Wow , I just came across your channel and subscribed , brings back a lot of memories , I grew up in Pine Rivers and tracked the old Dayboro rail from Dayboro to where I couldn't go any further on Camp Mountain , the tunnel has bats in it now that the Queensland University study , the other end was an old tip back in the day , I can just remember going there with my dad in his Crain to lift an old tractor onto a truck for one of his mates , the rail line came back from the Samsonvale station and towards Samford but looped around the Samsonvale hall , also there is a lot of WW2 history in the area , my mum lived not far from Camp Strathpine with my Grandmother and Great aunt and did laundry for the troops as well as growing fruit and veges to sell them , I'm off to watch a few more of your vlogs , cheers .
@@camcarteradventures , there's a place on the Mt Nebo /Enoggera road called Bell Bird Grove where they have set up a walking track around the old Golden Boulder mines with a story beside each shaft , haven't been there in years but found it very interesting .
Great bit of history, at the back of the old cemetery that just off Mount Samson Road and at the end of Gold Scrub Ln. out in the grassy area and mostly under water if there's plenty of water in the dam, there's an old framed building it suppose to be one of Winn's old saw mills, it was closed down when the dam was built, they had the one in Dayboro on Mount Mee Road. Have you been there or the old railway tunnel further towards Samford, It is bat bared now days.
Cool, I found an old Newspaper article about the Samsonvale Saw Mill when it was first built. It was right next to the Samsonvale Rail Station. (the Concrete Slab in my video). I have the 1946 Aerial photo which shows the building. Thanks for the info. The remnants of the old farm house foundations are still there as well.
Amazing to think of all the work that must've gone in, to building the area - only for nature to take it all back 'down the track' so to speak! Thanks for risking snakes to show us this - NOT a fan of snakes myself, and you're right about browns having anger issues...apparently; black snakes EAT browns, so IF I had to choose which slither about...
Another brilliant video 👍 I used to live at Dayboro for a while back in the mid to late 80's and new about the railway line from Ferny Grove to Dayboro which terminated where the swimming pool now is. There used to be a spur line running to a sawmill just north of the swimming pool to what used to be a sawmill, I think the place is now a veterinarian's surgery ? I also believe that (due to the population increase in the area) the railway line back to Dayboro should be rebuilt, pretty much upon the old railway corridor, with a few deviations of course. P.S. Did you know that the original North coast railway line was originally earmarked to go from Dayboro, over the mountain range and meet up at Imbil?
Thanks. I've been trying to work out where we scouts used to camp on Kobble creek (at a now submerged causeway ). It had the clearest swimming hole.... Where are you sourcing the historical imagery? Also, If I knew I was heading into long summer grass, I'd wear gaiters at least. Good news is, according to Aust Geographic there has never been a recorded death from a red-bellied black snake in Australia.
Hey Gary, Thanks for watching.. I've just checked the 1974 aerial photos of Kobble Creek. They are quite clear and in colour. It should be easy to pick out where the scout camp was. I believe it may be part of the Postman's Track Trail area. Also, yes, gaiters are on order.
Since you have been in the area - have you located the a headstone/burial of a little girl which is someway near the Samsonvale Cemetery but not part of it? Apparently it is sort of well known, lol.
Apparently the grave was put there in the early turn of the century - there were a few strories of it towards the left of the Samsonvale cemetary. I'm sorry but this story was told to me by a few locals years ago. @@camcarteradventures
Great video. Your anxiety about snakes in the long grass is not unfounded. Love the history, too.
It’s the snakes that you can’t see that are the scariest!
@@camcarteradventures Yeah the one you see is only distracting you from the five you can't see.

Very interesting as always.
Thanks for watching. There is a lot of history that was lost when they built that dam.
Just found your channel.
Love all the videos, but have a particular interest in railway and colliery based ones.
Thanks for making these for us.
Thanks for watching. I've got a few more videos planned around train lines.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t know about the extension. That would make sense as it would link up with the Kilcoy line.

Haven't seen a Headstone. I'll have to do a bit of research and look out for it. Do you know any more info?
