Wow, absolutely no messing about with your instructions. I needed to know how to setup RAID 1 on my R220 server. Using just the first 1:45 (one minute and forty five seconds) of your video, I achieve my goal. Your video explained in just the first 1:45 what other videos explain in 6+ long and laborious minutes. Thank you. Peter...
I had set up my server as a RAID 10, I had 2 drives go bad, I replaced them, but it has not been using the new drives as it should. What do I need to do to have the server use those new drives?
I have 3 R440 servers I inherited I need to setup RAID 1s for. Can I add a second drive to the OS drive without having to format the original one? Also how do you know if one of the drives fails?
Hi, how do i replace a disk with state Foregin? I already replaced a disk with system running, is there a problem? After i replaced the LED indicator (disk) state is Rebuild aborted. The server is Dell R620 - PERC H310 Mini. The configuration is 4 disk 1TB - RAID5
if you are starting with a clean system, drives should definitely be initialized to make sure there's no remaining RAID config or data. For OS, use RAID 1 mirroring with 2 drives. Thanks!
this solution is the best; but my problem is that the unconfigured hard drives is not available under the the one configured drive, what should i do it?
If you have unconfigured drives, then they may have existing RAID configurations on them that are considered foreign. You may need to highlight the unconfigured drive and press F2 for operations to see what options are available. It could also be possible the drive needs to be converted to a RAID drive. It will be available in the F2 operation options.
This is exactly what I was looking for... Thanks for that. Now my question: I have a PowerEdge T620. 2 ssd in RAID 1 and 4 hdd in RAID 5 (I believe). I would like to upgrade the 4 existing hdd's to more capacity. Currently 1TB each. Having said this, how should I do this!? Take one drive out and put a bigger one in, and let the RAID controller "intergrade" the bigger drive, or start from scratch with ALL drives at the same time? Thanks.
Great video, but I'd suggest that people would be better off using that final disk for a RAID6 instead of RAID5 with a hotspare. There a little performance hit from RAID6 or RAID5, but the chances of losing another disk during rebuild of the RAID5 is high enough to worry about.
This is setup before setting up procmox? I have one of your Amazon servers, I also noticed idrac is on there, I configured it, but if I install procmox or something else, would I still use the iDrac?
Hi! Sorry for the late response. Dell iDrac monitors the hardware. Fans, PSU, ram, HDDs and controller, etc. Both can be used or you can just use Proxmox. Proxmox may also monitor the hardware however we're not too sure of the extent of it. There is no harm in having both options for hardware monitoring!
Thank for ur video I did all steps For riad ButI want 4 hard I did steps as below 1T mirror to 1T raid for OS srv Than make raid 2T mirror to 2T raid for storage and data When I maked raid for last 2T with raid 2T . I see last raid remove old raid 1T 1T is lose . I can't see this drive OS is down I just see last riad 2T If this only in Dell T140 Do you know why
Hi Yogesh. The Dell MD1400 would take an H830 or H840 controller. From there, the set-up and steps would be pretty much the same as done in the video. Hope that helps!
Hello Mr. Tech Mike NY, I have dell r740 I want create mirroring with RAID 5. I have 4 SAS HDD 300 GB each, Is it sufficient of I need more HDD. Advise me. Config details too for windows 2019 server on dell r740 Regards
Dude you didnt explain that right bc many people are watching in order to add a new drive to replace a bad one in Raid config. You dont mention the server needs to be turned off, meaning no users can be using it, likely meaning will need to be in down time of company.

Peter...
Thank you, Peter! Glad this helped!
def a good video
I'm not presented with the line "Press to Run Configuration Utility" during the boot up process. I'm on a Dell PowerEdge 440.
Thank you, just added a new array for the first time in a couple years and completely forgot how to do this.
This is first class well-done guys, I learnt so much. Thank you.
Wow I just bought a R730 from TECHMIKE and come to TH-cam for exact instructions 😂
Thank you for a clear explanation and demo.
Tysm i was trying to find now to clear config for hours
I have a question I have a r710 and I put a hdd into the server and it says there is no hdd installed on the pd management how can I fix that?
Been looking for thistype of no BS vid! Thanks
GOLD! Gold! THANK YOU
there is no ctrl R on my baremetal R350
I had set up my server as a RAID 10, I had 2 drives go bad, I replaced them, but it has not been using the new drives as it should. What do I need to do to have the server use those new drives?
Thanks! Your video content is the safest and most useful
Thank you. I just got a R630 and going to install vSphere 7 with trial, but first I had to do this and I had no idea how to.

is this before or after windows setup cuz when i change SATA setting mode to RAID and try to install windows i can't find the drives
Thank you. But yes, like in one of comments you stated drives have to be initialized as RAID capable first. ;-)

After i replaced the LED indicator (disk) state is Rebuild aborted.
The server is Dell R620 - PERC H310 Mini.

is it necessary to initialize VD? which RAID 0-50 should use for OS?

It is best to back-up your data and install new drives, and create a new VD. Then restore the data.
@@techmikeny1659 Roger that. Thanks.
how much time raid 1 take to sync, i install centos on t130 dell server. but when i remove one hard disk it is not working? please help me in this
I have R630 server, can I do raid 10? thx!
Yes! You can set up RAID10 with an H730, H730p, H330, or H740p controller.
Thanks alot it help me this video very much please keep going

Great stuff tech Mike

great man..thanks ..you saved me ...
How do you deal with SSDs and trimming?
Hi. The RAID controller and SSD firmware take care of it.
Nice, thanks for the info.
You saved me thanks
Thank for ur video
I did all steps For riad
ButI want 4 hard
I did steps as below

Please add tutorial on creating MD1400

Hi. RAID 6 or RAID 10 would work, giving you about 600GB of storage (more than enough for Windows Server!)
Bro, thank u👍🏻
nice video

That is how I do it
Le entendí a pesar de mi escaso manejo en el inglés xd
Hi Mike, I sent you an email
