Crazy to think this match up woudlnt have been half of what it was a year ago. Canada coached by Sammelvuo is much more organized and deadly in system, and Cuba having Herrera and Yant playing in Italy as well as Lopez in Brazil makes them look way more experienced. Crazy game fr

It's only the first week but the matches have been nail biting and exciting for both men and women.
Women's volleyball is one I actually enjoy watching, very entertaining because it less of spiking and more of ball control.
@@guranshvirgill4995 yes, women's has longer rallies while men is more power hits and serves. It's more impressive to watch the defense of men's though especially since the ball is going hard and fast.

I remember Simon, Leon, Leal, and the rest of the team that surprised everyone in their silver finish at the 2010 World championship in Italy. They were so young that time. Almost everyone is a rookie. Cuba definitely has so many good players.

Cuba historically has always produced amazing players. They are very powerful on offense but their defense is always their weakest point.

These two teams are so evenly matched and went down to the wire. Canada did enough to win. But man those young Cubans can really pound the ball and they all can jump out the gym. I would've loved to see Blankenau in there setting for a set or two. Not sure if Herr is a better setter. This Canadian is showing signs of being very competitive in this year's VNL. I think they can keep on improving as a team and definitely can compete with the top dogs. Go Canada!
Imo herr is the better setter, higher block touch, better set location, I find blankeneau sets the ball very low to the right side, sclater hits better with herr setting him on the right side

Cuban attackers really need of a much better setter. If they have someone better covering that position they would be deadly. Not even mentioning that some of the best players in the world are from there but don't play for Cuba anymore, Leon, Leal, Juantorena...

There are a lot of cuban womens players,playing out of Cuba,so the best players aren't with the cuban national team (Melissa Vargas as an example,playing for Turkiye)....and many others...Same thing happened with the mens teams,years ago and that's why Wilfredo Leon (playing for Poland), Yoandi Leal (For Brazil) ,Juantorena (For the previous Italian teams) and some others,less known who also played out of Cuba's Volleyball structure ,and sometimes under a new passport & country.

Cuba have players that can smashed that ball really hard, they only need to step up their system. foreign coach needs to handles them.
I'm glad you see that because that's what this team needs. The Cuban coach only says two words whenever he asks for a time-out. Those words are vamos y seguimos. What kind of directions are those? Besides, the number of errors they committed per game is astonishing, which keeps happening every season that the team plays. There is no improvement on their system, which screams only one-word coach change now!!!

You just need to have a Cuban coach get some experience in Brazil or Russia, and combine the strategy and technique of Brazil and Russia with the physicality of the Cuban players and you have there a recipe for an elite champion team for years.

@PQV oh im counting out Ottawa, the venue there is fine. I think last time for Women's they went to Calgary, and I felt the enegy there wasn't as electric. So i thought Montreal would be great alternative.

Cuba needs a new coach desperately; his coach doesn't know how to direct the talents of the Cuban player. Their mistakes keep growing per season. It is about time this young starts from Cuba show his true potential, but with their coach, this Cuban team won't go anywhere. That's was true.
This result shows to me that they are still not ready. To think that these guys shine out there, in their club teams but cannot make it happen when playing together.
