Tons of respect for Dustin... Goldust would be a hard character to portray - especially if you aren't totally comfortable with it right off the bat - and yet he slammed it completely outta the park... Really talented guy.
Goldust - one of the most over gimmicks EVER!!! His mini feud with the Undertaker in 1996 was a great pairing of two characters. Great video!!! Thank you, Justin and Dustin!!!
I remember Dustin as "Black Reign" in TNA; he had his own name in WCW. Goldust was a controversial gem in the WWF/WWE "Attitude Era" prior to the Rico Costantino character (a "homosexual stylist"). I love Dustin's philosophy about developing a character that people should/must care about.
WWE dropped the ball big time in 2013 with Goldust return teaming with Cody, that angle was so over, and was the strongest angle IMO in close to 10 years.
It was awesome seeing him again on Monday Night Raw. I wished him and Cody would have had a WM match last year. He got a nice pop when he came out at the Royal Rumble.
Goldust is a perfect example of taking a potentially career killing gimmick and running it with it, sprinting in fact. You can question whether or not it was McMahon's way of embarrassing the family or whatever, but ultimately bad and difficult gimmicks are handed out everyday, who honestly thought The Undertaker gimmick would be the most iconic gimmick not named Hulk Hogan? Even if you are handed a gimmick that you hate, you must dive into it and become it.
Alas, a lot of character is sorely missing from a lot of wrestling IMO. Goldust is one of the most entertaining characters and greatest veterans. For me, if you want to work a character well, you need to know how to handle your character with any possible conflict.
Man I remember watching Dustin Rhodes in WCW and there was one match at I think it was a Clash of Champions, where he faced Vader and to me it was the match of the night but it wasn't until he became Goldust that his career just took off. It's just too bad some of his most recent appearances were kind of bland compared to '96 or '97 Goldust. I will say through that his match on Monday with Randy Orton was amazing and really shows what he can still do.
Justin the man you just interviewed had the hardest gimmick to pull off in the WWF. Thanks for shedding the light on this amazing wrestler yeah everyone thought he was gay but so what? I may not be gay but to me it has nothing to do with the industry. Unless your a homophobe. Then you might be a closet gay. I couldnt imagine anyone else trying to pull this off. Your the man Dustin! Only the Undertaker and Sting have put so much of their heart and soul into their characters as you.
Exactly. The Goldust character worked because it was so 180 from what Dusty used to do. They wouldn't have done Dustin any favors if they tried to make him a clone of his dad. Look at how that worked out for Ted Dibiase Jr.
Well Goldust was kinda like his father. Remember his father had a cool thing of his own that was funny and weird. Like his dancing. Vince was just going off something that reminded him of his father probably.
Man i aint gonna lie ive always liked dustin rhodes but golddust at first,i despised him he was so gross to me as a kid such heel heat id have thrown things at him if id seen him live lol great character work genius psychology major story teller hats off to you dustin
Goldust/Piper in the Backalley Brawl is one of the best WM matches ever. Wrestling is awful today because they don't try anything like goldust anymore. That and nobody could pull off a gimmick like that except for dustin. Best ever.
They've all been good but this is my favorite so far. I don't think the Attitude Era would have had any 'Tude at all had Dustin not been there in the 1990's to kick it off.
I think Vince turned on the volume of the goldust character though, as opposed to what Adrian done. Adrian was one of the first to do a gimmick like that yeah, but Dustin really went in to his own as goldust.
Bray Wyatt would be a perfect example of someone who was given a character, and ran with it. He is 110% into his eerie, dark, and complex character that it is frightening at times to watch. If WWE does everything right with Bray, he will become one of the biggest stars ever!
I hear you saying turn you're personality up to 11 but what if your gimmick is more of an alternate version of you than who you are... for example me, David is laid back and tells jokes however Timentes is black hearted and explosive. What I'm asking is how do you completely switch from one to the other
Nowadays Dustin has much more respect then back in the wwf days because gays weren't accepted as much, and he's not gay but he had to portray that character... He must of had a hard time wrestling.
especially being "son of a plumber" the southern icon dusty rhodes, lots of attitude era fans dont realize how big of a deal it was that it was the son of the dream, big ole texan the natural dustin rhodes. Dusty was that big of a deal down South in the 80's
Good video, but androgyny is not the same thing as homosexuality. Goldust was both androgynous AND homosexual, but not all people who are androgynous are both.
I could listen to Dustin Rhodes talk wrestling for hours on end. One of the more brilliant wrestling minds in the biz.
Tons of respect for Dustin... Goldust would be a hard character to portray - especially if you aren't totally comfortable with it right off the bat - and yet he slammed it completely outta the park... Really talented guy.
Loved Goldust character during my childhood!! Much respect !!

