Plaits was my first module. I ended up finding a second one for dirt cheap and loved both of them dearly. This update felt like Christmas coming early for me.
Like several others, I also read about the update and watched a video or two. It seemed cool but I wasn't inspired to go through the update process at the time and honestly forgot about it. Thank goodness I found this video! What a great demonstration of how awesome this update actually is. To the laptop!
I'm not big on modular stuff and with content of yours like these I'm always really astonished by their capabilities it's amazing! I'd like to get really into them one day. That wave editor website seems so fun to just mess around with haha! (The protogen joke caught me off guard lmao)
It's "platts" not "plates" (or "plahts"), you don't "plate" your hair, you "platt" it. At the very least in New Zealand this is a word we actually use so we don't have to guess how to freakin' say it! :) Also if it helps Émilie herself pronounces it "platts". Ranting out of the way, great video, great demo of the new sounds and the editor! I now have that strong, new module desire but I have the module already! I just have to update the firmware! 🎉 This hasn't stopped me entering the competition for a second one though! 😂
Weirdly enough, I wasn’t particularly fussed when I read about the new firmware bar the string machine mode. Oh, how wrong I was!!! Can see so many uses for the new modes in the music I make. So glad I grabbed a second one a couple of months ago now. Thanks for opening my eyes, and extra bonus points for cute dog content!!
Always love your videos, thank you for putting out quality content! You have a great way of teaching and your music actually sounds good unlike so many music TH-camrs especially modular. Thank you!
Awesome! your modular videos make me want to sell my gear and dive deep into modular world, I have few modules already but not yet on the other side, scary world out there...
A Plaits clone was my first module and is still an integral part of my system. With the new firmware, even 2 wouldn't be enough! I've already gotten a lot of use out of the new firmware, especially the arpeggiator. Huge fan of your channel and your work!
plait /plāt,plat/ noun a single length of hair or other flexible material made up of three or more interlaced strands; a braid. verb form (hair or other material) into a plait or plaits. "her hair had been plaited and coiled at the back of her head" - plaits, hats, bats
please record a full video of how you play with a smooth start with the continuation of the dance beat. in other words, please record a short or long music video.
Whuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaatttttt!!!!!????😮😱🫣🥳🔥✨🙏 Can i use Plaits standalone with a midi Controller or do i need other components? I need one, NOW, the sounds, the frequencies, the harmonics, wow!❤ Thank you so much for this demo man! From a fellow brother in buttons
This is awesome. Your way of approaching this is inspirational and gets into some serious Hotline Miami vibes. The Unperson videos on plaits, recently, were something that made me go back to this module,. Now im looking at buying a second one after this video.
It’s “plats” the same as plaid is pronounced “plad”. Plus there’s a picture on the module of interlocked (plaited) lines. Also it’s updated braids so the hair / rope naming convention would make sense.
Now that you have discovered the internet can help you learn how to pronounce words ask it about “timbre.” 🤠 Oh, you did! Thanks for the great synth content, and Merry Christmas!
Plaits pronounced ‘platts’. It’s not complicated… I cheated a bit- I have an MI Plaits, but I bought an ALA Knit this week and have updated them both. I can now run both slightly detuned, and- wow! You forgot to mention the ‘fixed tuning’ function. Hold the right button, turn the harmonics knob fully cw, and the lights flash alternately. The frequency knob then plays octaves of C- which if you’ve not got a tuner in the rack (I don’t) is way cool.
MI got me into synths… it started with a DIY build Shruthi, then I built most of the hardware range and the rest is a room full of gear history. Never got into Eurorack but it’s only a matter of time, money and divorce. As others have said, brother Jeremy: “platts”, not “plates”. Those are part of a reverb and things you eat off. 😂
Hahaha, I did the same thing and grabbed another 2 😂 Great video, super informative and helpful. What are you using for drums/percussion in this video?
Ive had a Beehive Plaits for a few years now but just stumbled onto this! Do you know if I'm able to update my clone module in the same way that you're doing here? Thanks!
Why is channel 2's wave fully maxed out and clipping like that? Is it that channel set to a different scale / voltage range? The number at the bottom looks the same but maybe I'm just blind.
Question about the editor: If I want to replace just a FEW sounds of a bank, does it just keep the stock ones that Emilie provided? If not, is there a place to get the .sysx files of the individual stock sounds? Looking forward to some 6OP FM sounds on my plaits!
1) This is awesome. The firmware via audio file thing alone fascinates the hell out of me, let alone all the features available on one unit. 2) Completely unrelated, but my Blue desk mounted boom bit the dust recently. The tightening knobs are pressure fit plastic, and it didn't like holding up my SM7B at the angle I wanted it at for streaming. How do you like that Gator arm?
From their website 😢 The production of all modules has halted and Mutable Instruments will permanently shut down in December 2022. You can still contact us for support and repairs until June 2023.
Jeremy, are those sounds running through any FX after Plaits? It sounds amazing! I don't do much modular but I have a Plaits clone somewhere around here, I'm going to have to get it hooked up! Thanks for the awesome video.
Have you asked about it in the MI forum? I forget the details, but I've seen that said before. I'm not sure if it can be a calibration problem - maybe, because trigger uses an ADC input via an op amp, like the other inputs, on the Plaits. If not. it might need to be sent for repair. It's probably worth looking into before she disappears for good.
I can get it to the cascading light stage, then it Clips red. I tried running it through a mixer headphones out of my laptop headphones out of my monitors Euro rack mixer Euro rack filters Boost pedals Attenuator patch cables I'm starting to give up here
One of the knobs is and attenuator (volume) for the audio signal - check the instructions to see which one (I forget). Anyway, it's likely your volume for the wav file is too low. Try increasing it.
@@MChristian yes indeed! I would get it to blank in the correct sequence for about half a second and then it would start clipping every time The phone was the only correct volume
It really is the King of Eurorack Voices.

You're the king of eurorack voices
Matt's a fan of Eurorack modules *and* D&D modules lol
just you wait.
Plaits was my first module.

Dang, I did not started this video in order to convince myself to purchase an unit, but HERE IT GOES! Nice showcase. Thanks.
Was just going to look into the firmware update, thanks for being on top of this!
I’ve watched this video like 8 times, and I get something new out of it each time. Fantastic demo and music.
Like several others, I also read about the update and watched a video or two. It seemed cool but I wasn't inspired to go through the update process at the time and honestly forgot about it. Thank goodness I found this video! What a great demonstration of how awesome this update actually is. To the laptop!
Great demos, you keep things simple and you really showcase the musical quality of the module with cool tracks.
Never had Plaits but had to get one from Patchwerks after the update and love it! Much Love to Jeremy, Emilie and Patchwerks!
Appreciated the protogen joke - love those funky little robot critters.
Thank you Mr. Recording ! I would not have known there was a Plaits update if not for this video 🙏🙏🙏

Why not try VCV Rack to see if you like it? :)
It's not the same as the real, tactile, hands-on thing but it's free!

the jam at 20:36 is so sick. Another kick-ass demo Jeremy!
Again. This is exactly what I was looking for. 😂 thanks Jeremy! ❤
I knew from the title that this was going to slap. Did not disappoint. Hi Riker!
Thank your for that video. Best one so out there about the new update!

She left a massive mark on synthesis in general, what a legacy.

Awesome overview!
"Plaits" is the British way of saying, "braids." And it's pronounced "plats" (like "flats"), because the Brits talk funny. 😉
In that case Mark Knoppfler's band's name is surprisingly self deprecating...
I get your Protogen joke, I love you
the plait thickens
