Separated at birth, they didn't know each other. Screech took on the characteristics of his father (violent behavior) and Jenny, the characteristics of her mother (quiet and frozen in fear).

You don't really know who their father is. While it could be Stevie, it is also possible that Violet was already pregnant when she left home at 16. We don't know how long the whole thing took.

Yea, Ren is on a different level. I've been blown away ever since I heard Hi Ren a few months ago. And the Tale of Jenny and Screech is just mind blowing. The writing, the music, the performance--it's nothing I've ever seen before. He's so good. And that he does it all in one take. I heard they recorded Violet's Tale 14 times to get it. The dedication to do that is also just next level. Loved your reaction!

Ren is an artist for sure. You never know what you will get when you listen to one of his songs for the first time. You just know you will be walking away from it looking at life just a little bit differently.

You should imagine him with a Lute, wandering through Mediaeval England, spreading the news and stories to the People!

  • @walkerig1
    @walkerig1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

IMHO the "Tale of Jenny and Screech and Violet's Tale" is a Three Act Shakespearian Tragedy, in the style of the wondering minstrel bard. Ren has self identified his music as bard core, so that is confirmed.
This is an ancient style of music; that goes right back through the wondering minstrel bards of the middle ages. The works of Chaucer sung in the Wife of Bath's ale house. And back to the Dark Ages of Anglo Saxon epic poetry of Beowulf, on through the Greek Homeric tales of The Iliad and The Odyssey and the beginning of the Choir. As Ren shows the music acts in part as interlude/intro as well as melodic emphasis and sound effects for the story.
This form of story telling probably goes all the way back to Ugg twanging his Bow to woo the Chiefs Daughter. Or to complain about the Chief stealing the meat from his hunt, at the hut of the local Widow Ale Wife, where he and others would congregate to let off steam and tell tales of epic hunts. And the perhaps to draw on the local cave walls the tale of their hunt while singing acting and dancing out their day. And even to this day you see the graffiti on the walls as Ren acts out and performs "The Tales.
As a sound engineer I spotted Ren's use of locational reverb as found sound. Something a stone age performer shaman would recognise and that has been shown to have occurred in ancient megalithic architecture and among the few still existing hunter gatherer societies that are studied by anthropologists today. They also got lucky with the Seagulls in part of the song which then was deliberately left in and emphasized in the mix. I think that what was done in the tales calls to that ancient genetic heritage we all have.
All of it indicates the intellectual level of the performance production in this piece that makes it true art.

Well said. When he got out of the hospital room and into the tale of Violet I am so locked in by that point and got a sense of how powerful musical storytelling can be and must have been back to ancient times. The Pied Piper for a new generation- I would have followed for hours.

    • @lunadyana3330
      @lunadyana3330 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Well said. I've always said he's the wandering minstrel, the fool in the kings court, who is the only one allowed to mock the royals and criticize the realm. The truth-teller, the idiot-savant, the voiceof the people. This music has a medieval, or maybe a Renaissance vibe. Probably the latter, Ren-naissance sounds more appropriate, but indeed it does go back to the primitive, to the camp fire, and to the shamans sharing sacred knowledge via storytelling

The idea that history repeats, generational trauma is big. Violet had an abusive father and then found an abusive mate, he killed her assuming he went to prison moms dead dads locked up so the twins would have been orphaned. Adopted maybe but more likely in the foster system, jenny was 14, wearing high heel shoes, makeup and walked these streets 1000 times, screech followed in his fathers footsteps without ever knowing him. So many bars to break down once you get the full story.

You did it in the correct order. We really shouldn't ask for more!
God asked those bards gathered around, "Who has a tragedy for me?"
Sophocles stands up and says, "May I present you Oedipus Rex."
Shakespeare chuckles under his breath and cries out, "Where for art thou Romeo?"
To both Sophocles's and Shakespeare's astonishment Ren pulls out his guitar and begins The Tales.

