I was there! I worked back stage on the Mike Douglas Show in that day and had heard rumors during the early morning hours before the show was taped, that she was going to be on the show. The audience wasn't told because of the producer's uncertainty that she'd be able to make it. This was a few weeks before her death and her alcoholism was so advanced that she looked like a frail old lady when they brought her down the back stairs behind the set. It took two people to get her situated on the stool. They handed her a microphone and adjusted her clothing. She was very gracious. She was introduced to a stunned audience. It was an amazing surprise. When the doors opened to the stage, she came to life before our eyes. Her posture straightened and she began to beam her great smile.

I've loved Judy since I was a teen-ager. I saved my baby siting money so I could buy her record albums. I love her still. I'm now 74 years old.

Her poor body was ao broken down by 1968. The fact that she was still able to perform like this is truly amazing.

JUDY was actually in better voice at this point than she had been in previous years. Often in 1966-67 she struggled through songs but here her voice is open and full. She didn't look her best here, but vocally I think she did well on The Mike Douglas Show - and I remember watching this as a little boy.

This video shows that even in 1968 Judy's voice was still in tact. Her breath control, the smoothness of her sound, her unmatched sensitivity, her moment-to-moment acting, and the incredible drama that she brings to the song at the end are a master class in singing.

She was trying so hard to pleaae. She was so ill but she loved her audience. May light perpetual shine upon her.

I remember this! I was there. I was setting up a small buffet in back. She was amazing. She walked in beaming with confidence. She seemed strong and put together that day. She was a powerhouse.

My grandfather adored Judy Garland, as do most all the men in my family!
