for me, "don't rush" is the best thing to hear right now! I'm having such a turbulent relationship with my writing at the moment. I get into these mental states where my fear of publishing is a bit paralyzing and it distracts me from focusing on my story. every so often, I feel like I fall out of love with the craft and I'm trying to learn how to come back to it again and again. thank you for sharing these lessons!! 💛

Brandon Sanderson once said that if you plan on being a writer, you should be okay with the fact that your books may never be published but at least you still wrote them. It took me a while to realize that. It's unlikely I'll get published but I have fun writing and I love it.
The way that everything you said resonated w my whole being lol. Im 24 too and always thought I'd publish before graduation, but now that I'm a new grad without a finished manuscript life isn't going as planned😅. I had serious writers block my last 2 years and couldn't come up w a cohesive plot, just bits and pieces. I tried coming up w new ideas but got stuck on the old ones. Finally I've gotten the plot structured in a way that works but I'm no where near done. I want to finish latest by summer and start querying but I know that writing a book takes time and everyone goes at their own pace😩 I just wish it was at least half way written, spent so much time spent plotting the story 🤦🏾♀️
Oh my gosh I'm so glad I'm not alone, but if it's any consolation the past couple years have been creatively dry for a lot of us 😭 Definitely take all the time you need to make your book shine, but I 100% believe in you!! A good, strong outline makes drafting so much smoother

yep, this is such an important mindset to maintain. writing toward the 'goal' of publication has only ever hindered me!
