I love the fact that Mycroft does not say a word during the whole clip. You know what's funny... I think Sherlock was going to let her win but decided not to after being heartbroken by her words. While Mycroft and Irene could not see it, the viewers are seeing Sherlock's transition from calm to sadness to anger. His quote about sentiment shows this. His feelings were blinding him from winning and putting down Irene's mischief. This is when Irene realized what she did.
When she said "you're right" Sherlock was shocked and he thought she was going to admit that she loves him. But then she didn't. Well at least not verbally
Am I the only one that always finds this scene so sad? He falls in love with this women and finds out she was just using him so he has to use his smarts to give a reason why he fell for her. Thus losing the women he truly loved and having to putt on a strong face.
Yeah, it's incredibly sad for both of them. Finding someone you love who understands and challenges and ALSO utterly loves you is the rarest thing in the world. Walking away from it would be heartbreaking.
But then he saves her, lol. I mean, she even texts him "happy birthday" in the 4th season. Sure it's a sad scene, but you gotta look at the whole picture.
At this point in the episode it is sad since he essentially has to expose her frailties which she normally hides from the world thus returning her to the person she was before she became a Dominatrix. It's no secret that people in a position of power use it as a shield to hide their true selves. Normally due to some traumatic event in their childhood which made them swear to never be in that situation again. Thankfully due to this being a TV show, she gets a happy ending when he rescues her.
Thank you for posting one of the greatest moments in entertainment history. Plays like a symphonic climax. This show has many truly inspired segments. This is one of the best.
So if she had just picked random characters instad of picking something guessable so that the show could happen, then Mycroft would have fucked up everything.