Congrats on 200k subs Britt! Great reaction, your face at the "reveal" was a picture! Yep, these are one shot videos, so any mistake, they film from the start again. Shout out to Sam for brilliantly shooting these. On an interview, Ren said that they complete a few of these takes, one had for him, a perfect ending since the clouds burst and it poured with rain right at the finale. However, this chosen version was by far the best overall. He's a unique genius, covers so many genres. Not sure if you've covered his busking, his duets/collabs, his band The Big Push, it's a proper rabbit hole!

yes you got alot of jist of it, its about the cycle of trama and abuse, if you notice violet was silent , she shut down, quiet, non resposive, and her little pick stevie, was violent and explosive uncontrollabally, and so you see it in their children even though we gather they were placed in the system more then likely due to their father killing their mother, and didnt know each other, screech is like his father, and violet it like her mother she froze when he robbed her and he snapped n killed her, he says like a statue in high heels shoes, and so on, also wanted to point out a few amazing small things i dont know if you knoticed about this, like in the beginning the song starts with the hospital rymithic beats , you talked about but dont think you heard them before saying it, you just thought about it, but also he used his guitar to rewind the hands of time, the sound , then fastforward when he brought you back to the present moment in the song, and did you see how he used the hallway and the stairway for the accustics , so smart and inventive and mindful about his sorrounding hes not on a different level hes a a completely updated system, lol

Even if Ren doesn't mind any rando on the internet can report it for copyright and it gets hidden. Then a message is sent to the original creator who has to respond and give it the green light. Then YT has to unhide it. That could be some time that the reactor's video is not getting views and the YT algorithms are seeing that as an unwatched video.

The three-part story really loses traction when its split up into 3 parts, I wish you had watched all three at the same time as is the norm for most reactors. Violet was abused as a child by her father and because of that she became submissive and quiet. She died giving birth to twins, so the babies would have been placed into the system as the father/Stevie would have been locked up for murder. Screech was violent like his father, and Jenny was quiet and submissive like her mother. Jenny was walking the streets at 14 years of age, in high-heeled shoes and rouge on her face, as she had a thousand times before, she could have been a prostitute. Screech killed his sister without ever knowing she was his sister, The babies took on the same traits as their parents.

It’s called a 1 take but yes, they have to do it over and over to get the perfect take. The camera work has to be choreographed and performed perfectly and Ren has to perform the music part perfectly. It’s amazing what they accomplish regardless of how many times it takes them. Ren brings so much... in the darkest moment I relate... in his happiest moments I remember. Absolutely my fav artist of 2023 and into -24. That he topped the UK charts without a damn label signing.. he and his team frickin WON. And w that success he's able to employ more to his cast, he's afforded better equipment, more hires, more possibilities. The man himself is a talent that is among the best I have seen... and his crew is so dialed in. How a person can so easily flip between characters, can write about my darkest moment and then bring the happiest moment... I know I'm blessed to witness in real time. Peace and Lover darlin' as Always.

the videos for Jenny's Tale and Screech tale, were filmed in alleys one block apart. In keeping with the story. Violet's tale ends on the crossroad the passes by those alleys.
It also gives more tragic news than can be conveyed on YT. The best I can do is ask questions to get your mind thinking about it.
Why would he call her a liar? Because he knew the timing was off? It's couldn't have been him? Who would it have been then? Tragic.
Also, Jennys Tale contains more clues about Her than people catch the first time through... walking the street late at night, like a thousand times before, wanting to escape, high heeled shoes, rosey(makeup) on her cheek, bust her in the breath after saying chest the line before hints at partial exposure. Tragic.
Even more tragic, you can tell how a boy child is a murder, but you aren't allowed to discuss other topics in the same age group. Social Stigma keeps us mum.
The thing people forget is Ren starts and ends his songs like this with a "recap in reverse".
So, it would make sense that he'd use this to show How the other two songs were a pre-recap.

yes, "Screech" killed his sister in a failed mugging.
he didn't know she was his sister because with Violet dead and Steevie in prison for her murder, the twins would have shuffled into the foster system and probably separated.
The twins took after their parents (and violets parents)
Violet was abused by her father, mother stayed silent
Violet was a quiet girl, Steevie abused eventually murdered her
Screech inherited violent tendencies from his father and grandfather
Jenny inherited silence from his mother and grandmother and that silence would get her killed when confronted by male violence

