We don't have singers that sing these wonderful old hymns. The modern gospel songs are lacking in simplicity and some sound more like a rock band than gospel singers.
Do you think there has ever been anyone who looked happier when singing than Johnny Cook? I don't know which I enjoy more; his singing or the look on his face.
WHAT AN ANOINTED VOICE VESTAL HAD!!! I LOVE LISTENING TO HER!!! HAND RAISED, HEAD BACK LOOKING TOWARD HEAVEN SINGING TO HER LORD AND SAVIOR!!! I REALLY MISS HER!!!😀💜💜💜💜 THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE WHO COMES CLOSE TO HER!!! REST IN PEACE IN THE ARMS OF YOUR SAVIOR VESTAL AND HOWARD!!!
Love love love this! Vestal's got some serious hair going on there. It looks good on her. This is one of the best gospel songs ever. Johnny and Vestal sound great!
Judging this for my purely musical perspective his pronunciation and diction is impeccable and I love it plus the fact that he can go that high and not sound like he’s straining
Can’t wait until I am in Heaven and see these wonderful Brothers and Sisters and hear their Heavenly Voices sing , these comments were 10 years ago now it October 29, 2022 and I think we are so close to the Rapture and this song is so spot on, soon we will be in that Heavenly City 🙏💯
they're the absolute best. I grew up worshipping with the Goodman family at Life Temple in Madisonville KY, loved listen to Vestal and Johnny Cook singing Looking for a a City and many more. I praise God for bringing them into my life when I needed them the most, renewed my faith thank you Lord for my many Blessings AMEN
Love watching Howard Goodmans' facial expression's as Johnny Cook is singing the last chorus of this song...... He seem's to be delighted that Johnny is able to alway's go up just one more each time.. especially on the last chorus ! .......... 😊
@@thetruthandnothingbutthetr6484 What a joke. Steve Perry of Journey has Mercury beat by a mile. I loved Mercury and he was a good entertainer but as far as vocal range and voice Perry is definitely better.
The late Johnny Cook is such a joy to listen to..... He could sing through the roof with power & quality..... What a fantastic high tenor!...... Best EVER!! 💜💔 🌹 So enjoyable to watch.. especially with Sam.. Rusty & Howard Goodman all cheering for Johnny add's to this friendly.. good-spirited sing-off between Vestal & Johnny on this old 'classic!'........ 😊 🍃 🌹 💔💔💔💔💔 🌹🍃 And Yes Bessie... he Was Amazing With Those High Notes!! €🎼 🎶
This is what is called MUSIC, good gospel music with great harmony by people who are expressing their love for Jesus and hope for the future. Plus it's not some boring praise chorus that may as well be reciting the rosary for all their rhythm and rhyme. It took something to go higher than Vestal Goodman, especially if you were a man!
Vestle Goodman And Johnny Cook are truly the #1 singers of Looking For A City. And Just think they are in that City looking ,singing , and smile long a all those whom they love. Rest in peace....
Every day I'm closer to that city "built without hands". How I long to be there. What a joy when my work here is finished. We never really know when our time here will end. May we live in state of preparedness. I look forward to knowing the "why" of my life experiences and situations, to meeting my Lord and Savior in person and to seeing my mother again.
They were awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!! Grew up watching and listening to this fine wonderful group. Remember watching them on the Gospel Singing Jubilee . So glad to see the Goodman Revival group carrying on the family tradition.
@PVBJR Johnny passed away on May 14, 2000 in Huntsville, Alabama. You may search the obit archives in the Huntsville Times and find an obit for him. He is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Milan, Gibson County, Tennessee.
The worship leader at our church, Whole Life Ministries Augusta Ga, is Vestals cousin. She sings some of Vestals songs, per Pastor, and they are great...
Mary Beth you can find this song on the Happy Goodmans Southern Gospel Treasury Series. Amazon will have it and it is also on e-bay. Also you can type in Johnny Cook and The Happy Goodmans and it will take you to sights to order it. Good Luck and if you don't find it repost and I will find it for you
i have always loved the happy goodmans, especially vestal! i'm 16, and they are my favorite Southern Gospel group! unlike most people my age, i love Southern Gospel music, and i am very passionate about it. and i love the Happy Goodmans. i know and i sing all their songs in my church as well as in other places. i have many videos on here of me singing their songs. i will never be as talented or as spirited as they were, but i love singing for the Lord. please feel free to check out my videos!
I miss good 'ol Gospel music and Gospel folk (not in Mass, of course). That is one thing that Baptists and fundamentalist Christians have over the Catholic Church.
@alanatkinson499... sometime back l read a comment someone made replying to Johnny Cook being called High C ...... In response he said.. High C was just a nick name for him.. he could sing higher with no problem.. it was more of a comfort range for him... & added in order to really know how high he could sing.. you would have had to have seen him in concert.... He said.. "He could knock the dust off a church bell!" Kaji.. a Vocal Expert showcased Johnny Cook's vocal range on TH-cam.. Although he said.. was sure he could sing higher.. but it's not on record...... Also said his voice type is a Male Mezzo-soprano.. an incredible & rare voice type.. especially in Gospel music.... That's probably one of the main reason's he could sing so high & in full voice always...... What amazes me more than his unusually high range ability Is his versatility of being able to sing softer & also extremely powerful as he got older...... One of my favorite Albums is his "Spirit" Album (1979)
When you do not look at the video hard to tell which one is singing. I wonder how long Vestel's hair was here. I recall as a young lad disliking them-BUT she GREW on me. Now I miss her dearly. Wonder if when Jesus returns she will be shouting the opening proclamation!
Two singers who were and still are underrated today. These two should be in the top 5 of greatest singers of all time!
Agreed!!
I cannot turn their music off in my head.
Most people sing to music ; Vestal and Johnny had voices that were the music.
Can't wait to go to all those gospel concerts in heaven, it will be better than any earthly concert could ever be!!! Love the Goodman's
Hello, how are you doing?
Johnny Cook was THE BEST tenor voice in Gospel music! And still is. ❤ REST IN PEACE sir.
Johnny is one of the GREATEST gospel tenor.

I saw them sing in Lufkin, Texas in the mid 1970’s while Vestal was out & Johnny Cook handled tenor by himself.
Johnny cook was such a good looking man and he could sing the best I loved his singing in his songs and I loved him
Love love love this! Vestal's got some serious hair going on there. It looks good on her. This is one of the best gospel songs ever. Johnny and Vestal sound great!

Hello, how are you doing?
Now that is the truth. He is clearly not straining, and holds that high note without waivering. Truly a remakable tenor indeed.
He's obviously a castronauta
Praise God I'm a Full Gospel preacher. I suffer with depression. Howard and Vestal lifted me out of depression many times
Me as well emotionally!
Johnny Cook. The greatest tenor ever.

I played this and the glass throughout my house shattered....LOL! I absolutely love those high notes!
Seen these guys 4 times live & Johnny won them all, lol. He is known as the highest tenor ever.
OZ238 well he was, now we have David Phelps as the highest.
OZ238 he died to
David Phelps is better. But not higher
Probably the highest white gospel tenor ever ...he’s not even half as good as Freddie Mercury

I just loved Vestal's anointed voice. "come on Johnny" Oh, yes! My my I love this video. Thank you for posting
