Wiki: A sphinx is a mythical creature with the head of a human and the body of a lion.
In Greek tradition, it has the head of a human, the haunches of a lion, and sometimes the wings of a bird. It is mythicised as treacherous and merciless. Those who cannot answer its riddle suffer a fate typical in such mythological stories, as they are killed and eaten by this ravenous monster. This version of a sphinx appears in the myth and drama of Oedipus. Unlike the Greek sphinx, which was a woman, the Egyptian sphinx is typically shown as a man . In addition, the Egyptian sphinx was viewed as benevolent, but having a ferocious strength similar to the malevolent Greek version and both were thought of as guardians often flanking the entrances to temples.
It still blows my mind as to how come there is a sphinx for both Egyptian and Greek mythology. Did the Egyptians and Greeks once shared their mythologies to each other that they incorporated elements of it to their own myths?
Speaking of which, I sure wanna find out more about the Egyptian Sphinx.
I believe they have; especially between the Greeks and Egyptians. There’s too many myths were they incorporate the Egyptians such as Io fleeing to Egypt becoming Hathor; the Olympian’s fleeing Typhon as animals, Helen of Troy actually never going to Troy but going to Egypt. Plus the city of Thebes.
The Greeks had the Sphinx monster as featured in this. The Egyptians created their own Sphinx via their relationship and worship of cats. So one's a monster and the other is a spiritual/cultural image.
@chasin Just remember do not think of it as a religion rn think of it as culture being spread then changed through time as settlers trades go there which means it could have originated from 1 or a different area yo7 just need the earliest records of them
tbh there is a myth that the greek gods fled to egypt to escape typhon so probably some greeks might have migrated to egypt and they carried the stories
Greeks conquered Egypt before Roman's did later on. They were close to each other in the Mediterranean and prop had plenty of influence
The Greek Sphinx was one of the children of Typhon and Echidna.

Selene/Artemis and Diana/Luna
@@priscillajimenez27 I know this is an old comment, but Helios and Selene were former Gods until (I think) the Romans replaced them by Apollo and Artemis.
Amazing
Nice work on the animation. Are the Greek and Egyptian sphinx related ?
The greeks got most of their knowledge from the egyptians ( africans ).
For example, Pythagoras comes from Ptah ( Ptah is his shortened name). There are endless examples of this.
@@JaeBee1718 wrong buddy the whole world copied the Greeks, there are only two kinds of people on earth, those that are Greek and those who wish they were.
Good video
the sphinx should of called suicide prevention for help
Looking back on it did the Sphinx have to kill herself?
It feels like an asspull so the hero doesn’t get straight up killed if you ask me.
Grey World. It was so the Greeks didn't have to explain why the Sphinx didn't set up shop at some other city and start all over again. They were good about that.
Easy the sphynx got so mad she rage quit lol
AWESOME
In a lecture Rudolf Steiner gave, he mentions a legend of Oedipus which describes how the human being faces the Sphinx, how the Sphinx torments him with questions. And how It was paramountly during the Greco-Latin epoch of civilization that, in their breathing, men felt themselves confronting the Sphinx in the Cosmos. The picture of the human being and the Sphinx, or of the human being and the Luciferic powers in the Cosmos, gives expression to a deeply-rooted experience of men as they were during the Fourth Post-Atlantean epoch, and indicates that when, in however small a degree, a man breaks through the boundaries of his normal life on the physical plane, he comes into contact with the Sphinx-nature. At this moment Lucifer approaches him and he must cope with Lucifer, with the Sphinx. Luciferic force, being one of the Trinitiy working in a human with its influence all the time, so apparently every civilization has this knowledge.
