My 93 year old Nana has Alzheimers and not too long ago she began singing this when someone mentioned bananas. Usually I recognize what she is singing but this one really stumped me. Of course that lead me to look it up here. I am glad she chose to sing this because I really enjoyed this. Thank you for uploading it.
Years ago, during the Brussels Animated Movie Festival (now called "Anima"), we were doing that during the screening of Fleischer's "You Try Somebody Else" and another Screen Song I can't remember. Well, "we"... most of the audience there is French speaking, so having them sing-along a not-so-recent American song is not an easy thing. But even with the couple of dozen who *did* sing, it was a great experience! All those Screen Songs should be restored, and screened like that!
This is brilliant! Loved it from beginning to end. It's like one big experiment into animation and humour. You might get a few hits from Australia now as the floods have wiped out 75% of our banana supply!
Why is it that I find these and the Aesop's Fables ("Sugar Coated Pills Of Wisdom") so much more imaginative than the carteeon that Disney was doing about the same time? I am less concerned with the crudeness of the animation (which is charming actually) than I am about the moment by moment creativity in these.
Great . It certainly is well detailed & drawn. BUT... Why was this song recorded at such a glacial pace? I've never heard it played this slow anywhere else... Thanks so much for allowing us TH-camrs to share it w/ you!
FUNNY WAY of putting it--"YES! WE have no bananas!" My brother and I used to think it was a stupid way of putting it(YES, there are no bananas), first time we heard this song(we had watched another cartoon, by Paramount, in affiliation with Casper and Company, which also had made a number of the old "Bouncing Ball"cartoons), BUT, again, that actually IS the way the song goes, FUNNY though it might sound, in more ways than one. Thanks for posting-very reminiscent, of the era--I can tell that was recorded on one of those old records, which could be played as fast as 78 rpm!
According to a frame of the theatricals title I have of "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles", Fleischer didn't show the animator credits in the theatrical titles aswell. Just "A Paramount Sound Novelty" and a credit to Paramount Productions Staff.
I sure would like to have some bananas but I'm dying and don't have the strength to walk to the store...and I can't order anything on my phone because they won't deliver to me...and I'm so happy to be able to leave this stinking rotten earth before the shit hits the fan...I know where I'm going and know where I've been...I WILL NEVER TURN TO LOOK BACK! CAROLE BARBUTO
I love BOOMERANG--I jsut wish they'd put the Looney Tunes back on..I love Pink Panther but it's too much I also wish they'd show the Black and White Popeye;s
A friend of my younger brother's imagined a scenario where a customer in a fruit store asks,"There aren't any Bananas?"and the reply;"Yes,we have no Bananas."
@RockinEd Yes it is pretty horrible, I'm awful for making light of it. Was feeling like looking at something funny after days of depressing news. Funny that the price of bananas is making headlines... We raised $10,000 at a charity auction at work last night - that should buy a few bananas ;-)

Ever heard Spike Jones and the City Slickers' cover of this song?
it was on the stooges

I mean for 87 years old, the animation is great!
April 26, 1930 - and the animators rarely got credit back then.
Imagine a whole movie audience singing along to this in 1930. You wouldn't see todays movie goers do that!
Didn’t people watch this on their tvs?
@@TheRafark not in 1930
I have shown these on movie nights with a crowd before. If one person starts singing, usually most others did too.
@@TheRafark tvs weren't popular until the 60's

April 25, 1930 was 8 months before Flagg Coal Company #75 was built by Vulcan Iron Works, for the Flagg Coal Company of Avoca, PA.

That cartoon was slightly scary... I was like, "What drug were they on?"

So primitive, yet so fun!

My best guess is the animators were Max and Dave Fleischer the original creators of the screen songs in 1926

Another UM&M butchering of the original Paramount titles, after the studio had to sell off old films in the early 50's to be shown on television.
Reminds me of Kidsongs: Baby Animal Songs, I like that version better.
