i love the first rayman i have the greatest hits + brain games graded and a sealed rayman gold with the 3d model and the one with the normal model sealed big box
There’s 7 versions of rayman 1, I’d go for ps1 cause it’s the original version and it’s available on most PlayStation devices. Sega Saturn is good too though some tracks are removed and there’s a few minor additions like screen transitions after beating a level. Atari Jaguar is the only unique version, music is different, there’s no ice physics and some levels are removed though there’s some levels that are exclusive to this version. Since we finally have a good jaguar emulator it wouldn’t hurt to try it. Pc isn’t good in my opinion as it moved the cages in different areas, and some of them are in cryptic spots. It fixed some of the nitpicks in the level design but I don’t think it’s worth it for the cages alone. GBA is a port of the pc version, not worth playing cause of the screen crunch, rayman is already a big sprite, he takes up 1/4 of the screen. And dsi and ios you don’t have to worry about cause those versions are no longer available.
Yeah play the PS1 one. But on a PS1 emulator, so that you have save states, because Rayman 1 is redonkulously hard. The devs didn't have time to playtest the game before release and so the later levels are all just stupid difficult. But with save states it's a lot more fair and manageable. Cos yeah otherwise it's the hardest 2D platformer I've ever played, and I grew up with stuff like the Lion King games on SNES and mega drive, and things like that. I never got far into Rayman back in the day, but save states, plus watching tutorial videos for some sections of levels, really helped. The worst world to me was always the music world. Because it's literally the worst ice physics level you'll ever play. Cos it's not only got ice physics everywhere, but bloomin trumpets blowing you along so you travel 100 ft backwards along the slippery ice, constantly, and often right into spikes or pits that immediately kill you. It's still very fun, despite all that, so I never stopped playing it when I had a ps1 in the 90s, but yeah, unless you're a masochist, you'll wanna play using save states.
Well I like both games really. I like designer cause I find it fun to speed run the levels, I just wish there was an easier way to make levels. For redesigner I mostly recommend it not because the level editor is easier to understand but mainly because it’s easier to access on modern hardware.

So... How many versions of Rayman 1 are there and which one is a newcomer supposed to play in order to get the full experience?
