It's a shame the only scene Cannon shared with Cheri Lunghi was when Margaret was already dead. They could have at least kept the scene when Kate comes to Margaret's deathbed. Margaret tells her that she's not sorry to die; she has worried all these years that Jamie had no one to take care of him as she had done the last year of his life after he suffered his stroke. It was a lovely scene and cemented the fact that Margaret loved Jamie McGregor unconditionally, no matter what. To her, she still belonged to Ian (Jamie) and was ready to be reunited with him.
The original miniseries was 9 hours long (and aired in 3 segments over 3 nights). When the DVD was released, for some odd reason they decided to cut it down to only 6 hours, thus resulting in a very confusing experience when watching the 2nd disc.
Was that 9 hours with commercials? In that case, the actual film time would have been about 6 hours. A show that airs in the U.S. for an hour contains about 22 minutes of commercials. I remember when I first watched it thinking how much of Kate's childhood and young adulthood they had completely skipped over, Dyan Cannon being the star, they had to get over her trying to look 18 in a hot hurry.
