There are machines that have x,y,z control for individual points, they just take a lot longer due to the number of points they have to cover. I don't think they are very common though. Here is one if you can get the info below to work on youtube. wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcomSLASHwatch?feature=player_detailpage&v=jSZbkR9vNzI#t=507s
Ahh man, I was hoping this was a small desktop machine that would carve out solder stencils for home DIY'ers.. I was fearing the price tag on such a device, though.
Oh nice! See that's more like it :D Thanks for sharing! Looks like something that should be easily replicable by a hobbyist, maybe using syringes or something. I wonder why it's so slow? Seems like something that accurate could still be done a lot faster, unless this is just a slow small production machine.
Thanks for the video. Its good the see the different equipment that's available and very interesting to witness the evolution of Sparkfun's manufacturing process.
So it doesn't do anything except wipe side to side? So it's not a printer at all, It's a motorized squeegee. I was expecting something that cut the stencils or was a little more impressive. After it's setup does it at least load new boards and pass them to the Pick'n Place machine when it's done doing it's unimpressive job?
Isn't it faster to do it by hand? :D Imo, setup takes forever, it's only good for paste to one side to another?

I wonder how close we are to having a solder paste printer which works like an ink jet printer, negating the need for stencils?

These already exist, and MYDATA makes one which can be found on their website under Jet Printing (MY 500 Jet Printer)