I wish this was a 2 hr shoot! I throughly enjoyed this! Thanks Justin and Dustin!
Watch and share. Very informative. A must see!!!
Wow! Thank you Justin and Dustin. Legendary advice for young talent.
Brilliant. Simply, brilliant. And that's why we have still never forgotten the name of..... Goldust.
Dustin Rhodes is the best.
2019, anybody? ahh well I guess I'm here and I love it. Every bit, just know this man, we need more of these videos. Can you do it?
Right here buddy..this content is Gold..no pun intended
The "Dust" is a master of his work, God bless'm!
best dude...one of my last Heros in wrestling
Dustin...AWESOME match with Orton recently. He can still put on great matches.
WWE dropped the ball big time in 2013 with Goldust return teaming with Cody, that angle was so over, and was the strongest angle IMO in close to 10 years.
maybe me being old school fan biases me, but it was a great angle and was so over even with todays audience.
+jack frost no one cares about Cody he would be a straight up jobber in any other era
lots of people did according to the pops when him and goldust first won the tag titles, this was before they were buried.
I kept hearing the bell ring in background I thought jbl was coming in
These are absolutely amazing thank you for putting this knowledge out hear I've learned so much
The Clarences love & support Pro Wrestling 101, Justin & Dustin!
Great interview!
Just incredible as always!
Thank you for posting this. It is great to hear about his character development. I wish you had more from him.
goldust is da man!
Best one yet!

Best vids` pure gold. Dustin hit home` own the character, go back watch his vignettes nothing can touch his delivery.
Alas, a lot of character is sorely missing from a lot of wrestling IMO.

That was awesome! Fantastic advice! One of your best vids (and they're all great!)
I think its safe to say we will never forget the name of.......GOLDUST ;0 lol
Watching in late 2019
Yo Justin Credible that's awesome interview with my all time favorite wrestler of all time
Awesome episode, these are just getting better and better PJ!
STILL known as GoldDust :)

I love seeing these videos. This is what you were meant to do. Follow what you love, teach those coming up and have fun with it.
I swear that guy was the one who captured my interest in pro wrestling back in '96 #Goldust

All of these lessons and interviews should have been put together and sold as a DVD like raven did. This is gold information ❤❤❤❤

Good stuff
Awesome job guys as,always
The thing about the 90s was goldust was like adrian street with the volume turned up. I loved that gimmick
Easy to see the respect they show to each other.
Well Goldust was kinda like his father. Remember his father had a cool thing of his own that was funny and weird. Like his dancing. Vince was just going off something that reminded him of his father probably.

Great vid
Hes one of those not that it matters who never smiles
If you like this video share it please.

Goldust totally reminds me of the Yellow guy from Sin City.

My fave Goldust moment was when he gave Ahmed mouth to mouth resuscitation, and Ahmed got PISSED.
Is this really Justin Credible? It seems like it but I had to ask. If so, you've got a sub! Great channel.

This guys my neighbor he's awesome

The Artist Formally known as GOLDUST*
Fantastic interview , nobody eally does new characters anymore , shame some like goldust, undertaker and Kane were awsome .
Looks like his dad
why do you hate to admit it?
Liked the interview. Its too bad there's not as much interest for gimmick wrestlers anymore. But I really liked the goldust character.
So that s what X-Pac would look like bald..... interesting
I like goldust but I liked when he was just a cowboy.
What the hell is wrong with the bald guy standing next to Dustin?
You should probably say Adrian Street is the best gimick ever, since goldust is a direct copy of him
Good video, but androgyny is not the same thing as homosexuality. Goldust was both androgynous AND homosexual, but not all people who are androgynous are both.
goldust wasnt homosexual (the character and Dustin), he was playing "mind games" remember?
Vince is gay thats why he liked the gimmick.
