there software, especially as you are paying for it.
@@ukgpstraining Thanks for the response, I’ve been playing with some other software and it uses pins like yours so obviously a problem / issue with the OS map software. I’ve just completed a walk today using yours and had no issues at all. I’ve had a GPSMap 62 and now a 66 for 5 or 6 years and I feel I’ve just got to grips with it properly after watching your brilliant videos etc. Thank you.

@@ukgpstraining thanks for the advice - I'l look up the 66i walk and hopefully learn a little bit more for my 66sr

Denis, this may help you, it is not the same unit but the principle is the same - th-cam.com/video/PSQIjbO3qDs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fC1l8QaSUzZB5xdN
Am sure you had them to hand but no mention of a compass and mobile phone (plus batt pack for it) ?
Well spotted. Mobile phone in my pocket (as i use it for the scenic shots when filming), but no power bank and compass (which I really should have).

Many thanks for your kind words, sadly there is no way you can 'hide' the route you are following or even change the colour.

Yes, you can do a 'trackback' with a GPSMAP65s. I hope this helps.
Which is the most accurate the 65s or 67? They both seem to have multi GNSS and Multi Band?
As you rightly say, they both have exactly the same technology in so they both will be identical.
I hope this helps.

Sadly not at this moment in time, does anybody know of a similar route planning software for the US?
