This makes me cry. My grandfather, born in 1922, was a lifelong Sox fan and he died unexpectedly 6 weeks before they won. We placed in his casket 2 tickets to a game he was supposed to have attended on the day he was buried. I'd like to think that he may have had a small part in the 2004 victory. Thanks, Papa! Still waiting on those Megabucks numbers, though! :)
My Grampa was born in 1920 and died Oct 9th 2004 so he never saw it either. I like to think he got there found the babe and kicked his butt so we could win. The emotion evey time I see anything about the 04 Sox is like nothing else. Best moment of our lives for sure.
I see this commercial and immediately think of my uncle Alec and my grandfather, who sadly did not live to see the Curse broken. Love you, guys. Miss you every day.
19 years later and still the greatest commercial in TV history. Tear up every time I see this especially after dying in 86 and 03. 2004 Red Sox lives forever!
I never had a movie make me cry. (Though Field of Dreams was close) But this got me teary. My dad passed away in 1999 and never got to see his team win.(He was born in 1925) This came on right after game 4 of the 2004 WS ended. And to think it only took 3 years to win it again. Who knows this years team seems to get along and with Valentine and Beckett and others gone things are looking positive. Go Sox.

Couldn't stop remembering this ad and what it meant 14 years ago...Go Red Sox... 2004 / 2007 / 2013 and 2018 Champs
Dude my name is a very cool name all I have to say is thank you for posting this historic commercial 20 years since the 2004 World Series I was 4 years old when they won it and I’m proud to say my name is actually Boston and I’m proud to be a Bostonian sports fan thank you and god bless and go Sox
I'm a Yankee fan and I love this commercial. I can't help it. I remember seeing this commercial right after they won and saying "you know what, it's alright!" But 2004 was enough :)
Had to watch this after the Cubs won. As well as all of the Giants winning reaction from the SF bars. NOTHING makes me teary eyed like seeing the elation from your fellow fans and knowing you felt the same way, the way your team won. In that moment. You can hear it, when they cheer, its heavier than usual, yet so much happiness, elation, joy, and emotion, because all the memories and the people that you love, that share your love for your team, everything that surrounds your team, for all your life, suddenly comes out. Congrats Cubbies. Welcome back!!!
Every time I see this spot, I get that hitching lump in my throat. You'd have to have grown up a frustrated Sox fan to understand, I guess. It was more than a sport. It's like a hand-me-down heirloom to root the Boston nine. This ad celebrates the tenacity of the fans, and not so much star players. I watched it again in October when the Sox made it to the WS. I Love it, and kudos to Nike for such a sublime, touching spot.
Beautiful, beautiful ad. Seen it probably 100 times since the first commercial break after the Sox winning the ALCS in '04, and I still get chills. Everything from the period costuming to the violin piece, to the wear and tear of Fenway Park over the years is done superbly.
I'm not an emotional person to begin with. I laugh at people who cry in movies etc... But I came damn near close to tears when I saw this. I think it was only shown once, first commercial right after they won the WS in 04 and broke the curse. I thought of my father who passed in March of 1999 and never got to see the Sox win it all. Then the ending credits that Fox did was great with a Van Morrison song.."Golden Autumn Day" I forget the second but the last song was "At last" by Etta James. Great ending montage. I must also confess certain songs can get me close to tears. Even crying on the inside.
Awsome commercial. The people of Boston were patient for far too long, they deserved the world championship. I wish could go back in time to a Red Sox game to see what it was like to be at a game! GO RED SOX!!!!!
I was 17 and a senior in high school. My kid brother was sleeping..my dad woke him up and said come see something you grandfather never thought was possible. Almost 17 years later, Joe bucks call makes me tear up. My wife is a Chicagoan and diehard cubs fan...she finally understands
October 2004: From utter despair to ecstasy in 10 days. Only baseball can create such emotions. I'm glad I was alive to see it but sad that so many other Red Sox fans passed away before it happened.
@jetblach I've watched HBO's "The Reverse of the Course of the Bambino" and I know what you're talking about; I also read "The History of the World Series" by Cuban writer Julio Vené, which includes the story of an old man crying and smiling all alone at a bar in St Louis after the Red Sox won Game 4, telling Vené the story of his life, which is very similar to the one told by this commercial. I'm a Red Sox fan, but much more, since 2004, I'm a Red Sox Fans' fan. Greetings from Mexico.
@1945joshuaruiz In 1918, the Red Sox won their 5th title. From 1918 to 2004, the Red Sox did not win the world series. This commercial celebrates our loyalty to the team and is a tribute to people like my grandfather and father who have longed for the Red Sox to win the WS and went through that drought to see it finally happen. 86 years went by for this title. That's long. This event connected mothers, daughters, sons, fathers, grandparents. It helped me connect with my father.
