Jethro Tull are a British progressive rock band formed in 1967. The group’s founder Ian Anderson plays flute & acoustic guitar & is the lead singer & quite a showman. They've had a lot of different members over the years. They had a lot of great songs such as "Thick As A Brick", "Aqualung", "Living In The Past", "Songs From The Wood", "A New Day Yesterday", "Cross-Eyed Mary", "Bungle In The Jungle", "Sweet Dream", "Life’s A Long Song" etc.

I love their entire catalog, but to someone new to Jethro Tull, I would say that Ian Anderson saw himself as a troubadour, and a most of his music is calmer and less punchy. Aqualung is the other song this rock-oriented.

Saw the band again last year at the Apollo Theatre in Paris... Ian is still freaking hot on the flute.
Speaking of a warrior, they do a song called Broadsword.

You know what I love about "Locomotive Breath" reaction videos (yes I seek them out)? That moment when he breaks out his flute, and the person gets a look on their face like nothing makes sense any longer. Then I get a big dumb smile on my face, because while I can't hear Jethro Tull "fresh" any longer (I started listening 40 years ag0), I can feel it just a little bit through other people's reactions. Anyway, I enjoyed this a lot!

Me too. I was introduced to Benefit (the album) in 1970, been a Tull fan ever since, and I watch reviews in exactly the same way you do.
Tull were one of the sharpest, tightest most creative bands In the rock era. Martin Barre is one of the most underrated guitarists of their time, even though Jethro Tull won the first ever Grammy for heavy metal. Love’em.

Yes! And this band got named after him by random: when this band was getting started, they were pretty terrible, and couldn't get booked twice at the same venue unless they changed their name. Well, the first week they weren't terrible, their random name was Jethro Tull, and it stuck.

My first time on your channel. You said check out something else. Well my man, you are at the right place. Tull were ground breakers. And Ian the singer was great!!!! Wait for the flute! There are certain ROCK songs that you know in the first few notes. This is one of them. Get ready for the flute..... Speaking of the flute, Ian was questioned about the flute. Ian said a flute is easier to carry than a piano. Jethro Tull is the band.. The man singing is Ian Anderson.. I have watched other videos presented by professional flutists and they say this is a master class in flute!!! Ian could play a number of instruments well. Take care man.....

They had many hits for some nice harmony songs from the wood.
And they do a real nice cover their own way of Mozart's Bourree.
There were other bands that featured flutes but Jethro Tull/ Ian Anderson did the most.
Grand Funk Railroad I'm your Captain utilizes a flute. I suggest you give them a listen. Their best song is Inside Looking Out.

Ian Anderson is self taught on the flute. You have to watch/hear “God” if you want to experience the most awaking flute. Thick as a Brick is a real experience. He told his producer that he wanted to record a new album. The producer asked him if he had enough material for an album. He said is he had one song. That album is one song.
Interesting fact, one year Metallica got a Grammy and they started their acceptance speech by that king Jethro Tull for NOT releasing an album that year. Tull has a treasure trove of tunes, with a new album being released in 2023. Going long, and going strong.
Guitarist is Martin Barre - a world class guitarist. The bassist is Dave Pegg who at that time was also in a very well known folk band here in the uk. That meant that the two bands were joined together and had to tour together because they shared a member.
Big Jethro Tull fan here. For some more spectacular flute playing listen to Nights In White Satin by The Moody Blues. The late great Ray Thomas played flute in that band.

I think that version is fairly okay but you must listen to the studio version of Locomotive Breath…or any version with the original introduction

My first concert I was 13 1971 Jethro Tull, the Aqualung tour. I’m 65 and still listen to them. Some Jethro Tull albums Aqualung, Stand Up, Thick as a Brick, Minstrels in The Gallery, and many more.

I've subscribed because I know you'll want to hear more Tull. Singer/song writer, Ian Anderson started with guitar, but says he heard Eric Clapton and knew he would never be that good. So he bought a flute and taught himself to play it.
Great music takes be back to the 70’s
I've seen them 5 times in my life and they make it back to Houston I would go again. They are touring in Europe now and released a new album maybe two months ago. Enjoy
Gotta love first flute exposures from Ian (aka Ron Burgandy) - Toni Iommi (Blk Sabbath guitarist) was once invited to join Jethro Tull, can you imagine! Ian was playing guitar until he heard Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, then he SELF TAUGHT himself on the flute instead. OMG

This song is about the advances in technology and the speed of changes coming at us. There is no way to slow down. We can look around us, and see coming true the warning that we heard many years ago. Ian Anderson was both gifted musician and a gifted performer. Saw them twice in concert -- very memorable.
Ian took a short break towards the rear of the stage -- I yelled 'Yo Ian', and caught his eye -- I gave him a raised fist, and he actually responded in like. Yay - COMMUNICATION!
The classic rock band Jethro Tull was on a different level. They could play all genres well, even classical, and could be the most underrated band of all time.
The Moody Blues had a flute player but not as rocking as JT. And there is no one like Ian Anderson. I saw them around this time and everybody was rocking and jumping all thru the concert. Amazing and talented group!
Frontman Ian Anderson plays flute and guitar and performs all of the lead vocals. He added some dramatic flair to the music via his facial expressions. I saw the band while living in New York at the Nassau County Coliseum. The bad was on a tour promoting Thick As A Brick at the time.

Bad luck for you, At the start you came from one hit number to the next, but greatest, on my opinion! There were a lit great numbers, but Locomitive Breath is still the greatest Hit in Mid Europe,I think!!!!

England produced so much talent in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s was due to the boomer kids, because of the English after the war to get music into the country. Music class was mandatory!

Jethro Tull was an amazing prog-rock band! Besides a flute, they also had an accordian in one song. They really were incredible.
