Why do the English not toast their bread for BLT and Club Sandwiches? BLT - thin or medium sliced bacon , what ever lettuce you prefer, tomato, Mayo on both slices of toast , PLEASE TOAST YOUR BREAD !!!! lol
Toasted bread, lots of mayo on each slice of bread, American bacon, crispy. Some people put salt and / or pepper on the tomato slices. It's typically eaten as lunch, but really can be eaten any time of the day.
US bacon is more fatty and thinner strips. We cook ours until crispy, slightly toast the bread, spread lots of mayo on both sides of the bread, then add either iceburg or romaine lettuce leaves, ripe tomatoes with some salt and pepper. It's a quick and easy meal that the entire family loves. Your mom is just so sweet! What a blessing she is for all!
UK bacon is cut from the loin. American bacon is thinly sliced pork belly. Smoked with hickory or apple wood. Usually fried crisp. In the US your bacon would be called Canadian bacon. Still a delicious sandwich, but you have to try it with US style bacon, if you can find it or just smoked pork belly, and cut your own. Its also more of a lunch thing, than breakfast. Here, that would be a ham sandwich. Lol

That’s what I came here to say 😄 A nice layer of butter or mayo keeps the bread from getting soggy (or lightly butter one piece of toast and put mayo on the other one).
Like many others have said, iceburg lettuce is the traditional lettuce but I prefer the spring mix like you used. Add avocado for something extra, lightly toast the bread, no butter just mayo. Yum!

Egg and becon sandwiches are also very good. (Egg, becon, mayo, some iceberg lettuce, and a slice of onion, is how I like them). Vine ripe tomatoes straight from the garden is the ultimate BLT.
as the other posters said, american bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, and i salt and pepper my tomatoes. i have had toasted bread and had it non-toasted.
The bread should be toasted. I love BLT'S. Toasted bread, mayo, crispy bacon, Iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. It's usually a treat. Evey now and then, will have one for lunch.
🥰🥰 Mmmmmmmm yummy Ms. Vicki. I am the mother of 4 grown children and 4 beautiful grandchildren and we all love a great blt as stated with toasted bread then add the mayo your bread will not be soggy. And yes cook your bacon to a crisp. My family loves it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great Job glad you enjoyed it Ms. Vicki. You're always thanking us, thank you. You're absolutely amazing. Keep cooking and sharing. And hello James, Millie and Archie. ❤❤
"Salad cream" isn't a thing in the US, although I suspect "Miracle Whip" (a sort of sweetened mayonnaise) is close. BLT is typically mayo, fresh tomato slices, streaky rashers, and iceberg lettuce on toasted white bread. Triangles are traditional. Despite claims elsewhere in the comments, many of us Americans prefer our bacon still chewy, not crumbly crisp.
You really missed it, but I'm glad you liked it. The bread should be toasted, that doesn't look like American bacon, and we use Iceberg lettuce. The Mayo goes on first then stack your lettuce and fresh tomato, preferably home grown, salt and pepper to taste and a couple strips of bacon. Eat and enjoy. Maybe you don't have access to American bacon but it's a must to a true BLT.
You need to TOAST your bread! This is a substantially important step in the BLT! Your bacon must be crispy; trim off the fat! Be sure to blot the grease from the bacon with a paper towel before placing it on your toast. The mayo needs to go on both sides of the toasted bread. Yes, to the pepper. I personally like black pepper on my BLT as well. Also, sometimes, I enjoy adding a fried egg to my BLT, which technically makes it a BLTE.
Everyone knows very time you cut a sandwich in half the flavor doubles. LOL I think you nailed the essence of the BLT. Simple, easy, quick. Most important, delicious.
I only have BLT's in the summer when my heirloom garden tomatoes are ripe (preferably Cherokee Purple or Black Beauty tomato). Toasted white bread, mayo, American crispy bacon, iceberg lettuce, and avocado (BLTA). Served with air fryer French Fries and an ice cold coke. Such a summer treat!
Toast the bread (sourdough, white, wheat or potato) and use iceberg lettuce also experiment with different cooking methods of the bacon (with or w/o water and crispiness) if you toast it put the mayonnaise on the bread then add the bacon!
James, you need to take a bite, not a nibble. A man sized bite will get the entirety of the flavors. Also, next time ask mum to toast the bread please.
BLTs in the U.S. would be a 3 thick sandwich with lots of bacon, tomato, and lettuce always on toasted bread unless you request otherwise. Edit: The sell pepper bacon in the U.S. so yeah pepper is an acceptable addition.
As a dinner option, our mother would make a egg, bacon and tomato sandwich. Toasted bread, tomato slices, bacon and scrambled egg [1 per sandwich - folded to fit in the sandwich] plus butter and pepper. Yummy ….
Thank you Vicky! It is -12 C and very windy outside, but I am here happily enjoying my hot coffee and watching you cook another American classic. Your mom is great James! Cheers!
