1) Niche 2) Brand 3) Campaign/Launch/Project 4) Individual assets you wrote 5) Number your assets to the order you want them to be read 6) Name the assets based on what type of copy asset it is
I have no idea about copyrighting, but I stumbled upon the thumbnail and passing through, after leaving this message - You have the cutest smile in the damn world. Have a nice day.
Those who thinking how they can built a portfolio without clients just go and rewrite the already written copies, or you can find out your potential clients products , do some research about their avatar , understand their brand tone and write the whole emial sequence, landing sales pages , ads for them .do this for 2-3 potential clients to make a good portfolio.
You have it inside of you, no need to compare, you are a creative source no one like you, your talented andwillingness to bring out the best in you ,your thinking will make it happen, stay on pace, never doubt you, I don't
I love how you make it this easy. Your explanation is precise and is everything i ever wanted to know before this but cant find the info nowhere. Tq so much!!
This is a really great video. It's really an eye opener. Currently exploring this field and stumbling across your video really made me think that I can do great on it.
The 'Updating sharing access' point was sooo important to discuss. It really shows that what you are saying has been practically done by you. Great video once again Alex. Rather than going for those fancy, vibrant portfolio websites that are difficult to navigate and slow to load, I think this method is quite professional and elegant.
Dang, girl… you’re hair looks so good! Just found your channel and am HOOKED! I’ve already watched like 6 or 7 vids and am so excited for each new one I find 🤗 I’ve learned *SO* much already 🎉🤓🥰
I just wanted to say thank you so much for what you share. I hope to take your course when I can afford to do so! You are so very generous with the information you share, and it really does bless people. Have a wonderful day Alex!
Hi Alex, can you make a video on what to include in a portfolio. As in do I include sales pages, or email samples or something else, how many of each? Do i make copies for the entire sales funnel of a single campaign?
I do talk about what you should ideally include in this video :) but if you're looking for something else you can check out this one: th-cam.com/video/8rbJ-mtdmzc/w-d-xo.html
Arrgh!! I've been doing it all wrong since the beginning of the transition (8/15/2021). I'd best get cracking on the re-boot as midnight 12/31/2021 is looming large on the horizon.
This video was helpful for an aspiring copywriter, thank you Alex. When creating samples for my portfolio, can I just create mock ups of 3 different pieces (sales page and 2 different kind of emails?) Since I don’t have any experience yet. I’ve taken your Write to Ignite Challenge! It helped me understand what goes into writing a sales page and I’m currently writing one as a sample to put in my portfolio. Thank you
This is so great and so simple. Thanks for the Pro-Tips! QUESTION - as a newbie creating a portfolio, should I be looking for/working with a designer to showcase my spec pieces? Is this essential? How do I go about finding one? I'd LOVE it if you made a video about design piece in portfolios. Cheers!
Hmmm... I would say no, that's not necessary at all. That's something you can worry about later (if you really want to) - but even then, it's not necessary to have a "pretty" portfolio in order to land clients.
Hello thank you very much for the tips, but quick question. How can I know that the client wouldn’t steal the copy and use it for his business and tell me that he doesn’t want me anymore?
Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing that. There are some preventative measures you could take - something like requiring 50% payment upfront or having them sign a contract.
Thank you so.much ma'am. For a novice this difficult to follow. Pls bring a version that shows the step by step icons to click in sequence using simple android phones to produce the display pattern and result or format on the screen. That will help us better. Thanks for the good job
Alex hi, beginner copywriter here. Thank you so much for your amazing videos. I've already learnt so much. A quick question. Don't we need to get clearance/OK from the clients before for add the copy we write for them to our portfolios?
As a best practice, it's always a smart move to ask first. Some clients might wish to keep themselves anonymous. But usually you won't encounter an issue -- unless they had you sign a nondisclosure agreement.
This is great! I just finished the OTI challenge and I want to include my emails in my portfolio. Should I include an executive summary for each project/campaign or just one as an over-all introduction to myself and the type of copywriting services I provide?
I would go with an overall one introducing yourself, why you love the brand you're sending your portfolio to, a brief summary of what's inside your portfolio, etc.!