The story is quite straightfoward. Violet grew up in unfortunate circumstances. Suffering years of abuse from the one man who was supposed to protect her. To cope she instinctively took on the mechanism she learned from her mother who was no doubt being abused as well, silence. Close your eyes and pretend it isnt happening. As soon as she was old enough to made a run for it but unfortunately fate would lead her directly into the arms of somthing very similar. Maybe she was just unlucky, or maybe we are destined to seek out that which we know, in violets case that was more physical abuse. Im sure violet had accepted her unfortune at this point but dreamed that although it was unattainable for her maybe their could be a chance for her children. Maybe if she raised them, and taught them right from birth to never accept abuse, never to hurt people, maybe just maybe they could have the life she never did. One night while violet was startled by the sound of an angry stevie making his way to the bedroom violet closed her eyes and thought about her children, her attempts to seek refuge from the violence only maybe stevie angrier. At the hospital violet would use her final breath on earth to plead for the life of her children before slipping off into death. I wonder if her last thought was that hopefully her death wouldnt be in vein, hopefully her death would close the loop and the cycle of abuse that she was born into would end with her and her children would start a new.
Sadly, the trauma she inherited from her mother and suffered over the course of her short life was not done yet. It would be passed down to her unborn children making them victims before they ever took their first breaths.
The two babies, having been born to a deceased mother and incarcerated father would be placed in child custody, wards of the state. In the states we designate those without names as John and Jane doe. In London James and Jenny. The orphanage was overcrowded and underfunded. To help facilitate an adoption the siblings were seperated, sent to facilities only miles apart, but it might as well have been an ocean, the two would grow up with no knowlege of the other. The foster care system was not kind to the siblings, no doubt presenting its own forms of abuse. As teenagers they both left the foster progam, choosing to live on the street, jenny would walk the streets in highhealed shoes looking for men with low inhibition and money to spend. As she removed her clothes and prepared to be touched by men much older than her she instinctively closed her eyes and stayed silent, no one taught her to do it, it was just somthing instinctively inside of her. James was on the other side of town, surrounded by killers and theives, medicating away his pain with weed and pills, hand on his knife waiting for the next person to find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time. He hated the name james, so his friends called him screech, or the sound the cop cars make whenever they see him on the corner. From his conversation with patricks door i dont think screech ever intended to murder jenny. But when he was ordering her to enpty her pockets their was somthing about her reaction, about the way she just stood there frozen, and silent, that enraged him. He was confused, no doubt, he doesnt even know this chick, she hasnt done anything to him accept stand there silently, but somthing deep down inside the far reaches of his pysche had been triggered. He squeezed the handle of his knife and as if it was his fathers hand instead of his guided the blade repeatedly towards the throat of the silent girl who stood in front of him.
I dont think james thought he would stab his way throuhh the entire london police force and survive. I think james wanted to die. I think deep down despite not knowing his victim i think he instinctively knew he had done somthing truly horrific. He knew that he was simply perpetuating somthing awful and so he drew his knife on the police and accepted his fate.
Its an amazing tale of generational trauma and cycles if violence and abuse. About free will and determism.
But i also think their is another theme that Ren was exploring.
The idea that life is not like hollywood. That sometimes in life their are only tragedies annd no happy endings.
When you look at the tale of jenny screech and violet their are many characters, but no happy endings.
Violets parents lost their daughter and grandchildren. No doubt blaming themselves for their daughters unfortunate end.
Violet left the world in agony and pain.
Stevie was sent to prison for life after accidentally murdrring his girlfriend and unborn children.
Screech met his demise at the barrel of a gun and died alone in the street
Jenny was repeatedly stabed and slashed by the one man who was supposed to protect her. She died alone in the street.
Richard the straping young police offer with a bright future was tormented by the trauma he suffered when he took the life of a 14 year old boy. He quit the police force and never touched a gun again for the remainder of his life. He has suffered from alcohol abuse and two failed marriages.
The doctor and surgeon never forgot what they saw that night. They tell themsleves that they did the best they could but the vision of the 14 year old girl gurgling blood and pleading for them to save her babies life is seared into their coollective memory.
Patrick still blames himself for james suicide. Maybe if he had been there to answr the door he could have hidden his friend and kept him alive. He thinks about him every day.
The girl who answred the phone shares in his regret. Why did she say she was busy? James needed her and she wasnt there for him.
No happy endings. Pain, violence, abuse, suffering. We all like to imagine that no matter what happens in life that at the end of the day their will always be a hero and a victim, a bad guy and a good guy, the hero will defeat the evil and kiss the girl.
Or like ren says at the end of Hi Ren "i shouted out that i would deafeat the forces of evil"
Its naive of us to think this way because we are all human beings, so we all posess evil and good inside of us, and somtimes the pendulum swings in such a way that the darkness becomes so dark it envelopes us and everything around us, untill theirs nothing left and everyone is gone.