This was shown twice. The first time after the final out of Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS, otherwise known as the greatest moment in the history of Yankee Stadium. The second time after the final out of Game 4 of the 2004 World Series, when 86 years of pain, suffering, misery, and agony were finally washed away.
James Trout Though I'm not the biggest fan of Boston Sports, the Red Sox have earned my respect, because I despise the Yankees. I was so excited to see the Yankees gave such a miserable defeat after the incredible advantage they had.
My grandfather, now 96, had been a Red Sox fan all his life, and through him, my father, his sister, all my cousins, siblings, and myself. Its hard to say, but at 25 (with a full life still ahead of me, and so many things to see and to see happen)I grudgingly admit seeing our boys win was one of the greatest moments of my life. The best part is having so many people to share such a great moment with. Red Sox Nation forever.
As a Dodger fan I was the same re:Giants But now It's FUCK THE ASTROS time If the Astros play the Nazis fuck it I'll yell Heil Hitler If the Astros fought against the British in the Revolutionary War I'd pull a Benedict Arnold Fuck the Astros and Hurricane Harvey did nothing wrong
I remember this when i was a kid! This commercial chokes me up every time. If they ever make one for the Sacramento Kings when ever they win a NBA championship i will cry like a damn baby. We have a curse and havent won a title since 1951.
It's not the same. The Sacramento Kings were from three different towns and don't have a century-long fan base. The equivalent would be the Phoenix Suns.
As I stared at the T.V in complete shock that I'm finally able to see a Red Sox World Series Championship, this commercial immediately follows. I will never forget that '04 Red Sox squad. Wish they could have won it with Nomar though
I remember this, the feeling back then was awesome. Great, great commercial. Wow it seems so long ago now. Time does fly, two more titles after that epic one.
I've been a Sox fan since pretty much birth, and my mom used to take me to Fenway to see Reggie Smith patrol the outfield. I remember sitting in my chair with the lights off holding my head after Game 6 of '86. 2004 made everything so much better, and I want to thank you for posting that incredibly touching tribute.
This all occured during my senior year of college in Maine. I remember watching this online time after time as a good luck charm during the Red Sox incredible run. It's a fantastic ad. Does anyone else sometimes feel an intense sense of sadness when you watch highlights from that season and you see all the players who left. In some cases they retired, got traded, or signed with the Yankees.
St. Louis Cardinals fan, diehard, my entire life. After the series concluded and this came on, I can safely say it is the only time ever that a commercial moved me to tears.
I remember seeing this on tv during the World Series, and knowing they were going to do this... probably one of the most beautiful commercials ever -- well, of course, it has to do with my team but it beautifully illustrates what it's like to be a lifelong Sox fan in a family of lifelong Sox fans...
Even if you count Sigmund Freud's entire career consisting of permanently bringing back the "Your mother" line of jokes, this is still the greatest ad ever in the history of time.
Brings a tear to my eye. The suffering of generations finally coming to an end. Like a weight lifted off my chest. Pure joy. I will never feel anything like that again.
if you are not a redsox fan it is probably hard to understand how great this add really is, i watched it and got chills, its amazing how simple it is, but how special that win and that 2004 team was/is/will forever be
20 years later, it was the most memorable tv commercial. 🥺When I was a kid that day while I was in an elementary school, and we all heard Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 before celebrating the World Series, the curse was broken after we have suffered over 86 years. We all tried, tried and failed, tried and failed until 2004, it brought us a miracle. We won the World Series and its all over the news, and we all celebrating and having a party. As a Boston sports fan, I'm proud of Red Sox who brought the miracle and winning the World Series in 2004.
if you're a baseball fan, this commercial would bring tears to my eyes. It doesn't matter what time you cheer for. I'm from Toronto, and this commercial was so touching. That's right, we watch baseball here in Canada too.
Growing up in Boston my whole i life i can say that when i saw this commercial live i knew it would always be one of my favorite commercials. It'll always have a special place in my heart.... Go Sox.
Don't worry! It is the Old People like myself who have been Red Sox Fans since we were Little Boys and Girls that will never forget the 86 years of heartache we have suffered. To think back in 1986 after we lost to the Mets, I firmly believed that the Red Sox would never win the World Series. But now after seeing Boston win not once, twice but three times, anything the Red Sox do until the day I die will be gravy for me. The Red Sox won the 2004 World Series two weeks after my 42nd Birthday!
