  • Living the Overlander’s Dream. Source of the Okavango 4x4 Expedition, part 23. Mekoro Trail Okavango Style
We tear ourselves away from the luxury at Delta Camp to go on a CIM - A Chiefs Island Mekoro Trail. In three mekoro dugout canoes, our expert guides take us to experience the Okavango wildlife. This is part-23 of a 26-part series.
"This is some of the best adventure travel TV I've ever made, and remains the best expedition I have yet undertaken." Andrew S White.
An epic 4x4 overland expedition where Andrew St Pierre White goes on a quest to find the source of the Okavango River. This river, as it turns out, is also the source of his love of overland travel and expedition life.
This series of videos is a nostalgic look at what made an English boy fall in love with Africa and Toyota Land Cruisers. Andrew retraces his steps recalling the time when having been taken to the Okavango. This 66-day expedition is a solo trip through Namibia, Angola and Botswana. Andrew is one of a very small group of TV adventures that is not backed up by a team of TV crew and their supporting entourage. Andrew truly goes it alone.
In the upcoming programs, Andrew reaches the Kunene, the river dividing Namibia with Angola to its north, he meets a group of travellers waiting to take him into Angola. His quest is to find the source of the Okavango, deep in the highlands. He then carries with his a bottle of water from its source, all the way, deep into the Okavango Delta. In the final episode, in the final trickle in a riverbed, he then watches as his water disappears into the desert, deep in the Kalahari. An epic tale of overland adventure.

Thank you very much for doing this show. I worked for a few overland companies in the past and seeing these places brings back great memories. Now I'm just an old Somerset Wester living in Perth trying to go bush as much as I can with my 4x4.

"...game on foot is an utterly different experience...", Never said better. In addition to loving overland travel, I am also a passionate hunter in Africa (but let's leave the politics of that for another day). The absolute worst day hunting on foot, up well before dawn, walk till you drop in the heat, tracking spoor (or lack of it!), creeping within a few meters of extremely dangerous game just to let them pass, and then back to camp late at night, exhausted with nothing to show for the days' efforts other than sore muscles and indelible memories, ready to do it again tomorrow, is better than the best day in a car in a national park. It is visceral. You are on their turf. Your life is literally at the mercy of Mbogo's whim (Cape Buffalo). Honestly, an entire hunting safari where you never even take a shot is a life-changing experience, and that is why we do it.

another amazing video, but it would be more amazing with good audio, since there are some times that there is only audio on the left side.

We came upon a large male lion when we went for a bush walk in the okavango. We had nothing for protection. Good thing he saw us and trotted off but i still remember that feeling and i was lucky to get a nice photo of him staring at us!

You stated the Okavango isn’t the best place to see game. Where would you recommend going for the best opportunity to see wild game?
