WOW it’s beautiful! The anxiety when you realised you had sewn it incorrectly BUT I knew you’d work it out quickly and fix it lol! Love it on you. Awesome colour too. Yes, a Japanese series would be fantastic Janelle. Great video, downstairs is looking great!
Love this Janelle, the fabric choice is perfect, a plain fabric has allowed all the details to be seen, by the way, I’ve been sewing since my teens and I’m now 69 and I still make the odd mistake. ✂️💕🪡
Oh Janelle it is so beautiful and I agree more Japanese sewing please. How many of us were yelling at tge TV - STOP Janelle the collar is the wrong way!! 😂 But you rescued it fabulously!
I was gasping and wishing I could travel back in time to stop you from sewing the collar wrong! But it came out beautifully ♥️. I don't think it needs ties.
Yes, please do more Japanese sewing videos. I checked out a Japanese garment sewing book from the library but realized I dont have the skills (new to garment sewing). So maybe that would help me to have the courage to give it a go. Im usually a quilter and bag maker. Thanks Janelle.
This pattern would be fun to make hacks on. Use the bodice and add different fabric on bib to match the skirt part with gathers or not. Yes, please more Japanese patterns!!! Found this one very interesting. You wear it very well ❤🎉❤
@@GarmentofPraiseSewing Yes, embroidery!!! A delicate heart in the center. Another option is a lace inlay on the bib. Just thought of that. Between the 2 of us she has her work cut out for her 😂
My goodness! You are intrepid! And I felt your pain when you had to unpick the collar! But beautifully done and so pretty on! Yes, please, more Japanese patterns! Oh, and your garden in the rain was enchanting!
I would love to see a video on the blouse as well! I would get overwhelmed by the layout of the patterns. So fun to see the process of taking on this new challenge and project.
Thanks for an inspirational video! The dress looks stunning on you! I already have quite a few Japanese design/sewing books and as a person who tends to love books, I am a little bit curious of the title on the book you used. If I presumable would like to purchase it 😊, most probably. 🙈 I’d also like to see you sew more models in a series, looking forward to see your next one❤️
I'd love to see more of these! I'm impressed you were able to trace the pattern..that looks like chaos. I love how it turned out and that color is beautiful! It looks so cozy and comfy!
It's gorgeous!! I think the skirt fit the bodice because the extra fabric would have been pleated up in the missing pleat; the skirt just would have been fuller. Your mistake with the collar makes me feel better, because I've done those things too often; sometimes, fixable, sometimes not! :) Love the style, including the full shape; I don't think you need to bring it in at all. Please do show us more of the Japanese patterns!
This dress is so sweet the way it is. It looks great on you without ties. Like you said it's totally different from anything in your collection. Looking forward to more!!
I really felt it when you sewed the collar piece backwards! My literal nightmare! So glad you made it work. I have my own Japanese pattern books but haven't actually made anything so you have inspired me to pull them out!
yesss please more japanese sewing ! i am currently making a skirt from a sewing book i bought last summer, it is super easy but this book specifically did not come with patterns templates ! and i have the same problem with the fact that i brought back tons of fabric but most of them are not enough to make most of the pieces from the books haha.
Dear Janelle, I am currently in Osaka, where I have bought several pattern books and I have visited the wonderful DUA store, which you already recommended in another video. You don't know how excited I am to watch this episode of your channel right at this moment. Thank you very much for everything you do. It couldn't be more timely, interesting and, as always, wonderful.♥
The Japanese patterns would be good for an office environment. They aren't too casual and have a higher neckline. The dress is nice. Women who embroider or crochet would love that collar.
Ah this is so gorgeous! I would definitely watch a series of Japanese silhouettes with Japanese fabrics. I've been wondering why I've been avoiding watching your sewing videos when I love your style - I just realised it's because I'll get inspired to start sewing and I already have too many crafts I'm learning atm. So tempting though, really lovely dress! 😂💛
I love 💕 your new dress. I would love to see more Japanese dresses. You are a great dressmaker. 😊You make it look so easy which encourages me to attempt making a garment myself. I look forward to your videos every Sunday morning. It is always exciting to see what you are going to show us next Many thanks ❤
Yes, I saw that mistake coming too! Would love a series on using Japanese patterns. I have one of the magazines you have and now feel much more confident to use it. The patterns are so stylish and unique.
LOVE the light in your new outside sewing space, it's going to be a gorgeous room. Beautifully made dress & great job of saving the neckline. I've made some big mistakes like that also, appreciate you including that bit. Such a cute dress!
Hi Janelle. The dress looks fantastic just the way it is. Oversized is the fashion trend. And no need to worry if you've just had a large dinner.🙄☺️. It looks cool and breezy. Stunning! ☺️
It's really cute, Janelle! I hope you keep it as is- the architecture of the dress is so interesting and adding waist ties will change the design intent, I think. Of course, you have to do what is best for you, but honestly, it is really lovely as is. Thanks for this video- I've always been curious about the Japanese pattern books.
I so enjoy your videos. This episode was of interest to me because I like the Japanese patterns quite a bit. I love that you work around yardage issues and din’t give up!
Pleats aren’t bad, you did just fine. 👍 I always mark mine at the top within the seam line. I use an arrow >< for direction and a small mark for where it is to meet. Then you don’t see the marker. I pin if I am making something in which the pleats are sewn down, so I can pin where it needs to stop. Pleating takes a lot of material, but so does gathering. 🫣😬 Your dress looks beautiful. ❤👍
I've been looking for a sailor collar dress sewing pattern for so long and am going to purchase this book to make this one! (Found the book on Etsy). Thanks so much for sharing this video, hopefully I can follow it as my instructions :) I do have a vintage Laura Ashley sailor collar dress sewing pattern which is very similar but has a drop waist which I'm not a fan of!
I'm jealous of your windows.... I love that sewing room even though it's pretty small, those windows! 😍😍 My house has almost no windows. I feel like I live in a cave.
The dress suits you ... Very cute..when you were pinning the collar and facing I noticed the seam allowance...awww don't we all hate having to fix our mishaps.
Yay well done! The patterns can be overwhelming , I usually stick the whole thing on to a wall and highlight the corners for the pieces I need with a highlighter before tracing , hope that helps
Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, the Japanese patterns and instructions are very meticulously done, with numbers to help with the order in which it must be done, and the illustrations are very clearly drawn. On the drawing we can see that the sailor collar was put reverse side on the body right side. I understand that read the Japanese can be a hurdle, but in fact it is easier than you would think.