I tear up every time. First time I ever cried watching baseball, second time was when the Cubs won it. Baseball is all about memories, good and bad, and when people finally feel the ultimate joy after years of frustration and disappointment, that’s a memory that will last forever.
I dont think my father or my grandfather have ever been happier then that day. I have only seen my dad so emotional when the pats won in 2001 and the sox in 2004, and my grandfather called the first thing after they won. Those of us who were born in the last 20 years have been spoiled.
Not even a Red Sox fan but this commercial makes me cry Everytime. Watching your team get so close for years and then to finally see them do it makes all the disappointment worth it.
And just to say, Dolan is too concerned with making money rather than winning championships....I've said it many times before, but as long as he is the owner of the Knicks, the team will NEVER win an NBA title. You heard it here first. :(
I totally agree with you. This is a great commercial and your comment was great too. I am a Boston fan and yes, I hold a long and deep hatred for the Yankees, but like you its in my blood. Yeah, one for the cubbies.
My Eyes Are full of tears right now, cuz I remember seeing this right after the sox won it in 2004 with the WORLD CHAMPS 2004 caption in the bottom corner. GO SOX GO (and yes, I'm from Boston)
I still get fuzzy feeling from this commercial seeing this after the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series. I remembered calling my Dad after Red Sox won and he was even more happier that I was seeing the Red Sox win. I live in Los Angeles, but I remembered going to San Diego in 2007 just to watch the Red Sox. And I'll go again the next time the Red Sox will take on the Padres in San Diego. The only time the Red Sox ever came to Los Angeles was in 2002.
@fmnma1 Hey... the SOX never give up, dude. There were sometimes that I thought I wouldn't live to see it... like when that happened to poor Bill "Between the Legs" Buckner. But, well, when all seemed lost again, we had the Yankees to choke and allow the greatest comeback in history of baseball. "Who would have believed you all come along? Hands... touching hands... reaching out... touching me, touching you..."
This was the first ad to play immediately after the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the ALCS. An excellent ad with great attention to detail. I like how Fenway deteriorates over the years. Makes me weep like a little girl every time. Great job, Nike. You may have 13 year olds making your sneakers for 10 cents an hour, but damn it if you can't come up with a beautiful ad.
Sox fans get it, 2004 was what we have all been waiting for, for a long time, and yes some were watching from above. But it was sweeter with the biggest choke job of all time, and yankee fan save it, you know it was 3-0, please pipe down. I was very lucky, I was in St. Louis when the Sox won, a very surreal moment when they won, the Cardinal fans were very gracious, congrats to them last year. But this is a new year...not looking too bad.
ive been to two of the eight sox games this year that they beat the yanks and both were great games. What a great year for the sox. Lets hope we win another world series trophy this year.
I have both games on tape .Game 7 ALCS and game 4 WS. It was shown after Game 4 of the WS ended when the celebration went from the field to the locker room.
I remember this was one of the first commercials they showed after the sox won the series, and in the bottom corner it said something like "world champs". Yea, its an awesome commercial
I agree too! I am a boston fan - born and raised. But I love the cubs and if we lost to them I would be happy for the cubbies. Of course I'd rather the sox win...but I love the cubs too.
I cried a little when I first saw it after they won the World Series. I was the first one to see it in the house because everyone else was jumping around when we won. I got the full effect of it. I was only 13, but I'm sure it would do the same thing even now that I'm 17.
Sometimes having a lot tragedy and broken dreams makes the wait worth awhile when your team finally wins a World Series that shook the baseball world. Yeah, Yankees have 27 World Series. But it gets old real quick like what else is new? '04 was indeed a magical run to the World Series and wining it all. Go Red Sox!
I’m a die hard yankee fan but this commercial makes me tear up. I wish they had a commercial like this for when the cubs won because yes I am a Yankee fan but I was born and raised in Chicago and I remember that the impact of when they won was huge. Every Chicagoan, no matter what team you liked, was on their feet cheering because the cubs didn’t win for 118 years.
This makes me cry. My grandfather, born in 1922, was a lifelong Sox fan and he died unexpectedly 6 weeks before they won. SoftBank47 oh they saw it, brother. Red Sox 2004, Cubs 2016, Astros 2017 are why we watch sports and live and die with our teams.
I hear yu.
19 years later and still the greatest commercial in TV history. Tear up every time I see this especially after dying in 86 and 03. 2004 Red Sox lives forever!
Except you literally didn't die in 1986 and 2003. Unfortunately plenty of fans did without ever seeing 2004.
@@mikewalsh1189no kidding but my grandfather died 8 days before they won in 2004 and he was born in 1920 so never saw them win.
@@JG24rlzsun You just made my point.