Great to see you go into this reaction, Britt. I'm glad I watched the trilogy all at once, but it's fine that you think you needed to process each of them. You hit all the elements I hope to see people appreciate about Ren: the writing, the performance, the camerawork, the style, the rawness of life for so many these days. These days...there are so many incredible artists doing amazing work in their own uniquely incredible ways. Jacob Collier, who never seems to have gotten in his own way with music; pure joy. Dimash Qudaibergen, technically the best singer any of us are likely to ever hear (and a great multi instrumentalist), blessed with the most incredible range and possessed of an ambitious artistic sense. Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Mike Dawes, Sarah Jarosz, Chris Thile... others I don't know or never even heard of.

I may be repeating info as I haven't read all the comments here. But form comments on other reactions and the original videos I've heard many speculations...
Jenny was also 14 years old walking the streets late at night, in high heels, rosy cheeks, and a dress. Walked them 1000 times before and she knew them well. Jenni's response to danger was to freeze up and go silent just like her mother. Patrick and Screech's girlfriend were both unavailable, possibly because they were together that night and didn't want Screech to know. Jenny sensed something as she approached the corner where she saw Screech and twins are sometimes noted to have some kind of extrasensory connection where they can feel somethings about their sibling(s).
Now to the really shocking bits... What if Stevie was so angry at Violet because they hadn't been together long enough for her to be 9 months pregnant? What if Violet's twins were a product of the abuse she received before moving out of her parents' place at 16. Stevie calls her a liar and "promiscuous" in his alcohol and drug induced rage. Screech's insanity could then be a result of inbreeding?

I've been waiting SO LONG for you to do this!! Thank you! Now you know why Renegades show out for their boy. 😂
You know at the beginning where Ren "rewinds time" and stands up? If you notice, he shakes himself, takes a breath, and starts the song. He has said that was because he had to get "into character" to tell such an awful story. It hurt for him to live the story while he sang the song.
You also had the same reaction I did to pinching the eyelids and lifting them up - pure evil.

I thought of the pause and the effort to bring himself to a capable place to "dance for the king" perform a tale he doesn't emotionally want to keep doing. Totally got that bard vibe where he is forced.
I take from it that it was intentionally done to make people understand that we need to discuss the uncomfortable things if we want to stop history from repeating itself

Ignore those telling you that you needed to do all three at once. As long as you do them in order, it's perfectly fine. Remember that there was a few years between each one and the fans who watched the trilogy when it first came out had no real problem following the story (albeit helped by his Insta and social media 'trailers' that lead up to the release of each one). A few days between each one is fine - I'm sure you have a longer memory than a goldfish!

14:00 My take is that they both "went down the wrong path." Their mama is dead and their daddy was probbaly in jail, so they grew up separated, and in really bad circumstances.... But take note that Jenney walked the streets at night 1000 times "in high healed shoes." She is also 14, and she wanted to "escape" whatever it was that she was doing.... Come on, I've never heard any reactor say it, but Ren is telling us that she was a street hooker at age 14. Also I wish you could connect these 3 vids as one, someone is going to see this one first and sort of ruin the experience....

Screech came out in 2019. He says Screech is 14yo. 2019 - 14 = 2005. In Jenny's tail, I feel like she is older, but Ren never gave her age. Violets tails was written years later and he made them the same age. It works but I still feel like Jenny is older.