Love it! I wouldn't put ties on it and just enjoy the comfort of the fullness. I would enjoy more videos of the Japanese style outfits. I have made a few myself and yes the patterns can be very confusing to trace out but worth it.
This turned out so well! I’m in the process of putting pleats in a daisy pattern dress b/c the gathered waist didn’t look right with my body/age. (Or maybe I’m not used to the look of a gather around my waist?) Nice work with this & it looked fun. I can’t believe you were able to decipher anything with that pattern page! 😄
I love this dress! Please do a whole Japanese series! I would love for you to make a similar pattern that we can purchase. Thank you and I think you are amazing.
The dress is lovely and I’d love to see you make more. I have made item from Japanese accessory sewing and knitting patterns and the illustrations are great. Two suggestions - Google Translate is great for translation pattern instructions when you need more details and a Japanese hold punch helps transfer pattern makings. Can’t wait to see what you make.
Loved this video and I would love to see more sewing Japanese patterns. Japanese fashion can be so feminine in such a different way than we have here in the US. Great job.
Great work! I started sewing at a community centre and all patterns were shared so absolutely no cutting them. I got clear builders plastic and traced my patterns on. The plastic is so durable and you can clearly see every line and every marking. And when you put them on the fabric you can easily pattern match on the fabric.
The style of this dress is stunning! And you made pleats less scary! I would love to see more Japanese pattern videos. I have two sewing pattern books by Nani Iro and they are printed without seam allowance markings - oof! I’d love to know if you have any patterns that don’t have the seam allowance and how you add that.
It turned out beautifully! I bought a book of Japanese patterns last year. I would love to see you make more. The metric thing is going to be tricky for this American!
The dress is fabulous and looks beautiful on you! The fabric is perfect for that design. I have a couple of these books that I bought online, but have never attempted as of yet, as I currently wear a much larger size. I am encouraged by your success and may give it a go now. I would love more videos on this! Great job Janelle! Hugs from Cincinnati Ohio.
Stunning! And a brilliant save! It is so beautiful. I wouldn’t add ties! I think the view of the pleats at the back would be missed up. As it is at the moment is very distinctive.
I'm so glad you did this, I picked up a Japanese pattern book for menswear last year, I haven't been brave enough to attempt anything yet. Those over printed pattern sheets are very intimidating
I’ve been eyeing off these books for a while and always been too nervous to try sewing one , your gorgeous dress has convinced me to give it a try. I’ve bought my first pattern book online . 😀
your dress turned out beautifully! I would be put off by all the overlapping lines on the master pattern :) It would be great to see a series of Japanese styles that you make from the books
Living in Korea, seeing the pattern, I instantly thought "Ah, it's a "free size" pattern." Buying clothes in Asia as a South African, is constant trial-and-error. Luckily, maternity-wear here is a similar style to your pattern and lots of pinafores...bonus during the summer's humidity!😅
The dress turned out amazing and looks beautiful! Linen pleats so nicely. Yes, please do more Japanese sewing pattern videos! You should make more pleated dresses. Have you thought about making the dress without the collar?
Love this dress, great save of the collar/facing seam. We all have these moments of sewing face palm, kudos for showing it and the save. Please make the blouse too, I’ve wanted to try Japanese Drape Drape book patterns. So good to see a Japanese pattern book in use.
Looks lovely, I love the Japanese designs. The pleats look fab, I use pleats instead of gathering when I make a ‘baby Doll’ style dress they are so much easier to do and look really good. Yes please do more videos with these patterns, they really are beautiful.
I really love the look of Japanese garments. I never thought I would look good in them but now I think it could work. My husband is 1/2 Japanese and we have a few decor items in our home.
One tip I learned when I first started overlocking was to buy a couple of neutral thread colours rather than white or black. So I got natural and light grey and dark grey. They don’t stand out as much as white on your coloured items.
What a beautiful dress, I remember having many dresses with sailor neck when I was a child and I loved them! Enjoy your new creation and I would love to see more Japanese style dresses, they are so cute💞
You are so talented and have so much determination. Life is life sh* happens. Your excitement is contagious. I am fortunate to own a thrifted Necchi machine mainly used for thrift adjustments.
Please, more sewing from your Japanese pattern books! I’m so jealous, that dress is gorgeous!!
I love that you didn't edit out your mistake. I've been sewing for a long time and I still make mistakes. It just happens. I love the dress.
Hehe it was a tense time to be sure 😅 Soo happy it worked out fine in the end!!
Omg I was yelling at my screen to flip the collar over 😭
I like doing pleats much more than gathering. Pleats in linen are the most beautiful thing! Lovely dress, Nice work!
I think the dress is exactly as designed! No need at all for side straps!! Looks so cute on you!
Yes please to make this a series! Love this dress.
I agree 🎉
Love this Janelle, the fabric choice is perfect, a plain fabric has allowed all the details to be seen, by the way, I’ve been sewing since my teens and I’m now 69 and I still make the odd mistake. ✂️💕🪡
Oh Janelle it is so beautiful and I agree more Japanese sewing please. How many of us were yelling at tge TV - STOP Janelle the collar is the wrong way!! 😂 But you rescued it fabulously!
Would love to see you try more Japanese patterns!
Absolutely love the pattern yes please to more of these,
I was gasping and wishing I could travel back in time to stop you from sewing the collar wrong! But it came out beautifully ♥️. I don't think it needs ties.
love the dress, and yes I would love to see more of them
I love the dress, good job
I just love this dress! Please definitely make more from the pattern catalog.
I love that collar, so interesting how cute it turned out. You go girl!!!
You wear it very well ❤🎉❤
Yes, I thought the same thing….some embroidery also would make this pop. Love 💕 this!
@@GarmentofPraiseSewing Yes, embroidery!!! A delicate heart in the center. Another option is a lace inlay on the bib. Just thought of that. Between the 2 of us she has her work cut out for her 😂
Lovely to see a mother fellow lefty, I also cut with my right hand. Your are so talented and creative!
On my comment it should read another not mother ! Silly phone!ipad!
My goodness! You are intrepid! And I felt your pain when you had to unpick the collar! But beautifully done and so pretty on! Yes, please, more Japanese patterns! Oh, and your garden in the rain was enchanting!
Oh I was yelling at the screen "You've got the collar up the wrong way" I am so glad you fixed it ok. Looks gorgeous on you. 🌸🐨🌸
I was also shouting at the screen 😂. So frustrating for you Jonelle

