This was the first video I’ve seen of yours. So helpful! While not my style, I love the reminder to let watercolor do IT’S thing…let it be watercolor. Thank you for sharing!
Pretty sure I know that boat. Are you are Riverside Park in Gillingham? On the peninsula out to Horrid Hill? And yeah, the painting. It's a style that creates "happy little accidents" and once you spot that the accident today is a huge herd of elephants in the sky, you can't unsee it and the painting takes on a whole new character.
Thankyou so much Chris, amazing how you get done with a painting so quickly. Even after 36 years of painting, my brush to paper isn't as confident as yours. Fantastic work as always, and a very intriguing style. I will give this ago.
@ChrisStephenArt I've jaffa am urge to have another go with oils, but I'm holding back at the moment. That's a really good idea and can see the logic in that.
Chris, this is fantastic! I absolutely love the semi-abstract approach. Please keep creating more in this spontaneous style-it’s so inspiring and sparks even more ideas to explore this beautiful medium. Thanks so much for sharing this!
@@BalajiPadmanaban-u7m Hi Balaji, I’m glad you liked it. I enjoy painting in this style myself, so will definitely do more in the near future. All the best, Chris
A lovely piece of work once again and a whole lot of great advise . Clearly you’re a keen observer of the natural landscapes around us , it shows too because for me it’s as if I’ve seen the scene before , they appear authentic to nature which they definitely are . And yes you do make it look easy , which we all know isn’t . Brilliant all day long . Thanks for posting and inspiring.
I love the lose sky, it does make an impact. I spend a lot of time looking at the sky, and it does really look like rain off into the distance. Then the foreground has more form, but still lose. Amazing painting. Thank you so much
Thank you for another great demo with a beautiful result! I must admit that, for some reason, my own aesthetic sensibilities are really wanting even just a couple of tiny smudges of green in the foreground near the boat … which is very oddly specific, but there you go!😂😂😂
This style is unmistakably chrisstephenart 😂 ...love it so much ! By the way...I used your beautiful winter card prints in my Christmas decorations...very very nice 👍! Have a nice first weekend of Advent 🕯 🙋♀️
I just found your channel, very interesting style. It's exciting any interesting to look at. Also loose, which makes it more fun for the artist. Subscribed.
@ChrisStephenArt My mistake. I must have been thinking of another video, in which you mentioned a reference photo and its rendering on Instagram, so l can follow your work there as well. I do like your approach to teaching.
This is what watercolor is for! A series of brushstrokes to magically become something 😍 Leave the photo-realism to photographers
Thanks so much, Kathy. I couldn’t agree more !!

Yes, near Horrid Hill. Obviously lots of artistic license

@ChrisStephenArt do you get out much for plein air?
@elizabethsolart I try to, as much as possible. Watercolour in Spring and Summer, Oils in Autumn and Winter.
@ChrisStephenArt I've jaffa am urge to have another go with oils, but I'm holding back at the moment. That's a really good idea and can see the logic in that.
I really like painting plein air with oils. You don’t have any drying issues.

I love this style it’s really moody and interesting.
Thank you Jennifer
You are a fabulous teacher!! Thank you so much! From Montana, USA.
That’s very kind of you to say. Thank you
I can see a face in the clouds! Mid centre horizon- nose, eyes either side. Very still scene, calm before the storm
Well spotted !!
Me too. I see one up higher, towards the left, as well.
Now I can't unsee it! 👁️👃🏻👁️
Another lovely piece of artwork.
Thank you so much
The expression ...a threatening sky..fits this perfectly. Fantastic and you made it look so simple. Thank you.
Thanks so much, glad you liked it
Great guidance throughout! And of course a stunning result. Much appreciated, thank you!
Thanks Sewall, I’m glad you like it !!

Thanks Anthony. I’m always looking for the next painting, luckily there’s a never ending source of inspiration out there !!

You’re welcome Linda. Thank you for watching

Thanks Felicity. By all means, paint a version with green in the foreground. I’d like to see that !! 😊

Wow... fantastic as always..... thank you
Thanks Ralph
Like that mist bottle, wonder if you can tell us about it.
Sure, it’s an orchid mist bottle. It came from a garden centre
Just found you. Have subscribed!
Great !! Thanks so much
I would dearly have loved to see the reference photo, to imagine how l might have approached it in comparison.
I didn’t use a reference photo for this. It was based on another painting that I did a while back. It’s on my Instagram, if you would like to see it

Chris, do you stretch your paper prior to painting or are you you using one of these heavyweight papers or card?
I rarely stretch paper in the studio. I occasionally stretch it for plein air. I used 140lb cotton paper
