Ben Platt being cast as an anxiety ridden teen with a clarion like voice represents a once- in- a- blue -moon perfect marriage of talent and character on the musical Broadway stage. Musical theater historians will put this casting in the ranks of Zero Mostel as Tevye, Ethel Merman as Mama Rose, Joel Grey as the Emcee in Cabaret.. Its -the synergy of a unique three dimensional character on the page who sings and dances, with its perfect embodiment in talent that just happened to respond into a casting call... We are left to wonder if these musical hits would have had respectable three or 6 month runs, had those talents been elsewhere employed or recovering from a tonsilectomy instead.
@@Karkar124no they can’t bring Ben back he’s too old for the role now and not in the uk sadly but in the uk which lucky for me I’m able to see because they’re going on tour.
The way Evan interrupts and pushes Jared when he started talking to the Murphy's about the fundraiser 💔 it breaks my heart poor Jared. I never noticed that before. Now good for you makes more sense, Jered was really hurt, he may not be perfect, a perfect friend or person but he wanted to be a part of something too
@@ameliabrinker4814 Same it's not the same. This song rlly shows evans true motif and shows how selfish he could be using Connor for his personal gain. The imaginary Connor is just evans selfishness taking hold of him. Thought initially he was a good person with good intentions in the beginning he turns more selfish as the show goes on
I wish they had kept Connor's part in the story more fully in the film, especially for people who saw the film and think Evan is some kind of manipulative psycho. In the stage version he is pushed on by Connor's spirit. A great musical and a great film too.
i mean, in the movie, connor murphy (or his ghost) doesn't appear much except in sincerely me. connor doesn't really haunt evan throughout the rest of the movie so the first part of the song would kinda be weird unless they found a way for his ghost to come and sing. personally, i'd make connor appear in mirrors in the movie but oh well.. (correct me if im wrong, i watched the movie a long time ago)
@melonz29 that is true. I didn't think about the fact that he's hardly in it. I was just thinking about the facts that I absolutely love the song and I would've loved to hear Colton Ryan sing it. I think the mirrors could've been amazing! Now I'm thinking of all of the different meanings that could've represented!
Wait, I might be wrong, but at 3:44 there's a photo of Mike on the pamphlet and it kinda looks like it could be from that one Newsies interview. th-cam.com/video/3efJfC-GMEs/w-d-xo.html this one I think?
The Chad (giving him a lot of credit tbh) that was banging the girl I was into recently OD’d on fentanyl, as much as I disliked the guy I couldn’t help thinking of this song 😭
this song gives the right amount of genuine joy that no one asked for but everyone needed
Agree!

I HAVE NEVER NOTICED THAT BEFORE😭 it isssss, it’s from that tap interview
Probably the picture that looked the most like Connor🤷♀️
It sounds 'this up here' that the tree evan had climbed 😭
I know it's not relevant, but why is Evan wearing shoes on the bed at the beginning?

Filming during plays and musicals is very annoying to the people around you. Please stop doing it.
Youre the one watching it
