It then meant it knew that it would cause the SMG4 crew to fight amongst themselves while using the possessed Axol to then bring Mario to it. In a world filled with half-insane people like the SMG4 main cast, Zero must be very clever.
I like to believe that Luigi’s still alive (after all, he is Mario’s brother, and god knows what can kill him?) and will get an important role in the ark, but honestly, dying painlessly from a nuke is better than whatever Smg0 does to it’s victims.
The downside to living in a world on the wrong side of borderline insanity is that no one knows when you need help LITERALLY FIGHTING YOUR INNER DEMONS.

I've noticed that both times SMG0 had an avatar in his clutches, the other SMGs of that universe were nearby, and he did not start corrupting Mario in the 10 Year Anniversary Special until Zero had both SMGs captive. Could close proximity with a world's SMGs be required for Zero to kill an Avatar? Just a theory based on what I have noticed.
Or maybe he just wants other smgs to suffer as well. One of them did say something like "killing them won't change what happened to you" in the flashback episode so maybe he's taking revenge on the other smgs by torturing and killing their avatars in front of them?