Chef's tip: Rather than oil in the pan but a thin layer of tap water in with the bacon. The water will boil off and draw out the fat content from the bacon and render the bacon crisper than when cooked normally. Secondly, you can make it a BLTAC - by adding cheese slices and some sliced avocado. It adds some richness to the bacon/tomato. But great first outing with it. Sourdough works best IMHO. Toasted is even better. If you add sliced chicken or ham/turkey then you've started to migrate to a full on CLUB sandwich - usually it's a three bread sandwich (one top & bottom and one in the middle). Just some expansion options on the original outing.
Looks like you were using what we would call Canadian bacon. You need American bacon which is strips and it is browned until it is crunchy and crisp. Toasted bread, iceberg lettuce, mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. Pepper can be added too.
That is a British BLT - American is toasted bread, not rocket (Arugula is too strong), romaine lettuce, American smoked bacon in strips, beef eater tomatoes & mayo.
Mum's creation looks delicious. You have the basic recipe correct. Some people prefer iceberg or romaine lettuce, some prefer the mayonnaise to be the top layer, some prefer the lettuce on top. Some like the bread to be toasted. People switch it around.
This is a very sweet lady. I appreciate her making us these videos. Thank you. Now, here in my home (Oregon, United States ) We toast the bread add a totally different kind of looking bacon…yours looks like a piece of what I call ham? Maybe? 🤔 We put mayonnaise on both sides of the bread. We add a much bigger leafy, kind of lettuce.(not that it makes a difference I actually prefer eating the kind of lettuce you are using. I just never considered using it. ) and of course, the tomatoes. Summertime, tomatoes, picked right out of the garden are the best! We make this quite a bit in my house for dinner served with a side of tater tots. My son likes to add avocado to his BLT… I guess that would make it a BLTA.😂 any regards…I love seeing how other people all over make their takes on similar recipes. This was a fun vid to watch.
Nicely done, Victoria! 😎👍 Such a classic sandwich. For many years, this was my mother's favorite sandwich. When I first made her a Reuben sandwich, the BLT dropped to #2 but she still makes them often. #2 is still a good spot.
Toast the bread. And then mayo can go on the toasted bread and create a soft inside and crunchy outside. I personally don't like tomato, so I don't eat BLTs. So instead I just make a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. haha.
close for me, when i build a sammich each item get a complete layer in the sammich i always put mayo on bread crust to crust(American extremism), tomato goes on the mayo with salt and pepper(some kind of a chemical reaction with the acid of the tomato and the salt and mayo tastes almost sweet)you can put the other bread with mayo slice on here for a tomato sammich, or you can add lettuce, bacon, etc. also cucumber slices make a good sammich by themselves as well. nice try Vicki
"I'm having all of this" is why Americans spread the mayo on the toast. A BLT gets eaten in a hurry, intentionally or not. Its so good! Vicky, that was a very good first try for a BLT. Glad you enjoyed it. Add avocado for extra goodness. Thanks for trying American food you're doing a great job at it.

It was just Pure Joy To Me To Watch You!!! Just a suggestion is Add More Bacon To Your Sandwich next time and try it with your bacon fried just a little bit crisper. Also yes Salt right on top of your tomatos would be great on it along with your pepper. Because you're using fresh tomatos and lettuce, a little salt will wake up the flavor of the tomatos. Ive never considered putting the mayo right on top of the tomatos like you did? In the US most of us put the mayo on 1 or both sides of the bread itself. But you kind of did a game changer in my mind with the mayo squeezed right on top of your veggies. Anyway DO NOT EVER CHANGE HOW YOU ARE IN YOUR VIDEOS!!! I love your personality. I think eventually someone in television in the UK will get wind of Vicky and we can say we knew her before she became famous. That’s a run on sentence
Toasting the bread gives it a different flavor and texture, but non-toasted is good too. I tend to eat it without toasting. We have it every few months for dinner.
Toasted bread with mayo on the bread and iceberg lettuce, eaten for lunch or dinner.
I didn’t wanna leave out that Mom‘s got beautiful blue eyes. She dresses wonderful and has a great kitchen. I’m really happy to watch somebody that’s so happy on television. I look forward to watching some more videos. Best wishes to all!
One should really try it how it was originally intended before doing a variation. 1:47 I don’t know what this is a pork chop with some spring greens?
Mayo, tomato, light salt and black pepper on the tomato. Enjoy 😊
Crispy bacon have patience , lettuce, fresh soft bread, wheat, sourdough, white, french, muffin, croissant
The only thing better than a BLT, is a BLAT: Bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato. Lightly Toast the bread, add mayo.
I use way too much mayo, and salt and pepper the tomatoes. I like the mayo in the middle trick!
I prefer miracle whip. It's tangier😋👍
The more mayo the better. I put it on both slices of toast.
