    The Preacher, answering Megan's wish.
*Pale Rider was primarily filmed in the Boulder Mountains and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in central Idaho, just north of Sun Valley in late 1984. The opening credits scene featured the jagged Sawtooth Mountains south of Stanley. Train-station scenes were filmed in Tuolumne County, California, near Jamestown.

Hey brother, I was also 11 Bush....with the 7th ID at Fort Ord, California(back when there still WAS a Fort Ord). 3/9 Manchus Bayonet!
Clint Eastwood was mayor of nearby Carmel during those days. It really was the best time of my life. Just didn't know it at the time.

The start was brilliant and all the rest for that matter :). I have access to the part you mentioned and will put it up in a month or 2. The trouble is the copyright owners do not accept/allow all uploads and YT sometimes will block and issue a strike against a channel. I will give it a go with a few other segments possibly soon.

    Revelation 19:11-16
The Rider on a White Horse
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Honestly, the man rides well. He sits deep and correctly, his hands are relaxed and do NOT pull or balance on the horses mouth, his hips and back can swing easily with the horses movement, and his legs are loose and wrap around the barrel. This lovely grey will do correct flying changes every 3 strides without mr Eastwood upsetting the horses balance or cadence. To just sit still and do nothing is 3/4 the battle.

Rusty Yates; True. Most people know that the horse is not white. A general term that is used. Facts about the horse's color:
The Dapples on this horse are called 'Star Dapples'. He was born black and turned grey in a spectacular way.

@@worldfilmclips1 i d not believe most people realize that the horse isn't white. Regardless ,its a remake of Shane, with some slight changes. I remember Clint had not made a western in quite awhile at that time. He made a classic when he did! I would like to have seen more westerns from him after that, he had really blossomed as an actor and director by then. Unforgiven was the only other one if I'm not mistaken. Would like to have seen at least one or two more
. He did go on to make some other other great movies though

Rusty Yates; Everyone is entitled to their opinion👍 but I disagree with that word 'remake' of Shane. What a lousy term to call Pale Rider. Clint said in a interview, (I believe from memory) that PR is a "Tribute" to Shane. A remake of Shane is false and downgrades PR. There're both 1st Class Movies in there own right👍.

    • @rustyyates421
      @rustyyates421 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@worldfilmclips1 it was a tribute but with some changes, the basic story is a remake of shane. It has all of the basic elements. Different characters but the same. Shane is a former gunfighter who wants to leave that lifestyle behind. Puts away his guns. Befriends a family. The woman is secretly attracted to him but loves the simple man she is with and chooses him over the gunfighter. A little boy is impressed with shane and looks up to him. In pale rider, its a young girl who is infatuated with him. In both movies they chase after the gunfighter as he rides away yelling his name. In both movies though the plot is different, the good honest folks are trying to be run off by a corrupt powerful individual who wants their land. He uses his men and ultimately brings in hired guns to run them out ,Jack Palance in shane, John Russell in pale rider. The gunfighter is compelled to take out his guns and help the people. There is a scene thats almost identical, one of the farmers in shane has had enough of being intimidated and goes to town only to be confronted and goatee into a fight in the streets by the hired gun, only to be killed of course. I could go on and on with the examples. Every little thing isn't exactly the same but the basic plot and types of characters, qualifies it as a remake much like John Wayne did with Eldorado and another movie he did about 10 years later rio bravo or Rio lobo, the second movie name escapes me. Its a remake but with some slight changes.

I don't like Pale Rider, and that horrible scene is one reason why: The "Peace Sign" grave marker, the faithless and irreverent prayer, the stunning ungratefulness of Meghan, the heavy handed biblical allusion to the Pale Horse of the Revelation.
I think people like movies based on their own personal morality. All art reflects the zeitgeist of the times. The villains in older westerns had a greater morality than the anti-heroes of Revisionist and modern westerns. You're not learning about the frontier West from movies (and shouldn't be) you're being brainwashed with the director's morality.
Eastwood movies tend to suffer from the High Noon effect: everybody in town is a wimp except Eastwood, which is Revisionism at its worst. John Wayne called this effect the most unamerican thing he'd ever seen. Frontier people were far from being wimpy, and had to be for obvious reasons.
Then there's the lack of verisimilitude in the depiction of gold mining (in this case, placer mining) techniques, work ethic, and character of gold miners; its enough to make real placer miners, like myself, laugh. Which leads me to the contrived smashing the boulder scene which is either an homage to or total theft from Shane (where its a tree stump that symbolises the cooperation in removing the rancher). The device is used and reused in Shane to better effect. Then there's the wife And daughter falling in love with Eastwood. Where its platonic in the case of the boy in Shane and morally restrained in the case of the wife, its sexual in Pale Rider, which is a sign of the immoral and tawdry sixties. Then there's another ripoff from Shane at the end where Meghans declarations of love echo off the mountains---again, used to less effect. The director's advice seems to be: watch Shane, it's a far better movie, and my pick for Best Western ever.

Wrong the miners were shown to be stout hard working bit faced by a more powerful entity and armed as they really only had little to defend....I respect your opinion but it's off. This movie is accurate on so many levels. Family's God fearing To boot we're just like this. Working with There hands to make a simple life for themselves..Freed shown well from the other side... Overcoming often means outside influences. Eastwood just like in all of his movies shows true human nature all of it. Literally the Good bad and ugly of what's inside us all
Realistic true to nature, Eastwood is one of the the Best story tellers of all time and this great classic Defines that Well. John Wayne far from a saint isn't the best person to speak of when Eastwood is his supior. The Duke will always be the Duke but Eastwood is Kinh

Only thing I lightly disagree about is that Clint is his superior. Different eras, styles. I used to love watching Wayne's movies on the weekends in the 60's... Nice final sentence of yours "The Duke will always be the Duke but Eastwood is Kinh" 👍.
