    This was the best overview of the Platinum nib sizes I have ever encountered here on YT. There are some others out there but none of them are this in depth about including the sound of the feedback etc. So a big thank you to you, Azizah!

    Although I came across this a year late, I think it was *very* useful, and now it exists on TH-cam for posterity (or, at least, until TH-cam goes belly up). I enjoyed the structured way you went through the nibs, and tidbits of advice along the way. This was a great service to all of society. Well, ok, to that part of society that still cares about things like nib performance! 😋

    Thanks Azizah or is it Aziza. Excellent demonstration and if one were to
    just take reference from the Platinum demonstrator pen stand/rack alone, one
    could be misled. By this I mean the writing samples on the rack are Chinese
    writing which is completely different to any other language, English included.

    wanting to buy on-line. Keep your videos coming.

    Thank you for doing this. I love love love the Platinum 3776 Century. It is my favorite pen of all of the pens in my collection. My 3776 has an Extra Fine nib and I love it because my handwriting is small and for journaling...... which I do extensively.... the EF nib is perfect. I try to back off but put a lot of pressure down on the page so my nibs go up a size. I want to try the UEF and the fine as well as the soft fine to figure out what I like or dont about these nibs with my hand pressure. Ill have to wait for a local pen show or something I guess. But this still gave me a ton of good info to work with.

      How did the EF turn out? I’m really interested in this pen but I don’t know if I should get a F, EF or UEF. I’m lefthanded and would like a really fine line, but not to the point it’s dry and skipping.

      Nobody Here Thanks for the super fast reply!
      I know japanese nibs are finer than european nibs, but I feel like my EF lamy just isn’t fine enough, I have switched between an F an EF in my lamy and there’s no difference in line width. The F is smoother but the EF has more shading.
      I not sure if I should get the platinum in F or EF

    • @bluegingerink5021
      @bluegingerink5021 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr. Swooprah If you find EF on Lamy isn’t fine enough and there is not much of a difference between their F and EF, then EF in platinum should be a good place to start trying. Since there are many factors in finding the right one including the kind of ink we use from the brand to the colours and also what paper we are writing on, I found that the only way to find the right one, is by actually trying them. Trial and error can be expensive but I found it is the only way to go. With known brands like Platinum you can always resell anyway. Good luck!

    Que locura ese "mostrario" de Platinum..provoca tener uno....te imaginas.... que maravilla.
    Creo que es la primera vez que un experto puede sentarse y mostrar TODA la variedad de grosores de plumas que ofrece un buen estilografo. Hay otros que muestran "como queda" la escritura de las distintas opciones, pero no que muestren en realidad como se comporta cada uno. MUY buen video.

    But let's be honest, if when writing with the UEF nib - the height of the letters is about 3mm, then when writing with the B nib - it is already 5mm.
    Platinum 3776C resharpen the size M into F/EF - simply removing the side chamfers from the ball (because of this, there are problems when writing). And in general, the 3776C iridium ball wears out rather quickly, unlike the Pilot or Sailor nibs, not to mention the comparison with the Bock nibs (these are the very long-livers).

    Really useful comparison. Thank you. :) I'm looking at getting my first Platinum 3776 soon (ish) and have been wondering what nib to choose. My current two "best pens" are an Italix Parson's Essential Medium, and a Parker Sonnet 18k medium nib. I am a little scared of "broad" nibs, because I'm looking for something a little more refined (that's the wrong word, but I don't know how to express it) I don't have the biggest handwriting so want my letters to be distinct. Do you think the Platinum Medium would be ok? Maybe a little finer than a Parker Medium, but not super fine? Any advice would be very welcome.

    Is the coarse supposed to be essentially a double broad (triple?) or is it supposed to have some additional qualities other then being broader than broad? The name is throwing me off. Unless the coarse is not indicative of texture but implies some thing raw and rough to be polished, like rough diamonds, since you mentioned these nibs are a good starting point for custom work?

  • @stevehuffman7453
    @stevehuffman7453 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So ... do these nibs fit other pens, and are they sold separately or just with the expensive pen?
    If they fit a standard N°5 or N°6 nib pen, great! I might be interested. However, if they are only available in a pen that costs even 20% of my monthly rent ... forget it. I need a lot of things a bunch more than an expensive pen. If I ever NEED a gold nib, I know I can get a new N°5 or N°6 nib (depending on which pen I "need" it for) for between $120 ~ $130. To me, that is a better option than spending $600 plus for a pen that comes with a gold nib and a "high end" name.
