This year I made it a goal to go to more cultural exhibits, and I would like to continue that in 2024. I plan to learn Spanish, and to read more psychology.
I'm only starting this video, but I love the 2 books a month idea. That is more realistic than what we usually see. Also, the 1 new/1 reread is genius! You won't get discouraged if you're not enjoying the new one, because you have your tried-and-true to fall back on. I'm in desperate need of comfort reads these days, so I am rereading Little Women. I love it.
this year, in terms of biographies, I read Prairie Fires: The Late American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff. both were great reads
I enjoyed this video, both the content and the multiple angles! I consider myself a lover of reading, but I've never been much of a rereader, so I've made a resolution for that. It'll be a decade next year since I first fell in love with the author Natsume Soseki, so I'm planning to reread a loose trilogy of his I read early on. Can't wait to see how my relationship with the books has changed!
This was a very inspiring video. Thank you. You’re very lucky you’re a fast reader. I have a book titled, ‘How to be a Genius: Brain training for the idle mind’ by Robert Allen. On page 53 to be exact, on the topic of speed reading, it states that slow readers fix on 1 to 2 words (or 100 words per minute) and speed readers fix on 3 to 6 words (or 1000 words per minute). This is because speed readers utilise their peripheral vision horizontally and vertically in addition to the central focus. As a slower reader, I’m trying to fix on greater number of words when I read. Yes, I too am interested in annotation, especially annotation that has a system or structure. I’ve recently applied to do my Masters (part-time) starting Semester two in 2024. I enjoy learning, so I’m looking forward to starting this next level of tertiary Education. My main focus over the last few years has been reading children’s classics I didn’t read in my youth. I recently read ‘Peter Pan’ based on your feedback a few videos ago and I must say, even though the story line was good, it was a bit more action packed than I realised and Tinkerbell wasn’t as nice a fairy as I had imagined. I gave it a seven out of ten. Despite this lowish score, I’m glad I read it. So thank you for your review : ) I’m currently trying to finish the Narnia series, in between lots of other reading, including The Professor, I recently bought and received in the post, as influenced by your recent book review. This is why I wish I was a speed reader, then I could get through so many more books. Anyway, thank you for this inspiring video and the newsletter you sent out. Until your next video, wishing you and your husband a very happy Christmas 🎄
I never knew those facts about speed reading - so interesting! Wow, so exciting that you hope to continue your education - I wish you all the best! Haha the original Peter Pan is indeed different than some later renditions, but it's still dear to my heart. Awesome to hear you're reading Narnia, I've been working my way through that series this Christmas as well! And so glad to hear you've explored The Professor, I hope you found it interesting! All the best and merry Christmas to you! 🎄
I really enjoyed this video! My reading goals are a little different than in the past. I'm wanting to work on diversifying my author and genre pool. The genres I want to try this year are: Horror (please don't judge).😂 Historical fiction. Maybe sci-fi. Nonfiction. Philosophy The authors I'm wanting to try are: Elizabeth Gaskell. Terri Blackstock. Flannery O'Connor. John Steinbeck. I want to read more contemporary books too. I'm doing Chantel Read All Day's DIY Victorian Lit Degree so I've been reading a lot of Victorian books and that's continuing on into 2024.
That looks like a great list! I haven't read all those authors but I can't recommend Flannery O'Connor and John Steinbeck enough! Also love the idea of the DIY degree - I'd love to look into that more! All the best to you this year!
@@cleopatrickk Awesome I've heard only good things about O'Connor but my mom hates Steinbeck.😂 Me and my mom generally have really different tastes though so I'll probably love him. Chantel has a whole video about her DIY Lit Degree on her TH-cam channel.
@@cleopatrickk I look forward to it. I just started a giant reading collection and I resonated with what you said about feeling alone in your interests after school. It would be nice to have a community where we could all talk about books/ideas

Sounds like a great plan!

Well said! Aw Little Women is one of my favorites too; such a comforting, nostalgic tale. Enjoy! 📚
Im glad I stumbled across this channel while looking for book collections. You have a wise understanding of tradition and morality.
This was brilliant and i agree with everything!! You've inspired me!
Glad to hear it! Merry Christmas!

Oo I love the sound of both of those 🙌

Do you have a discord server? It would be nice have a book group to talk and share what we all read.
I don't yet, but that's definitely something I want to look into!
