    Great man Monte. To have been a part of the Ramones career. An era that will never be repeated.

    I hadn't heard of Ramones until...... They were on the bill and I was at the show. Blown away. Chicago in the late 1970s. Love at first sight. Heard them 6 times in 9 months. But yeah, they are so huge now. Just like Vincent Van Gogh.

    My introduction to The Ramones was in 1974 when they started out, no record deal yet, playing CBGB'S in the Bowrey in New York. I was reading 'Rock Scene,' magazine in those days and they were promoting the new upcoming bands in New York, the new sound that became Punk Rock. They were doing articles on The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, and others long before any of them had a record deal.
    I bought The Ramones 1st album when it came out in 1976. I didn't like it. I thought they sounded like the Bay City Rollers on acid. Yet, I liked their image, long hair, leather jackets, worn out jeans, they looked hip. They didn't look like any of the other punk bands with spiked haircuts and safety pins in their cheeks. I still can't understand how they got locked into the punk genre.
    Later on, late 70's, early 80's, I'd hear a Ramones song from time to time and started to appreciate the band more. I liked their 3rd album 'Rocket To Russia,' a lot. 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker,' is a great rocker and I loved 'Rockaway Beach,' (The Beach Boys meets Heavy Metal)! Other great songs followed like 'I wanna Be Sedated,' 'The KKK Took My Baby Away', & 'Bonzo Goes To Bitberg (My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down,)' just to name a few.
    I never considered The Ramones to be a punk band. In my opinion, they were a great kick ass, high energy, rock and roll band that wrote new chapters in the history of rock and roll. They were a damn good band!!!

      Yeah, I wish they could have asked things that are not actually already on the book. There are a lot of things I would like to know and he has the answer.

    Having lived through that era, I understand a lot of Monte's impressions: jeans with patched knees . :)

    Monte is a fucking legend!!!! The Ramones proved they could keep going without any of The Ramones, but... without Monte, I doubt they would have gone anywhere. Literally.

    His was a very good book. Wasn't all his own writing, perspectives from many people in the Ramones scene were in it. I've read a bunch of Ramones books- one by Joey's brother, one by Johnny, one by Marky, one by Dee Dee, one by a Journo. I think Monte's might've been the best (the others were mostly really good too). Might have to buy it again for the bonus stuff, it's been a real long time since I read it.

    1976-1949 = 27, not 25, lol! I was at the show in Toronto where the Ramones were booed off the stage... I left when the Ramones left.

    • @jimbo1959
      @jimbo1959 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They got booed because they were the only punk band there! The crowd was a Rush,Triumph crowd.The Ramones NEVER should have been booked at that gig! It was probably Monte's brilliant idea!

    I think the biggest influence on the Ramones was Bubblegum Music and the Brill Building song factory. I'm surprised Monte didn't mention that. The prices for this book are WAY too high. 1:09:25 THANKS TO TRUMP, WE DO HAVE A VACCINE IN RECORD TIME!

    Monte really depicts the Ramones initial CB-GBs days in Stark contrast to the CB-GB film. That movie was interesting but had songs playing at wrong years in the story. Seems to have taken great liberties with the story. I thought the Joey actor was good.

      Agreed. Such a schmuck. And obviously doesn't know much about The Ramones. Just listening to Monte was great though.
