      This is one of the reasons for why I was and still to this day remain VERY critical on Cyberpunk 2077. I was hoping the intro segments based on your V's background was going to have the same depth and truly matter. You know, akin to DA: Origins's origins. No other game has pulled that off except for maybe a CRPG from an indie company since.
      A game like DA: Origins had MANY reasons to replay the game, and it all started at the beginning when you are crafting your character...like a good RPG should do.

      I've really wanted to do this in a tabletop campaign.
      Instead of the players writing a backstory for their character, they would give a few details & let the DM create a scenario based around what might have been a key moment in their backstory. Each player would have a session dedicated to their origin & the other players could take on supporting roles.
      Obviously, you'd have to get buy-in from everyone but I think it would help give the players a real connection to each character as they begin the main campaign.

    Hard agree! A massive issue with story-telling is the lack of actual world-building. Everything just seems so... anachronistic nowadays. @tubetorpedo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well said indeed. Anachronistic is great word to use in this context. I've seen scenes from newest DA game, and characters look and feel like modern people (who live in big cities) who are cosplaying fantasy characters, badly.
      Generally people like escapism because it takes them away from their own reality and creates fantastical worlds they can go into and meet all new kinds of wonderful characters, ideas and realities. Something totally different that stimulates the imagination and created feel of exploration because you have no idea what you will encounter when the story progresses.
      Instead of them having to see and deal with the exact same issues they already have to live with in real life. So much of modern storytelling in like black hole of imagination, all the imagination is sucked away.

    This was the very first RPG game I've ever played, and it still is my number one fave game of all time too! Wish the quality continued to improve, but hey, at least the memories will still be there 🥹. I was a fantasy book nerd when I was a kid, and Dragon Age just scratched my itch with their storytelling. The worldbuilding, the concepts of religion and interplay with politics, the wars and conflicts, and most of all, the characters. Had the worst heartbreak ever with the whole "I gotta have sex with Morrigan to save the world and contain a demon in a baby" questline, thank you Alistair. Duncan's death made me bawl like a baby. So thank you, Dragon Age Origins, for the absolutely perfect game for me.

    they game also has very satisfying spell combos, like a mage freezing an enemy and then a warrior attacking the frozen enemy shattering the body killing them instantly. this could also be done with low level mage spells alone, like cone of cold + Stone fist. Wynnie starts with stone fist, so if you have Morrican spec into cone of cold you can shatter enemies very early on. there are other combos too, like the prison spell + protective bubble, would create an explosion.

    Totally agree! Maybe not my all-time favorite but this fantastic game holds a special place in my heart. If you're the type of guy who loves to roleplay as evil (which I'm totally not, couch cough), then eat your heart out. You can sacrifice children to demons, betray your best friend (Alistair) and have him executed, help the primary antagonist (Loghain) become a hero, help a demon escape its cage, murder a priest in cold blood, join a dragon-worship cult, help a total douche (Bhelen) become king of dwarves, and of course... genocide the forest elves. That's just the stuff I remember from twelve years ago! And don't forget Oghren, the best drunken teammate in the history of video games. Anyway, thanks Fex for another great review. Perhaps needless to say, I'll be relying entirely on you for my Veilguard content. RIP Dragon Age.

    This game gave me everything i wanted from fantasy rpg game and even more! Consequences of your choises? Check. Dark and bloody medieval setting, where despite that still lives hope, love, and humor? Check. Crazy magic gameplay with sick blood magic wich makes you a killing machine? Check. Collecting a bunch off relic unuque items to have a crazy collection in stash that reminds you of your journey? Check.
    And oh boy, approval or disapproval of your choices by team members, romances, story writing, amazing side quests, unique dungeons, planing your actions in combat, various enemies from darkspawns to a booba lust demon.
    And great Awakening DLC which I've returned just a yesterday, after finishing first Mass Effect. Still don't know should I play DA2 and DAI, if somebody played it as a huge DAO fan, give me an advice 🙏

    • @guillermopaolini9895
      @guillermopaolini9895 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In general I would say yes. But keep a couple of things in mind. Comparing them to Origins. DA2 is a step back in all sections (perhaps 2 things not so much). But it's still the same type of game. It doesn't have an aerial camera and the combat is accelerated with flashy animations. DAI improves everything DA2 did wrong, but worsens what it did well. It's no longer a crpg. It is a hybrid of action and RPG game. Still, they are worth it for the story they tell you.

      @@LunaWayve If you're new to the genre of RPGs I'd recommend one of the early fallout games like Fallout 2 if you're not afraid of the old gameplay or Fallout New Vegas if you want a shooter RPG with a a lot of personal player choice through dialogue/gameplay. I've heard nothing but great things about Baldur's Gate 3 although I haven't played it yet. If you want a couple JRPG recommendations I'd recommend Fire Emblem Awakening if you think you'd like top down strategy style games (if you've ever played xcom it's like that but with an anime fantasy setting) or Persona 5 Royale if you're interested in a Japanese high school setting with dungeon crawling aspects. Elden Ring is pretty good if you want a game that will kick your teeth in but you have to actively engage in the world to get the story. I've always loved the Elder Scrolls series for another fantasy setting though it is NOT much like Origins. Hope this gives you like half a dozen games to look up and see which ones interest you most.
