  • On Comic Book Herald’s interviews I’ll be interviewing some of my favorite creators in comics about specific runs, graphic novels or series, looking for their insights on the inspirations behind the work and ideas or hidden material readers may have missed. The goal is a fun guide to enjoying the intricacies and thinking in the art. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the comics!

    About Comic Book Herald:
My name's Dave, and Comic Book Herald is a labor of love designed to help new, lapsed, and curious comic book readers explore and enjoy the wonderful world of comics. I've been developing reading orders, chronology guides, and detailed comics recommendations since late 2011. Comics can be confusing and intimidating; I try to help.

Ennis coming back to more Punisher MAX would be a gift from God

I've always felt that The Punisher had been stagnating as a character for years before Ennis' involvement. The character up until that point had shifted from a Charles Bronson (80's), a Rambo (90's), or a fookin stoopid post-human angelic warrior (late 90's), which was clearly borrowing from Spawn.
I feel that Ennis also borrowed from popular culture for his vision, and his take was to make Frank into a sort of Jason Voorhees.
Utterly competent, utterly committed. So committed, in fact, that he manages to seem post-human again, but this time in an insanely cool way.
I love Ennis' work. He never fails to shock me, which I value deeply.
Best comic writer of all time? I think so, for me, at least. I'm not easily shocked.

Hearing Mr. Ennis say that he would write Punisher again tomorrow if he could makes me very optimistic! He is the definitive and most prolific writer of the character in my opinion!

I'd love to see a Punisher/Dredd crossover from Ennis in the future! 😎
His recent Rogue Trooper strip has been fantastic too, can't wait to read more of it! ❤

I just hope he leaves politics out of his future work. Complete disaster
