I'm so impressed with how much you're able to do just on your own. Not only are you out there to make field recordings, surrounded by deadly animals, fixing your broken down engine - you're also simultaneously filming everything from like four different angles to compose this stunning video. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was a national geographic production or something. You're a certified badass!
loved this video im a location sound mixer and i just this past winter went to the okkeefinokee myself all the gators where frozen beacuse of the cold no bugs no people really very special my number two fav spot after Joshwa tree thanks for the great vid much love
The current size of the Great Dismal Swamp is around 750 square miles. Still love that you got to go to the biggest near you! (Okefenokee is the largest 'blackwater' swamp on the continent). btw, I love swamps. Grew up in VA, living in WI now.
This is a wonderful video. I bet it's unintentional on everybody's part, but I get a huge laugh out of listening to the documentary soundtrack of warbly Tilt-a-Whirl music starting at 4:27.
This shirts, and the t-shirt with mutant flamingos especialy, are not one sale as they're banned in most of the countries on our planet. But Benn is special, he can whispers in the gators' hears and to a Mercury engine.
You did right by going to Fargo to get to the swamp. Fargo is one of the most remote places in Georgia and the swamp is a further 17 miles down a country road from Fargo. You are literally surrounded by swamp and woods. It's so secluded it's a designated Dark Sky Park and is excellent for seeing stars much brighter than you normally can on the east coast and no light equals no people. I go to Fargo and Folkston swamp locations very often to record video and do field recordings. I've only seen a few videos of yours but have seen enough to not get into a boat with you. Good luck with your future adventures.

cool vid, love to see this. Judging from your character and some of the things you share on this channel you seem to have a pretty cool life. Enjoy it!
This video is amazing for so many reasons. You seem pretty much fearless out there even though you're alone. The cinematography and editing is absolutely beautiful. Your music (that I've been listening to for the past month or so) fits perfectly. I love everything about this.
Do a field recording out in Maine's 100 mile wilderness. Treat yourself and do it during autumn. Bonus points if you go out to Mt Katahdin and traverse the knife's edge.
I used to work in the western Nevada, Eastern California desert on a cattle ranch. Even though there are some dirt roads, no one lives or drive out there. The only humans are usually at a cow camp, which means they're sleeping, eating, or riding on a horse with no one to talk to. It's beautifully quiet!!!! I loved it 😍
I just wanted to say that I just ordered myself a Zoom H6 so that I can start taking my own ambient soundscapes as well as making some impulse responses for reverb and maybe speakers/cabs. I've wanted a field recorder for at least a decade and watching you go out into the world and record it as well as watching you make reverb IRs of giant tubes has convinced me to go through with the purchase. I'm really excited to begin my journey so thanks for pushing me over the edge!
Magic! I'm glad it hasnt changed much in the 18 years since I was there doing exactly the same thing you are. I had a crummy mic and a really fancy camera.
Your production values and editing are incredible. Thank you so much for sharing these journeys - they are inspiring and they engender awe and instill peace. Just incredible to me.
A friend turned me on to a site with ambient sounds from many locations. They were all in mono! Thank you for stereo. Surround would be knock-out! Your battery comment was priceless.
Amazing! Well worth a little bit of human noise with your boat motor to get there and experience! Your projects keep on getting more and more interesting. Keep it up Benn!!!
This was absolutely superb! The set-up, the story-telling, the natural sounds mingled with excellent music, and video editing/cuts. One of your best. (imho)
I have dabbled in sound, video, editing, TV broadcast, recording, song writing, performing and what you have done here has me wanting to put the various skills to work an tackle some serious film making. This was awesome, I will be digging into more of your content. - Cheers
Top notch video work Benn, loved the cinematic feel to all this. Just recently read Murakami's South of the Border, West of the Sun and I'm eager for more.
Next level video Benn! I mean this is National Geographic level man. Also about the "deadly" animals. No animal will attack with no reason. And usually the reason is human behaviour or human interference with nature.
You are a brave (or crazy) guy & I love what you do. I’m in the UK but have flown light aircraft in several southern states including over the Everglades and down to the Florida’s Keys. I’d love to go back but the pandemic has screwed everything up including my pilot’s licence which has now lapsed. Keep entertaining man. Cheers. Lee

Excellent video, mate. Mabye us, electric musicians, are somehow indoor beasts, loving being surrounded by the reassuring expensive gear lights and the calm breathing of our machines' fans but some of us go into the wild! Great work.
I’ve been out there in a canoe before. Absolutely beautiful place. You’re pretty ballsy for going out there alone with a cheap motor and a boat you can barely row.
"Forget about the stalking gators, stay still, and record the amazing ____" is tremendous all-purpose life advice. Beautiful, inspiring video, Benn. Let's see you in Badlands, SD next. Recording the coyotes at 1am is pretty surreal, and the astrophotography possibilities are excellent.
Please do NOT forget about large stalking predators, they're called predators for a reason. I knew someone who ended as a tasty dinner based on the above advice.
@@orphanfrequencyyeah1742 yeah, let's not pretend that what our guy is doing here isn't tremendously stupid. As much as what he says might sound good in a metaphorical sense, actual predators are not very poetic when you're about to be their midnight snack
Good job on the VHS effect, most attempts are clearly just a modern camera with an effect on the top but you could fool me into thinking you brought an actual VHS recorder with you
Okay firstly, amazing video. You never cease to amazing me with your beautiful videography and of course amazing and fitting soundscapes throughout. Secondly, what do I want to hear? I know this is a totally different ball-game, but one of my absolute favourite sounds (or lack of sounds? Ambience? whatever.), is when it's -40 something celcius here in Alberta, Canada. Have you ever experienced that? Standing outside in -45C or below weather and just listening? It's like you can hear snowflakes forming in the air around you. Every tiny sound seems to both come from a vast distance and from right inside your ear at the same time. It's bizarre and wonderful. It's best in a valley in the middle of the rockies, but the middle of a very very flat field is also amazing. If you could somehow capture that maybe sometime this winter up in Canada, that would be amazing. I don't even know if recording the audio would capture the effect, because I feel like part of it is just how frigid the air is and how that might effect the sound waves physical movement to your ears. Plus, it might be a great excuse to visit Canada (assuming that's possible and legal by this winter???) or somewhere else that's just really fucking cold. I feel like you would really genuinely appreciate the extremely strange feeling it gives. It's really hard to articulate. Sorry for the long comment, amazing video as always. Also, I can't believe you slept in a hammock there hahah, you badass.
Benn I presume you make ALL of the background music? There's such an impressive range of genres in here. I cannot believe how good this Boards of Canada type beat at 4:30 is. I'm more than happy to pay for it via your Patreon, but it'd be nice to have some of these easily accessible on Spotify.
If you ever were able to afford the time and expenses Nahanni National Park Reserve would offer some amazing recording space. "Nahanni National Park Reserve, the best-known Northern park, showcases the South Nahanni River, possibly Canada's most epic waterway. Framed by four towering canyons, the river spills through the alpine habitat of broad-shouldered bears, nimble Dall's sheep and elusive woodland caribou. The whole park stretches across 30,000 square kilometres and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Attractions include Virginia Falls, a literally earthshaking cascade, the daunting Cirque of the Unclimbables, the Fairy Meadows, plus riverside hotsprings, burbling tufa mounds, and hike-able peaks. It's a stellar day-long flightseeing trip from Fort Simpson, and an even better guided or independent expedition by canoe or raft. Access is by chartered floatplane from Fort Simpson or Nahanni Butte." But where ever you go I am sure you will draw something unique out of the experience.
