In case anyone goes out and makes the mistake that I did, please note that maize/corn flour isn't the same thing as masa flour. Masa flour is when the corn is treated with an alkali so that it has more of a dough texture when mixed with water. I failed twice using maize flour and had to re-watch this video & do some googling to understand what I did wrong. It might be common knowledge to some of you but not to others. You learn something new everyday! Thanks for sharing this recipe 😊.
Oh my gosh! I was like a child when she poked the tortilla in the pan and it just puffed up immediately. I actually opened my eyes and mouth. It was like magic to me.lol
) Awesome and delish Sharlene. Tips in the video description as well. Buen provecho, and see you back soon with more recipes in the playlist here th-cam.com/play/PL_0jAerHsjXH_I4gU4E0MQB_SkfLU4RIT.html :)
We are Texans living international, no Mexican food here so I brought the corn Mesa and tortilla press back in my suitcase, my home is everyone's favorite place to eat!! Blessings from Azerbaijan!!
I cant believe how popular tortillas are in the world now, Mexican archaeologists have found ancient clay pans dated 500 b.c. (2500 years old) in Oaxaca, Mexico, so, at least we have been eating tortillas the way we know them today since 500 b.c. But lets not forget we have been eating corn (at least here in Mexico) since 8000 b.c. (10 000 years ago). This has to be one of the most ancient foods in human history.
+LEGIONARIO1970 Thanks so much for sharing these fascinating findings! Maize, along with rice, cereals, fish and alcoholic drinks certainly have history :) Many thanks again!
Once again, thank you for making these fabulous videos. My mother didn't teach me all of these dishes. It's probably because she had so many ninos. Who has time to teach when everyone is hungry, lol. You are my go-to place to learn. You cook the closest to my mother's day of cooking.
Finally a video that explains the whole process!!! I've followed your instructions now 3 times and have made wonderful tasting tortillas. Thank you so much!
Omg that was like magic when you poked it! I’ve always wanted to make homemade tortillas. So has my mom. After watching this I’m even more determined Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
The best presentation of homemade tortillas I have ever seen.A wonderful instructional video !!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience !!!!
drendee Hola! My heartfelt thanks for your lovely comment. You just made my day :) I am thrilled you have found it helpful - and the outcome traditionally delish. Please enjoy, and thanks again!
+Jauja Cocina Mexicana i understand the difference between corn MEAL and corn FLOUR (and corn starch which the people in the UK call corn flour!).. but what is the difference between MASA and corn flour? i live about an hour outside a tiny town who thinks brown bread is exotic so finding either would be a pain... i can however find corn meal and run it through my grain mill to make flour.
Hola Adriana. Suggest you consider: 1) temperature of comal (needs to be super hot), 2) the amount of water in the masa, 3) time to 1st turn (as soon as edge appears slightly done and 4) cook for ~ 1 min before the 2nd turn. It will puff! Have fun and enjoy! Please let me know how they came out. Thanks!
Jauja Cocina Mexicana oh, thank you so much! i always wanted to know how to make my own tortillas at home. this is so easy and i'm excited to go out this weekend to buy the things i will need to make them. i'll be sure to let you know how they turned out.

@@nimaljayasiri6065 There is NO lard or shortening in the mix for traditional CORN tortillas. I did not mention it simply because it is NOT an ingredient. These are NOT flour tortillas, and it is NOT ok to add to corn masa.

My wife and I just made these exactly as you described and they came out AMAZINGLY! This video is amazing and definitely helped me make my tortillas! Not all of them puffed up but they came out looking okay. Thank you for making this video. I felt like I could make anything you were so soft spoken and encouraging!
Too bad I can't get real corn Masa flour where I'm at. I grew up with authentic Mexican, South American, and Carribean food all around me as a kid. Even though I'm not Latino myself, I might just as well be. Very few things warm my soul like a good plate of Ropa Vieja or a bowl of real Gaspacho. And what she said about real tortillas is the God's honest truth. Even the Mexican owned mass production companies, don't compare to the simple masterpieces that come out of La Cocina de Abuelita. Once a year my wife and I drive 2 hours away to the only Mexican restaurant in Germany that I know that is authentic. The owner and I served together in the Army. He is originally from Ciudad Juarez and good food is his life. His suppliers are constantly asking what he actually serves because he only orders raw products. He makes everything himself. Even his own aged tobasco sauce. 15 different Salsas. It's so worth the drive. I get home sick just thinking about a Papa Rellena or an Empenada. Thank you for sharing your wonderful culture with the rest of us.
I am starting to make my or tortillas and you are my first video...no need to go elsewhere! Thanks and look forward to seeing and trying your other recipes! .
Thank you so much for making this video for us all to learn. I appreciate all your experience and the tips have helped me make delicious tortillas all on my own. Store bought are expensive and not as good as homemade. I am so happy to be done with them forever. :)

