You shouldn't 'play' a specific archetype. You need to see what your opponents are doing and find the open lane. All the pieces come from the same pool so if someone else is picking up glaciers you are going to have a tough time

Mages, shamans, and assassins are the best counters to the greater besides 4 witchers. Physical damage builds like hunter, beast, glacier, kira, struggle.
