    There is a documentary about how this was made. I really recommend you to watch it, it's called "10 Months, 10 Minutes". I don't want to spoil you but you will be amazed with the amount of work that Riot put into this ceremony. Great video as per usual

    The moment the True Damage part happened live was the same moment the music video was uploaded, so the live performance was actually a lot of people's first time experiencing it. The screens are indeed what I meant by not using AR and being even more impressive.
    I find Caps' smiling and sunny disposition even more incredible due to two things: He is just a barely 20 year old Dane, like myself, and because he was in the 2018 world finals with a different european team, lost 0-3 to a chinese team, and is now in the same situation again, but is not showing nerves. (2018 he faced Invictus with Fnatic, 2019 he faced FPX with G2)
    The second singer of Phoenix, the one with the darker hair, also did Legends Never Die.
    The cups are for winning LPL, the chinese league, and LEC, the european league.
    If you're interested in more opening ceremonies, the Mid Season Invitational 2019 is also really good.
    I also recommend the youtube channel of G2, the european team in this final. They're my favourite team ever, due to their current roster being quite possibly the strongest western team of all time, but especially for being the most entertaining team ever to follow. They have both well-edited funny highlight reels of every week of play since the start of 2019 and highlights of their in-game voicecommunication, if that sort interests you. They also have great episodic documentaries of their biggest moments.

    • @TheReelSym
      @TheReelSym  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is a nice touch dropping them at the same time. Yep you were tight this one was by far the best one and the use of lighting and tech was crazy!
      Just found it funny that he was the only one smiling...loved it!
      Yeah think i'll have to check out this team some more later on, thanks for the background and recommendations!

    Yes, it is indeed another showdown between the Asian Division and the European Division. But this European team is not the 2018 Finals team, 2018 is FNC,2019 is G2. The MID Caps moved to G2 from FNC in 2019, and he was in both finals, so you will think he looks familiar. The FPX substitute hold the trophy of the 2019 LPL Summer Championship, because that trophy represents their ability to play in the global finals for LPL, so it is an important presence for FPX.

    As someone who grew up being made fun of for playing video games, moments like this are a vindication of my childhood. When I was younger, gaming was looked at as an activity for kids, that it really didn't mean anything, and adults were always advocating for sports. Well, now gaming IS a sport. It can pack stadiums full of like-minded people who now can experience the thrills that games like this offer. Gaming can now be a PROFESSION, and one that is all-inclusive. You don't have to be born with certain genetics to qualify. It's all about skill, dedication and effort.
    Nerds used to be the laughing stock, and now we have exposed the rest of the world to the things we love and so many people are converting. Computers, comic books, video games, anime - all things that use to be reasons for people to laugh at you are now some of the biggest forms of entertainment on the planet.

    • @TheReelSym
      @TheReelSym  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "As someone who grew up being made fun of for playing video games, moments like this are a vindication of my childhood" - Well who looks silly now! 😝 Plus even if video games weren't as popular as they are now the vindication is that YOU enjoyed \ enjoy playing them...who gives an F what anyone else thinks!
      I think gaming is the fastest form of entertainment and technology and entertainment go hand in hand, plus "nerds" have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to tech.
      More so in western culture the things you mention Computers, comic books, video games, anime are/were viewed as things for children only, it would be rare to find an adult based cartoon series while anime has this sort of thing for years. Things are starting to change and as tech pushes forward it will only increase.

      Actually genetics also matter in video game. While league is more in the anticipation, time reaction is a key part whether or not you'll be succesfull.
      It is specially the case in fighting games where you have to react + anticipate . You should have your time reaction lower to at least 200ms to be revelant and udner 180ms to be in the best of the world or you need a great fking iQ and brain your oppnonent.

    Love seeing someone react to the whole opening and not just Giants.
    To answer your question about this years LoL World Championship. They were planning on having the different stages of the tournament spread out over different Chinese cities with the Finals taking place in Shanghai. Due to the whole situation they decided to move have the whole tournament in Shanghai. So it's very likely that the opening ceremony they had been preparing can go on mostly as planned since the venue for the finals is confirmed to not have changed.

  • @SisanoS.

    To begin with, let's just say that you are correct. These are 2 different teams, but from the same regions, however it is not EU vs Asia but rather EU VS China. Or if we have to be even more specific these are representatives of the LEC (League of Legends European Championship) and the LPL (League of Legends Pro League). In these leagues teams go trough a regular season trough the year. This season is usually spit into spring and summer split. And the top teams from each league get to go to worlds. It is mind-blowing how well structured the LoL pro scene actually is and how close it is to traditional sports.
    If you are interested here is some additional info regarding LoL esports:
    Currently there are 12 pro leagues with 8 to 10 teams competing in them, with the exclusion of LPL that has 17 teams competing. The number of allowed teams is mostly based on the player base. And there are also countless amounts of amateur or semi-pro leagues as well.
    There used to be 5 major region that get to send 3 teams at worlds with the rest of the regions getting only 1 seed. All the teams from the minor regions also had to complete in a mini tournament or "gauntlet" for the final spots at worlds.
    However, this year as per official ruling they are going to make things a bit differently. LEC(EU) and LPL(China) are going to send 4 teams for world, LCK(Korea) and LCS(North America) are getting 3 teams, PCS (Southeast Asia), VCS (Vietnam): 2 Teams each and lastly: CBLOL (Brazil), TCL (Turkey), LJL (Japan), LLA (Latin America), OPL (Oceania), LCL (Russia) : 1 Team each. These decisions is based on past international performances.
    I am not aware if this year the worlds format will change, however traditionally the "Worlds" is held on 3 stages. The Groups stage (actually is the 2nd stage), consists of 16 teams being separated in 4 groups, where the teams have to fight each other withing the groups twice with the top 2 teams moving out to the next stage. The play-in stage (the 1st sage) where teams go trough before said mini tournament to fill in the groups. And lastly the teams that get out of the Groups stage go trough a single elimination bracket tournament where they play best of 5 games. And all of this culminates into the 14 minutes opening ceremony that you just saw.

      Wow that is crazy..thanks for the breakdown and detailing the path a team has to make just to get to the finals. For someone like me i had no idea the level of competition globally and the journey that is required to reach this level! I now have a bit of a better appreciation of what these guys do! Like you say its basically run like a traditional professional sports system.

    The mid laner for G2 was the mid laner for Fnatic at the previous worlds final, that is what was confusing you. The special effects are created with a holonet, which use Pepper's Ghost. It is visible to the audience directly. The audience members on the 'back' see a different projection than those on the front based on some recordings people have put out. They showed off this tech in 2016, but how they used it there was very much a tech demo when compared to how they use in in this opening ceremony.

    Two different teams yeah. It is indeed the same player that you recognised, Caps, but for a different team (still from Europe though). He played for Fnatic in 2018, and for G2 now.
    And the opposing team FPX was from the Chinese league LPL like Invictus the previous year.
    The cup they're holding are the LEC (European league) and LPL regional league cups, both teams in these finals won their regional championship.
    As for the 2020 World championship, it was supposed to be held in China. So there's that... But the regional leagues are back so there is hope, the Worlds are always held at the end of the year