Best Commercial Ever. It added some more heartfelt moments when it was played right before the bottom of the 9th, Game 4 of the 04 series. Great Vid.

We even have a holiday dedicated to the Stankees. It's called YED. Yankee Elimination Day, LOL.
I remember this when i was a kid!

I've seen this clip literally dozens of times ever since it first played and it makes me cry every single time.

No disrespect to 2007,2013,2018 Red Sox. 2004 was the most amazing WS run in Sox history.
Im not a Red Sox fan. Tigers fan but this video is amazing. See you guys in the playoffs.
St. Louis Cardinals fan, diehard, my entire life. After the series concluded and this came on, I can safely say it is the only time ever that a commercial moved me to tears.

This is a beautiful video - stunningly made.
It's the best commercial ever seen
Damn..This makes me teary eyed..Watching this makes me so proud, not only to be a Sox fan, but to be from Boston..Go Sox!
I will cry if they ever post a commercial like this as soon the Knicks won the finals.
Not going to happen any time soon, I'm afraid. :(

I totally agree with you. This is a great commercial and your comment was great too. I am a Boston fan and yes, I hold a long and deep hatred for the Yankees, but like you its in my blood.
Yeah, one for the cubbies.
Everytime I see this I think about my grandfather and my uncles who never lived long enough to see the championships. We are very blessed.
Red Sox Fan here,
Its your turn cubs make the dream a reality!
our day is coming. within the next 5 years oh yes it is coming...

this brought a tear to my eye =) thats very rare for any move or TV commercial, love this
That commercial is so beautiful. I never get tired of watching it.
Anyone thought about Cleveland just recently while watching this?
Or the Cubs
greatest commercial ever that brings a tear in my eye.its a shame were not in there right now
would be great if they did a ad like this with the Kop at Anfield. great vid :)
What an ad. Simple concept. Poignant execution. Go Red Sox!!!
HOLY SHIT! I haven't seen this commercial since the night of game 7 of the ALCS in 2004 vs. the Yankees! Boy this brings back memories.
Nike Should Do a Cubs Version of This
NYR1994 The old men would have to be skeletons by the time they finally won.
Always remember where we came from Red Sox Nation. Just like The Women's Movement in the 1970's, WE'VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY!
My Eyes Are full of tears right now, cuz I remember seeing this right after the sox won it in 2004 with the WORLD CHAMPS 2004 caption in the bottom corner. GO SOX GO (and yes, I'm from Boston)
Best chomercial ever, thank you 2004 Boston Red Sox, it's a shame it won't happen this year too.
We didn't have to wait quite as long as these guys, but it perfectly captures my sentiment. Thank you Red Sox, thank you Giants.
This still brings tears to my eyes when watching it. A great commercial.
Best. Ever.
Nike never ceases to amaze us.
That commerical is great. One of the greatest Nike commericals ever.
I remember this was one of the first commercials they showed after the sox won the series, and in the bottom corner it said something like "world champs".
Yea, its an awesome commercial
have some respect, this commercial celebrates the decades of pain red sox fans have endured for that magical year. Brings a tear to my eye, go sox!
Red Sox fan or not, you've gotta admit that this is one of the best commercials ever made.
& now 4 World Series titles since 2004.
The Red Sox win titles now!!!!!
possibly one of the best commercials ever.
GO SOX!!
Go Red Sox!
i couldnt agree with u more. boston fans are the best and most faithful in any sport. : ) GO SOX!!
Fantastic commercial. If only my grandfather had lived long enough to see October 2004.
108*
Man, this commercial still gets me four years later.
Beautiful commercial..As a true Red Sox fan its wicked touching..
absolutely love this :) GO SOX!
always a fan, through thick and thin.
This brings a tear to my eye. LETS GO SOX LETS DO IT AGAIN THIS IS OUR YEAR
I love this commercial so much. Makes me tear up a little every time.