So glad you enjoyed this. Vickie, you are a delight to watch!
It should be made with buttered toast and the bacon should be crispy.
Also, sometimes, I enjoy adding a fried egg to my BLT, which technically makes it a BLTE.
no, love the fat
Everyone knows very time you cut a sandwich in half the flavor doubles. LOL I think you nailed the essence of the BLT. Simple, easy, quick. Most important, delicious.
I only have BLT's in the summer when my heirloom garden tomatoes are ripe (preferably Cherokee Purple or Black Beauty tomato). Toasted white bread, mayo, American crispy bacon, iceberg lettuce, and avocado (BLTA). Served with air fryer French Fries and an ice cold coke. Such a summer treat!
That sounds delicious!
Sounds yum!
Yes avocado takes it to another level.
It's good with green zebra tomato too.
Homegrown tomatoes are a must.
Toast the bread (sourdough, white, wheat or potato) and use iceberg lettuce also experiment with different cooking methods of the bacon (with or w/o water and crispiness) if you toast it put the mayonnaise on the bread then add the bacon!
American bacon cooked slightly crispy and lightly toast the bread.
After Thanksgiving we make "Turkey towers" beefsteak rye bread, turkey, lettuce, swiss cheese, tomatoes and 1,000 island dressing.
James, you need to take a bite, not a nibble. A man sized bite will get the entirety of the flavors. Also, next time ask mum to toast the bread please.
I just absolutely adore Ms Vicky aka James' Mom
BLTs in the U.S. would be a 3 thick sandwich with lots of bacon, tomato, and lettuce always on toasted bread unless you request otherwise.
Edit: The sell pepper bacon in the U.S. so yeah pepper is an acceptable addition.
LOVE BLTs. Try toasting the bread.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, British mum is so sweet!
As a dinner option, our mother would make a egg, bacon and tomato sandwich. Toasted bread, tomato slices, bacon and scrambled egg [1 per sandwich - folded to fit in the sandwich] plus butter and pepper. Yummy ….
I haven’t had one is so long, thanks for reminding me.They are great.Your mom will do a great job, after the stuff she has already tackled.
A BLT with tomato basil soup on a cold winters night.YUM! Looks good.
Cheese and especially avocado = "posh" or, as some Brits might say, "bougie".
Your mom is officially an American treasure ❤️. You were brilliant by adding her in to the mix.
Looks like you were using what we would call Canadian bacon. You need American bacon which is strips and it is browned until it is crunchy and crisp. Toasted bread, iceberg lettuce, mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. Pepper can be added too.
That is not Canadian bacon 😊
Love these videos 😍. I was watching James and Millie for a long time. The addition of Vicky is a joy! Much love to you from California ❤❤❤❤
That is a British BLT - American is toasted bread, not rocket (Arugula is too strong), romaine lettuce, American smoked bacon in strips, beef eater tomatoes & mayo.
I love that Mrs Vicky isn't shy about eating.
Mom is always dainty and charming in your videos...Great video Fam.
Toast the bread then apply the mayonnaise
Beautiful job, Vicky! 🥰👍
So instead I just make a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. haha.
Toast the bread..and put DUKE'S mayo on both slices of bread...lite pepper..maybe some salt on the tomato 🍅
AMEN!! Dukes! 😎 ✌🏻
I loved the back bacon in the full English breakfast, but BLT requires crisp American bacon. Totally different. We need a food exchange system!
BLT the bread is usally lightly Toasted Yes Pepper and lightly salted if you want BLT And Tomato Soup Perfect on a rainy day
close for me, when i build a sammich each item get a complete layer in the sammich i always put mayo on bread crust to crust(American extremism), tomato goes on the mayo with salt and pepper(some kind of a chemical reaction with the acid of the tomato and the salt and mayo tastes almost sweet)you can put the other bread with mayo slice on here for a tomato sammich, or you can add lettuce, bacon, etc. also cucumber slices make a good sammich by themselves as well. nice try Vicki
couple suggestions. toast the bread and use iceburg lettuce also salt and pepper
I order a BLT quite a lot at restaurants because I think you can't mess up a BLT. Now I'm not so sure.
toasted bread and crispy bacon make it much better
Your bacon is so different than ours! But I must say it looks amazing!
That's why I eat 2 BLTs! You easy one fast and savor the 2nd one. So so good.
A little different but still probably great.
Mom is a very kind soul love watching the videos and kudos to you sweetie you are doing a great job at cooking our comfort foods from America
Oh My Goodness! I'm mostly a silent watcher. But I just wanted to hop on here to say.... What a Breath Of Fresh Air You Are Mama of James!! I swear I could watch you all day long ! You are just precious!! And to think that most of us as Americans see this sandwich as a Simple BLT but that to you on the Other Side Of The Pond you haven't heard of and NEVER EVEN TRIED?? Your cute as a daisy and definitely made my heart smile!!
