Hello. I came across your channel yesterday when TH-cam “suggested” it to me. I watch TH-cam gardening channels instead of television and love to see other people’s gardens and to learn from them. Many of the ones I watch are in the Northwest or Northeast and while their maples and hydrangeas are gorgeous, it just doesn’t apply to my 9b South Texas zone. As I watched your video yesterday, not knowing at first where you lived, I kept saying “ I have that plant in my yard. I grow that in my vegetable garden.” I loved your video that I watched and am absolutely thrilled that we have similar climates! I can tell I’m going to learn a lot from you and your garden growing experiences. I subscribed to your channel and am going back today to watch previous videos. Thank you for the time and energy you put into the videos, even for those of us that live a few states away!

I always enjoy your videos. They keep me on track. I wish I was your neighbor. You are such a great teacher and I can tell you spend a lot of time preparing your videos and blog. I enjoyed talking to you at the Arizona worm farm. Keep up the the good work. Your videos are the best I have ever found!
I am sure that you have posted these many times but, can you please give me a link to get your arizona planting calendar. Thank you for all of your amazing videos!!!
Hi. Yes, here is a link to my shop: growinginthegarden.bigcartel.com/products unfortunately they are out of stock right now. I’m currently updating the calendar and it will be back in stock very soon.
My tomatoes and eggplants are a distant memory here in Florida but I recently harvested sweet potatoes and roselle calyxes, and am growing some fall beans and am just waiting to harvest my luffa😃 You give a ton of great tips😀
Unfortunately here in our high desert yard, it will be our first frost early tomorrow morning. I have covered the various pepper plants I hope to over-winter but left the garlic sprouts and onion sprouts out without cover. Yes, they will die back but it is a very long long growing season for those and they will be harvested late June, 2022. Everything else, well, who knows?
Hello, I love your channel. I'll soon have an apartment patio to grow some few plants. Do you have suggestions for ongoing plants in this situation? I would love to have continuous celery in a bag. I was thinking of lavender and carnation or dianthus and possibly some reed bamboo. I truly have no idea what will work in a container situation, Thanks.
Containers are a great option. Most things grow well in containers. Be careful growing celery in a grow bag, it's one of those vegetables that loves moisture and grow bags tend to dry out. I would plant celery in a self-watering container. Lavender doesn't like it too wet and does well in a terra cotta pot. Dianthus would grow well in any type of container. Not sure about bamboo, I haven't grown it before. My book (amzn.to/3myX2kS comes out in May) will be all about container gardening. Here are a few principles. Most of the items listed to plant can be successfully grown in containers. Choose the largest container you can and fill it all the way up with good potting soil. Don't over-plant and make sure plants get enough airflow, sunlight and water.
Wonderful video! Just subscribed. I’m in phoenix and planted small cherry tomatoe plants in September. They have lots of tomatoes but they are not ripening. What can we do? Temps are cool at night around 50 degrees. Thanks.
Once nighttime temps go below 50°F - They slow way down. You can cover them with frost cloth to trap some heat, top them to encourage the ripening and development of existing tomatoes, and/or pick them and bring them inside once they get the first flush of color.
Hi Angela, you mention flowers like African daisy to plant in December. Will they be flowering that month? I'm in zone 9b Silicon Valley .CA. I don't believe were "Low desert ". Will most of your To Do in the Month of apply to me? Love your videos. Thanks
They usually flower later in the spring, this blogpost list planting dates along with expected bloom times: growinginthegarden.com/arizona-annual-flowers-visual-guide/ Planting times would be similar, but you would have more options because you don't get our extreme heat.
I always fail trying to grow Luffa from seed. Your channel is the reason I wanted to grow it years ago and it has a hard time getting started. When I do successfully get it started, it seems to stall before fruiting :(
Random question. I just pulled up the sweet potato harvest (1st time ever growing them). How does one cure sweet potatoes in the desert? Thank you, I love your channel, its wonderful to find a local desert gardener!!
Here in the West Indies in the tropics we call the roselle Sorrel makes a lovely liquor or wine & we call the coral vine Corlita vine as a little girl we had both the several shades of pink flowering one & gorgeous white flowering vine but somehow the white one are extinct here such a pity. Do you still have the white flowering coral vine? They are super At attracting tons of bees
I love the channel so quick question about the garlic planting them around brassica seems to be a good idea but what about watering I'm also doing square foot garden is it too much water that they'll get or can I plant them around my brassicas in a square foot garden
What height do you cut back your lemongrass to? I make small wreath like bundles with mine just like you. I have tried different ways to store it but this is the best way for making tea. I started with 1 small plant and had to devide it and now have 7 plants that are huge and may need to be devided again. It's starting to take over my garden 🤪 How often do you devide yours? I have 10 Roselle plants all at different stages, will definitely plant the same amount next year 😋. The Roselle and Lemongrass were the only plants that did well this summer for me.

So excited to get things planted this month. I love sugar snap peas and have planted so many but they aren't growing as well as I'd like. Small leaves and yellowish leaves. Any tips to get them going? Also, in your last video about the trellises, I thought I saw one of those bee houses for Mason bees or leaf cutter bees mounted on a wall. If so where did you get them?
It's been pretty hot for peas, they really prefer cooler weather. If your plants don't recover, plant again as temperatures fall. The mason bee house I have I got from Costco several years ago. Thanks for watching, best of luck with your garden!

Is it too late to plant citrus?
The best time to plant citrus trees in Arizona is in the spring after the danger of frost has passed (usually mid to late February). Citrus can be planted from this time through May. Do not plant citrus from June through September. A second planting window for citrus is in the fall from October through December.
