My top 5 favourite books of 2024 are also all of my 5 star reads :D - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (classic) - In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan (YA fantasy) - Fellowship of the Ring by Tolkien (I'm so happy to see that you love Frodo! I feel like he is very underappreciated) - You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian (historical romance) - Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Elves and Faeries (fantasy)
Cheers to a reading year of quality over quantity!🎉 My top 5, in no particular order: 1. After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond, Bruce Greyson, non-fiction (Neuropsychology); 2. Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants, Robin Wall Kimmerer, non-fiction (nature, ecology, botany); 3. Everything We Never Had, Randy Ribay, YA Historical Fiction 4. A Fire So Wild, Sarah Ruiz-Grossman, Urban Fiction/Political Fiction; 5. Maisie Dobbs series, Jacqueline Winspear, Historical Mystery Fiction.
I'm looking forward to the next year of books and movies from you! As for my 5 favorites this year, it probably shakes out like this. The first 2 for sure, and tied for my favorite. 1. Look at Me - Anita Brookner. Psychological fiction. 2. Stranger in Olondria - Sofia Samatar. Fantasy, beautiful. 3. Unselected Journals of Emma Lion - Beth Brower. Delightful historical fiction. 4. Doomsday Book - Connie Willis. Sci-fi. 5. The Bluest Eye - Toni Morrison. Litfic. Elegiac.
I’m sorry you had a difficult year. I did too. I think everyone I know had a truly awful year. My book list is smaller for similar reasons. I found during grief I experienced, short works like poetry and short stories - works that I could pour myself into without a major sense of commitment.
I’m so ready for 2025 cause 2024 was a hot mess for me too. I read 40 books this year which is the most I have ever read, which is awesome. My top favorites would have to be, The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon (historical fiction) The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer (literary but with some cozy and magical vibes) The Last Word by Taylor Adams (thriller) The Seven Year Slip and the Dead Romantics The Briar Club by Kate Quinn (historical fiction) The Only One Left by Riley Sager (thriller) Here’s to 2025 being a better year ❤
I love these kinds of videos. Nearly 60 books in a bad year is impressive still. I doomscrolled a lot as well and managed 5 😅 your answers to these questions were so interesting, thanks for the wrap up and have a good new year! 🫶🏻
Didn’t read as much NF as I would have liked, but “Unbroken” by Angela Sterritt was amazing. For YA, my faves were “Song of the Six Realms” (Judy I. Lin) and “She Is A Haunting” (Trang Thanh Tran). Of the few middle-grade books from this year, Peter Brown’s “The Wild Robot” was my fave. And the anthology “Never Whistle at Night” (edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Van Alst Jr.) was a highlight in terms of horror and weird fiction.
Cinco mejores para mi: One perfect couple - Ruth Ware Middle of the night - Riley Sager The midnight feast - Lucy Foley The housemaid series - Freida McFadden Just for the summer - Abby Jimenez
I didn't have such a great reading year. I was in such a reading slump. I've read 31 books this year which is such a low number compared to previous years but I'm hoping for a better 2025 and hoping to also reduce my physical tbr pile because it has gotten a little out of control. My top five this year would be Bonesmith and Ghostsmith by Nicki Pau Preto Heartstopper Vol. 5 by Alice Oseman One Piece (manga) A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher
1. Drinking from Graveyard Wells by Yvette Lisa Ndlovu (short stories) 2. Prophet Song by Paul Lynch (dystopian fiction) 3. A Mouth Full of Salt by Reem Gaafar (fiction) 4. Ghostroots by Pemi Aguda (short stories) 5 Your Wish is My Command by Deena Mohamed (graphic novel)
This looks like a fun tag to participate in 🥹 so I’m definitely going to incorporate. Also, sometimes we just don’t make even numbers and you don’t have to anyway