I literally could give you warm hugs right now Alex. You are a blessing to the world of copywriting. I have been stuck with this problem for 3 days now. And here you are helping me with a solution. I really wish I could afford the Copyposse. Honestly. Maybe someday when I get a client and can afford it. I most definitely will. Just to learn from the best and give back too. In the meantime, I need to sort out my shabby portfolio and get a client. It's a tough race, but go to keep trying. Thanks, Alex, thanks a bunch.
Love this! A lot of the copy I've written is specifically Instagram captions-- any tips for how best to include those? Links to the feeds in a Doc? Screenshots of select posts?
Question because I've never shared a google drive folder link as a portfolio sample to a client: If I want to pitch to, say, 10 clients in a day, and I put each one's business name as the portfolio name before sending them the link... won't the link each one of them receives just reflect the name I last changed the portfolio to? As in client B would get the link and it would just have client A's name on it? Or am I missing something?
Also, would you recommend switching all of these assets to PDF before sharing with a client or is switching it to "Viewer" only good enough? Thank you!!
You're right! So you would want to send each client their own folder. Easier than it sounds because you can click "Make A Copy" and it will duplicate the folder - then you can customize each folder for each client. And I don't think it's necessary to convert to PDF. Just switch to "view only" should be good enough!
Thank you for the useful video. I've checked the program and is super expensive.. Have you ever considered doing smaller lead magnets for it? Sorry, if you already have them.. :)
Totally! However, there's only so much you can cover in a lead magnet. Check out this Confident Copywriter Roadmap: go.copyposse.com/ccr-ytd Be sure to browse the TH-cam Channel for tons of tips and tricks on copywriting!
Thank you Alex! But I have a concern if it would have any impact on company clients? As they seek professional portfolio in the form of a site with a domain name, so if I just create a google drive portfolio, will it have any negative impact on them ?
I am just starting out. . .I asked my 24 year old graphic designer son where I should create and save documents. You answered my question!!!!!! Plus, what an amazing, low stress, high quality way to create custom up-to-date portfolios. I am going to learn all I can from you.
Hello Alex, thanks for this awesome video. You nailed it like you always do. I have a question though, what's the best format for a portfolio, PDF or Word? I'd appreciate your response please.
Question: why would you send such a menu diving portfolio link such as Portfolio>Niche>Brand>Assets to a prospective employer for them to have to click through when you could just send them directly to a single document of 1 or 2 writing examples that is in the same niche as theirs? This way they don't have to navigate through a bunch of folders and instead get exactly what's relevant to them.
This portfolio is created specifically to allow a potential client to see that you are capable of writing an entire funnel. That's why there are multiple folders (for each type of asset). If, however, the potential client is only hiring you to write emails... then yes, you only need to send them email examples.
Thanks Alex! 😊🙏🏾 Quick question, how would you go about this if you’re applying for jobs on job postings? Would you leave the portfolio open and just copy and paste the link on your Resume? That sounds about right haha! Thanks Again! Super Helpful for up coming Copywriters.
Hi Alex, thanks for the great content! Question- do you recommend putting in document drafts as items in the portfolio as opposed to the published pieces (screenshots)?
Yes I wouldn't definitely put in the raw version as opposed to the published versions. Remember, when you're a writer it's not about aesthetics - it's about the words!
If these are our portfolio that we are sharing with a potential client so that they can see our sample work, how do we not show them which company or person we did the work for, Especially when there might be a client who's information, they do not want shared ? Thank you so much:)
Hi Alex, thank you for this great content. I have a question. I plan to build this portfolio while I’m building my website copywriting portfolio (using Wordpress or wix so I can add my squeeze page to it). Would you advise it’s okay to build both of them?
Thank you so much for this extremely helpful video! I noticed that your example portfolio has all of the assets in pre-published format. Do you see any value in providing links to the actual published assets? I have a blog getting published soon and wondering if I should just put the manuscript in the G-folder or put a link to the published asset.
I would be hesitant about that - mainly because websites change all of the time. A client might edit your copy 6-months or a year down the line and then you're sending along a public asset that's not actually representative of your work!
I've been listening to your videos, but I have one question that sounds like a bit of a niche question. How do you adapt all these tips for selling fiction or other forms of art? (I.e. movies, novels, comics, etc)
All the tips will apply basically the same exact way :) No matter what you're selling, you're still selling to humans. Which means the psychological triggers, hook, and conversion tactics are all the same

