Hi Troy. Finding the value of f(x) when x = 2 also means finding the corresponding value of y when x = 2. The function notation, f(x), is the same as "y". f(x) = -2x is also y = -2x. When x = 2, you can solve for y by simple substitution. Replace the x with its given value. Therefore, y = -2(2) = -4. By function notation, the y on the left side can be written as f(2). f(2) only denotes that x is being replaced by 2. f(x) = -2x f(2) = -2(2) f(2) = -4 (ANSWER)
One of the many ways to DETERMINE the EQUATION of the boundary line is using the SLOPE-INTERCEPT form (y = mx + b). The value of b is very easy to spot. It's where the boundary line CROSSES the y-axis. To find the value of m, locate any 2 points on the boundary line that are easy as possible to work with( those that have integer coordinates), then use the RISE OVER RUN formula.
The NEXT step when you've already determined the equation of the boundary line is to NOTE whether it is DOTTED or SOLID. If the graphed boundary line is DOTTED, then the inequality sign is either LESS THAN or GREATER THAN. If the graphed boundary line is SOLID, the inequality sign is either "LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO" or "GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO". In other words, there is an EQUAL component to the inequality sign if the boundary line is SOLID.
Another way to explain how did I come up with x = -4: y = x + 4 Substitute y = 0. 0 = x + 4 Transpose x to the left. -x = 4 Divide both sides by -1. -x/-1 = 4/-1 x = -4

Ang pwedeng mag-iba-iba ay ang method sa paggraph ng BOUNDARY LINE. 1.by finding 2 points (assuming any 2 values of x) 2.by rewriting the related equation into SLOPE-INTERCEPT (y = mx + b) form, then using the slope and y-intercept to derive 2 points needed in graphing. 3)by using x-intercept and y-intercept.
I have used the 3RD METHOD. You can choose ANY of the 3 METHODS. It doesn't matter which method you choose as long as you're able to graph the boundary line correctly.

Mam how can I find the value of f(x) = - 2x,when x is 2
Hi Troy.
Finding the value of f(x) when x = 2 also means finding the corresponding value of y when x = 2.
The function notation, f(x), is the same as "y".
f(x) = -2x
is also
y = -2x.
When x = 2, you can solve for y by simple substitution. Replace the x with its given value.
Therefore,
y = -2(2) = -4.
By function notation, the y on the left side can be written as
f(2).
f(2) only denotes that x is being replaced by 2.
f(x) = -2x
f(2) = -2(2)
f(2) = -4 (ANSWER)

What about graph is the given, how to get the solution?
Do you mean "When graph is given, how do you find the INEQUALITY?"
When GRAPH is given and you are required to find the INEQUALITY, the 1ST step is to determine the EQUATION of the BOUNDARY LINE.
After finding m and b, plug the values into y = mx + b.
The result is the EQUATION of the BOUNDARY LINE.
In other words, there is an EQUAL component to the inequality sign if the boundary line is SOLID.
question po, how did you get the negative 4 at the y intercept? I kinda lost it there po eh hehe, did you perhaps use additive inverse to get that?
From y = x + 4,
Set y = 0 when solving for the x-intercept.
0 = x + 4
0 - 4 = x + 4 - 4
-4 = x
Another way to explain how did I come up with x = -4:
y = x + 4
Substitute y = 0.
0 = x + 4
Transpose x to the left.
-x = 4
Divide both sides by -1.
-x/-1 = 4/-1
x = -4
