My grandparents used to live next to the Lawn. As a kid I would be so excited watching over the fence as the entire show was put together. This would have been mid/late 80s/early 90s period. Their bungalow was on Station Road. It's no longer there, but was a perfect location to watch, plus be right next to the lawn and could walk there and back. I have some storied about that place lol RE their bungalow. It was on the grounds of what is now the Sutton Young People Centre/Notts Council (53.122346, -1.253108 pin of where it once stood). The large old house on that site that you can see on Google Maps used to be the owners of the large Mill that once stood next to the dam in the lawn. Dobsons Mews new estate is where the Mill was. I remember walking around it with my Grandad. In the basement of that large house is a tunnel entrance, and the tunnel went all the way to the mill. It should still be there, but I know the entrance at the house end was bricked up at some point.
Excellent footage, enjoyed this especially with the old dodgem track and Sobema Matterhorn, brings back alot of great memories having worked both these types of rides and more when travelling in the 1990's 👍
Thanks as always pal yes I also go back in time to the 80s 90s when I was active ,talking to one of the lads who worked on william Warwick spectrum skid that used to come to the local recreation ground where I lived when I was about 10 years old spent many hours watching that skid, memories, memories lol
@@ForeverFunfairsUK2520Fascinating story, yes so many happy memories of my local fairground as a kid, got under my skin that urge to travel with them when I left school was too great to resist and a whole new chapter began going full time 😀
I got into it because my mums uncle by marriage was a showman (William Bacon) he used to take me to goose fair when I was very young he owned and travelled a Ark, Gallopers and couple of stalls my Grandmar used to run one of the stalls at Goose to help out that's how I was drawn to the fair
It's amazing how a fairground can transform a sleepy park or village into a thriving metropolis of excitement for a few days and then when they pull it all down and move on, there's a sense of desolation about that same recreation ground.