Please do you begin your executive summary, with a dear sir or maybe dear client.
Please how best do I begin your executive summary?
There is no one right way to start! :)
Your videos are really helpful
Hello, Is the executive summary like an "about me" section? Should be located in the main folder?
It can be! It is a summary of your experience, skill set and professional journey in relation to copywriting
Thank you ssooo much! 😍😍♥️♥️

Question because I've never shared a google drive folder link as a portfolio sample to a client:

Thank you Alex! But I have a concern if it would have any impact on company clients? As they seek professional portfolio in the form of a site with a domain name, so if I just create a google drive portfolio, will it have any negative impact on them ?
Thank you Alex, which is best for inserting your portfolio into each niches, is it screenshot of your writing or uploading pdf documents?
Pdf is better and more professional since it's an article! ✔️
I always save as a PDF and share that way!
I love you!
Pretty expensive Class, but I get the principle of the value.
I don't Have that money so I'm going to try to make it without the class.
My TH-cam channel has everything you need as long as your self-motivated :)
I am just starting out. . .I asked my 24 year old graphic designer son where I should create and save documents.

Hello Alex, thanks for this awesome video. You nailed it like you always do.
I have a question though, what's the best format for a portfolio, PDF or Word?

PDF is great!

WIll the @gmail be a hindrance when doing outreach as opposed to having a custom domain?
Not at all!
Excellent video, thank you
Thanks for watching!
amazing advice
If I have my writing samples as screenshots of webpages and emails I've written, is it better to put these in PDF format or are images okay?
Love you ma'am from India
Would you recommend putting a link to your portfolio on your resume if you don’t have any copywriting job titles to put on that resume?
Sure! It's good to show what you can do! :)
Yes! I would also suggest thinking about doing a customized portfolio for each application - where you include a personalized cover letter!
You don't need to include the names if you don't want to or if your previous clients are not comfortable. :)
Hi Alex, thank you for this great content. I have a question. I plan to build this portfolio while I’m building my website copywriting portfolio (using Wordpress or wix so I can add my squeeze page to it). Would you advise it’s okay to build both of them?
Of course! You can integrate them into one portfolio even.
Thank you so much for this extremely helpful video! I noticed that your example portfolio has all of the assets in pre-published format. Do you see any value in providing links to the actual published assets? What if the username is already taken can I add numbers to make it different and make the account or is that unprofessional and make companies less likely to hire me also does the brackets make it look professional or was that just an example?
Ideally you want your username to be memorable and consistent across your social media platforms.
The brackets are to show you where your chosen username will go. You aren't able to use brackets in username for most platforms.
Hey, Alex. Is it the right to add comments in order to show how this copy piece has been written and all about the section working process...?
Instead of adding comments (which can get messy). I would suggest creating an Executive Summary which you have them read first. Inside the summary you can include all the relevant information!
How can I send a code email out reach as a beginner
I don't really advocate for cold outreach techniques. They can come across as spammy and usually get ignored. Better to focus on building genuine connections with potential clients!
@Alex Cattoni I once heard it was illegal to send prospects writing samples you got paid for. Of course, I like creating samples from scratch anyhow, but I'm just asking.
It depends on your contract and terms of agreement with your clients. If they have you sign something saying not to share anything, then yes it would be illegal.