I would love to see a video on the blouse as well!
I would get overwhelmed by the layout of the patterns. So fun to see the process of taking on this new challenge and project.
Oh yes the white blouse w puffy sleeves. Dramatic and simple , enchanting.
Gorgeous. Fabric choice is perfect. Yes. Would love to see a series of sew alongs for these.

Such a beautiful dress! So glad you could save the neck and finish because wow it's so different and yet so you!
The dress is gorgeous... love it, please make more. I bought the same pattern book in Malaysia because of the cover too.
I didn't catch the title of the book. would you mind telling us, pls? I'm dying to get a digital copy
It's gorgeous!! I think the skirt fit the bodice because the extra fabric would have been pleated up in the missing pleat; the skirt just would have been fuller. you can never get enough of japanese sewing books 😍

Aw thanks so much for this lovely comment Susan! I’m so glad to hear your enjoying your time in Japan and visiting some of the spots I recommended 🥰
It looks so nice! Be sure to make more and take us along for the journey!
The Japanese patterns would be good for an office environment. They aren't too casual and have a higher neckline. The dress is nice. Women who embroider or crochet would love that collar.

Several years ago I was addicted to Japanese sewing pattern books. Marvelous idea to make a series.
Such a wonderful pattern and fabric. Love the Japanese designs.
The dress is beautiful and the movement in the linen is divine. Would love to see more of this type of video.

Absolutely gorgeous! well done !👏 Yes please, it'd be lovely to see a Japanese pattern series!
This was a great video - love the idea of Japanese pattern series. That linen is so beautiful!
You are so talented and have so much determination. Life is life sh* happens. Your excitement is contagious. I am fortunate to own a thrifted Necchi machine mainly used for thrift adjustments.
A beautiful dress. And you are right pleats are one of the easiest variants to do to a garment
When I saw it laid out I was screaming noooooo stop! So glad you unpacked it and it looks amazing. Well done.
LOVE that pattern! OMG--I might have to hack that for myself! Adorable!
Fantastic dress! Thanks for the tuition. Would love more of same.
