I was taught in a knife fight expect to be cut. You should always direct your knife away from your body. If you’re not prepared. That’s as far as I got in self defense training so I can’t say anything more about it. My teacher always had us running so I think maybe the best thing to do in most situations is to get away from a problematic situation like he says. Create some distance and get away.
Knife? Most knife attackers focus on their only one weapon. I have ten weapons, hands, fingers, ellbows, knees etc. You come with your knife against me? You will leave in a coffin.

This won’t work if the blades edge is pointed downward, the welder will automatically pull back in reflex of your movement and cut your arm or wrist. You can slip to the left and they will turn with you and cut you as they turn around. Pain is the only thing that will distract the welder, blocking and a shot to the throat, eyes, balls. Knees if you manage to block it with two hands. And if you have a gun blocking and a push kick will give you time to draw, running won’t unless you are a track star lol Slipping and running will put your back to the attacker and render you more vulnerable that you was at the start.
If they’re running at you with a knife and they’re less than 21’ from you, you are dead by the time you get your gun out and aimed. It’s a standard rule for police to stand at LEAST 21’ away from any person armed with a knife or sharp object. Learned that from Donut Operator’s channel

Please contact a gentleman that is here on TH-cam that offered $10,000 to anyone that can actually defend against him slashing or stabbing them with a knife. His channel is FightSmartTrav, and there is a video there where he had an open challenge to a gentleman with Funker Tactical, as well as two others in the knife defense videos who were stated to be experts in knife fighting, where he would video the entire session, and give anyone $10,000 that defended against his attacks.

Not helpless, just need to be realistic. If you plan to run, make sure you work on your cardio. Nothing worse than planning on running away from your opponent and they can out run you.
Be sure in a real situation to ask the guy trying to kill you while he is standing still with his hand raised if he would like a glass of water or maybe something to eat or even better how his day was!!! WHACK MARTIAL ARTS
