@@bowhello9647 well, in case you didnt know, thats exactly what the name CHON stands for. Every letter in CHON's name are capitalized cuz they refer to the chemical elements C, H, O and N.
Mario and Erick have a cool new lo-fi project :D Look up the album Lazy Autumn by Sleepy Ghost. That's their first release under this side project, and while it's quite different from their usual shreddy stuff, it's still got those nostalgic vibes 😊
So this friend of mine and I were talking about CHON: Me: "Dude, how old is Mario, his playing is phenomenal!" Bud: "20 i think" Me: "And how long do you think has he been playing?" Bud: (very very seriously) "40 years...i think."
I cant believe this video is 7 years old already . I remember watching this video for the first time damn good times , when discovered about this made me appreciate more drums.
This reminds me of last summer, when I was smoking too much . The sunlight seemed crisp and fresh. I used to listen this then and it is stuck in my head as a memory of that time.
This was one of the first songs that led me my now fiance 9 years ago. You guys and your music have had a big role to play in my life. Thank you for doing what you do ❤
They did. Idk if it's just them being complete introverts or their Sumerian problem but they probably weren't ready for them to blow up that big so quickly and burnt out.
@@mangoshake I reckon you're right. I was first shown this exact video about a week after it was released in 2013, and have been following CHON ever since. They've never struck me as the kind of guys who want to "make it big" and are content with playing cool songs for their small band of followers.
@@Quaker763 right? I think their happiest point was probably projecting a Smash competition on stage while they were touring with Tricot and the others. Then Sumerian probably forced them to crank out album after album because CHON started looking sellable and it was enough to burn them out.
Chon was huge but they got completely wrecked by Sumerian. They weren’t even making money from their own merch. So basically they’re all bullshitting in a loop hole making solo albums of electronic music until they’re contract times out… such bullshit :/ they were the original polyphia. And honestly better, less of show offs and just chill ass tunes
Still remember hanging with you guys at the show in Atlanta with animals as leaders years ago. We even talked through messenger then, so glad you guys got the attention and game you deserve love you guys and your work!
This is by far the most fun chon song to play (an easiest). Anyone who's trying to play their songs should start with this one. Suda is really fun too, the sweeping part is easier than it looks
This song is far from easy it's very unique with that the Harmonic sections using skip string and chords over in between harmonic ideas. The taping part has a skip string taped arpeggio then the next section if the taping uses a 5 string 3 note pure string taping section it's very challenging I mean for chon it's not there hardest but many ideas use in this song are very unique and unorthodox a high level of virtuosity is required to play this piece no doubt about it just performed it live last week
Got recommended Mario playing pokemon tapping, everybody talking bout CHON, trying to find it on youtube and I already liked most of the vids. Holy shit
When I first heard this, I thought, "They're good at their instruments, but I don't really like this song." For some reason I came back and watched this about 5 more times, though. Now I love it.
dude trying to learn this songs really checks you, at 1:57 you realize theyre playing differents halves of the harmonic melody perfectly together. It's absolutely fucked. This is gonna take months of practice
I'm still looking for the original video of Mario playing the opening riff on his acoustic all these years later. There was also a video for the outro lick as well
I've probably watched this a hundred times. Learned the intro. At least I thought I did. Anyway this is the perfect song to learn to help me with my playing and my memory and my muscle memory. Not too hard. Sounds so cool you could play it and never get sick of it and the riff is different the second time you play it 2 little changes can throw you off so easily but ima get this one down. These dudes are so talented that it makes me jealous lol
What are some fundamentals you guys would recommend learning on the guitar? I can play fairly well, but not like you guys. Do you have a solid understanding of the note scales, or are you guys the type who just know how to do it? I'd greatly appreciate it if you could just point me in the right direction of some techniques to practice to get better/faster. The fast notation stuff just feels beyond me and I don't know why. Doesn't have to be super in depth, as I'm sure you've better things to do than to try to help a random fan from the internet, but I'd be so honored if you'd reply. I'm a big, albeit rather new fan, and I think you guys are incredible. I'm only asking because I can easily see that you guys have a firm understanding of what you're doing on the fretboard, and that's what I'm trying to learn. It's hard to teach yourself something like that though. Plus, I've got no idea where to begin. Sorry for the long message, but any help at all is appreciated. Thanks for reading this.
If you can already play well, but want to improve general musicality, learn A TON of music theory. Scales, modes, chord types, creating meaningful progressions, and practice playing while integrating these concepts. Really dissect what your favorite guitar players are doing, the scales they are playing, the chords they are using, their relation to one another. Just learn more about the structure of music, and how to incorporate that knowledge. It'll help your guitar playing and improvisation far more than learning songs and drilling techniques to a metronome, in my opinion.
I'm a drummer, not a guitartist, but basically what these guys^^ said. Just from watching them play this, it's evident that they are very comfortable with their scales and riffs. Just practice on your muscle memory, finger speed, and drill those scales into your head. Should be playing this in no time ;) Good luck!
Aaronmac404 I might want to add on to what Aaron said: It's extremely important to understand how everything sounds while you're studying theory. Your ear is the most important tool you have, if you can't hear the notes and the intervals, then it makes things quite a ways more difficult. If you're in high school still, I highly suggest seeing if your school offers a music theory class. I took the AP course and it helped my listening abilities and playing abilities so much. You don't have to know how to read music, but it makes it much more easier to learn these intervals properly and understand their uses if you can see them on paper. Look up "musictheory.net", they have some pretty awesome tools in regards to ear training. "ChordBook" is also a very useful site for learning shapes on guitar. If you don't know what the name of a chord is, you can also input the fingering onto their chart and it'll process it for you and tell you the name. I can also suggest picking up a few books for learning. I don't have them with me right now, so I can't remember the names of them, but they're relatively affordable and comprehensive. Aaron and I differ on this standpoint and we all have a different idea of how this works out in terms of improving your skills... so take this with a grain of salt. I highly suggest you to learn songs you know you can't play at this moment in time. CHON is an excellent example for many people. Learn their songs as literal as possible and never take short cuts to make them easier (positioning changes, picking changes... so on and so forth). Mario has put up some tabs to his parts for their earlier stuff. If he alternate picks a line when it's easier to economy pick it, alternate pick it. If he string skips when it would be easier to do a sweep, string skip it.
Ten years later. Still fire.