Used this method and it came out perfectly the very first time. Well the recipe anyway. It's a little trickier using the torilla press. The first one I pressed too hard and it was too thin. Couldn't get it of the plastic. The second one I just pressed lightly and it was perfect. 🤙

These look amazing! I'm going to make these at home very soon with your recipe. Thank you! Also, I would love to learn how to make a tortillero like yours. I made one when I was a child but I forget what the materials were. Do you know what materials I would need? Thank you in advance.
Hola Ashley. Many thanks. Delish :) Bought my tortillero in one of the artesanías markets in Mexico City. Sorry I am unable to provide a list of materials :) Buen provecho, and see you back soon :)
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing! We just moved to Hong Kong from southern California and I'm trying to make my own tortillas since we can't buy them here. Unfortunately the recipe for tortillas on the bag of maseca called for about twice as much flour for the same amount of water. They were so dry and didn't turn out well at all. I'll be using your tutorial for tonight's dinner.
Thank you for doing this in English, I adore your video but don’t speak Spanish. Thank you. I have have made some of you recipe and your the best on you tube. Your recipe for tuna taco my my husband loved them. Thank you again
My first try didn't come out very good. The dough was sticky, so I added a little more flour before cooking, so they were kind of crumbly. They also needed more salt since they didn't really have any taste, and since I don't have a press, I tried using my hands and they ended up looking more like pancakes than tortillas. I guess I need to keep practicing. :)
Phil Bolton Hola! Many thanks for your comment. Tortilla presses can now be found pretty frequently online and in Mexican markets, and it is always a good idea to have one when cooking Mexican. You may instead follow the method without a press in my video of Gorditas here th-cam.com/video/UckEGXhPPt0/w-d-xo.html or make by hand from scratch - called "tortear a mano" shown in detail in my video of Tlacoyos with blue corn masa th-cam.com/video/CmTOKVfopwI/w-d-xo.html. Keep trying. The results are fantastic and delish. "Practice makes perfect". Enjoy!

Love your video! I grew up in Colorado, and I miss authentic Mexican food! Can't wait to try tomorrow!
+Elaine Pollard Thanks so much Elaine for your comment. So happy you will try these out! Please let me know how they turned out. Happy to help with any questions :) Please enjoy, and buen provecho.

+Jauja Cocina Mexicana thanks!,........ Modern day is about adding fat, oil, sugar,..all the products to dumb you down and make you NOT healthy,..... keep it simple, keep it real is how it should be. :)
+Jauja Cocina Mexicana subd!
+ellaskins Happy to find someone who also embraces the KISS principle :) Enjoy, and buen provecho!
Thank you SO much for sharing this video. When I tried to make tortillas from other videos or recipes, they didn't include the little details like letting the dough rest, so they were brittle and fell apart. This is so much more helpful. I'm saving it to my "Recipes" folder.
Neat, that was magic when you poked it and it puffed up.
Yes! The most simple video ever! Gracias senora. I'm Dominican and Ireally wanted to learn how to make them! They taste so good I can't get enough! Bendiciones de la DR

I made these the other day and my husband loved it. Thank you for sharing recipe.
Enjoy 🙏🏻
The playlist here th-cam.com/play/PL_0jAerHsjXH_I4gU4E0MQB_SkfLU4RIT.html will bring back great memories. Buen provecho 🙏🏻
Look at amazon. I live in Germany and its so hard to find it in the supermarket or delicatess Shop;)
Where is that restaurant located and what's the name?
I am starting to make my or tortillas and you are my first video...no need to go elsewhere! Thanks and look forward to seeing and trying your other recipes! .
OK, I tried this; but I am and OCD measurer; my bad; anyway..can you be exact in your measurement of the masa? Thanks
Thank you so much for making this video for us all to learn. I appreciate all your experience and the tips have helped me make delicious tortillas all on my own. Store bought are expensive and not as good as homemade. I am so happy to be done with them forever. :)

How lovely thanks for showing how to watch the tortilla, thank you Tia Jauja!
Used this method and it came out perfectly the very first time. Well the recipe anyway. It's a little trickier using the torilla press. The first one I pressed too hard and it was too thin. Couldn't get it of the plastic. The second one I just pressed lightly and it was perfect. 🤙

Hi Lauren. Thanks so much for your comment. I am sure the tortillas will be delish! Please let me know. Best wishes with your move, and enjoy!
Jauja Cocina Mexicana They were perfect. My husband took one bite and said it was one of the best things I've ever made! Muchas gracias!
Lauren Richards I am so happy for your success! Thanks for sharing this wonderful story, and hope you will continue to enjoy Jauja Cocina Mexicana :)
Viva nosotros los mexicanos fregones cómo usted señora hermosa 😇💖
I will never buy tortillas again
Big Chickoy Thanks so much for your comment. Please enjoy and let me know how they came out :)
Enjoy!
I’m an instant fan of Juana Cocina Mexicans! I loved this instruction. Gracias
Many thanks🙏🏻
