Been buying salvaged cars for many years, it’s all I buy own drive and sell to friends and family. Cause I don’t drive the title and am not afraid to change a bumper a headlight a hood or a fender...
All my personal cars with the exception of 2 have always been salvaged cars. My current 2015 Canyon was a salvaged title. Can be a great deal if you know what to look for and not get bitten.
Great video. On the subject of why was it totaled: had a lady come into our Honda dealer with a new CRV. 1500 miles. She left the sunroof open during a rail storm. All kinds of warning lights on and electrical freakout. GEICO adjuster came to look at it. Totaled it on the spot based on his passed experience with dash electronics getting wet. We were a little shocked but there you go. Had a similar situation with the same model about a year later. 25,000 miles on the car, Customer didn’t want to go through insurance. We stripped the interior to dry it out. Replaced 2 control modules and the interior wiring harness and the car was fine. Now, at our shop rate the bill was $1000, but still. Far from totaled.
My daily is salvage rare tsx 6 speed manual.. but have fun getting insurance to pay ANYTHING out on an accident on a salvage. I've been down that road..
My dad has a body shop and a dealer license. In his small town there was no where to rent a car while yours was getting fixed so he started renting the clipped cars, low mileage late models and the renter never knew the car had a past. Just like the cars ed likes to rent.
My 95 Mustang has a salvage title. I had just restored it for my wife and a woman rear ended me in it in 2010. Being it was a 95 of course the insurance company totaled it despite having less than 3000 miles on the new engine and transmission. bought it back for a grand and had the body shop fix her back up and it's still at my house today. Runs like a champ. Talking with the body shop guys they replaces the rear bumper mounts, a few braces and the bumper covers. Shot some Sonic Blue paint on the new pieces and boom she was fixed. I think there are a lot of good deals out there where insurance companies just rubber stamp claims when the vehicle could be fixed cheaper than totaling it but they dont want to invest the time.
My first body shop job was at a salvage car body shop. He owned a tote your note dealership. Shady, didn’t even come close. But paid me on time every time. Was pretty good with a frame machine. But glad I left and went on to other paint and body shops. Learned a lot from him.
My wife daily drives our salvage titled Saab. Picked it up with low miles for half the blue book. Fixed a few poor repairs to the body and 50k miles and 2 years later it’s still going strong.
When I was doing body work professionally, the place I worked at made our courtesy cars from insurance auction buys. The one I remember the most was a Honda accord that we used the rear clip off of... It was in a front end crash on the way home from the grocery store, a package of chicken legs slipped under the rear seat, the car sat in the yard until summer! The smell when the car was rolled into my parts painting booth was awesome! It was the only time I put 3 coats of clear on the inside of a car!
My dad would buy ford escorts that have been smashed from rear end collisions , cut them in half and weld in a new rear clip from a front in collision car. he would have$3000 in a car that had only 2000 miles. And then drive the wheels off of them.
I worked for a small time dealer that did salvage cars. The only issue was they didn’t fix them right and they didn’t care. I only worked there a few months and left.
I definitely agree about salvage cars I got a 02 Honda civic for 800 dollars bc it had a salvage title was a amazing running car drove it till I lost a motor stuck another one in it and sold it and make money on it and my current daily a 06 superduty is a salvage title truck main reason I got it was nobody would touch it bc of its title and owner was tired of it and sold it to me cheap truck has been a sold rig
I fixed and drove "fixed"cars all thru 80s and 90s. I didn't have to try and sell them, someone would see me driving it or their friend would tell them about the wrecked car they had bought from me years ago, sold. Had lots of fun and made a lot of friends. Still buy them from my friend with a tow yard.
Best purchase I’ve ever made with a car is my Buick, salvage title, 92K miles, 06 lacrosse mint. 92K on it, paid $1000 for it over a year ago, still rockin and all I’ve done to it is change the oil baby.
That was a nice GTO! Looking for one like that! Wish I had saw this a year ago! Keep ‘em coming Rabbit! King Of Story Time! Your more entertaining than that Big Ass Book they used to bring to Elementary School! Lmao! Yeah I’m 44 not many people nowadays know about the Big Book!!! Lol
I bought a cheap S10 at salvage auction few years ago. 250k miles, hit a deer, busted grill, lights and knocked radiator support back. Now it has new grill and lights, same bent up rad support, 318k miles and counting...
Yeppers rabbit 🙃 . Got a great deal on a loaded 06' Tucson gls sport w/ a salvage title due to fairly minor damage on the rear corner that cleaned up nicely. It's Danny a great daily driver for a couple years now 🙃 ..
Back “ in the day” I used to install a lot of pop up sunroofs in cars that were “clipped” . VW Rabbits were popular for that. The sunroof eliminated a lot of welding. A friend of mine bought a MG that was made out of two cars, one day her mom rear ended another car and the MG broke in half!
my salvage story: bought a 2007 Altima 2.5S for $800 off a guy. Got T-boned by a tahoe at a 4 way. No frame damage, got it aligned and on the road. Put 2 junker doors on it and drove it for about 18 months without an issue, got T-boned again six inches away from the original impact point by a dodge journey at a 5 way. Drove it home, its sitting in my grandma's driveway while im at trade school. Love it more than my 99 ram 5 speed, nothing slows it down. Dont tell my insurance or the DMV, they think its been repaired by a dealership both times.
I usually buy problem childs, a lot of wrecks drive better than new because the factory f-ups get fixed at the body shops. Bought a 88 Bonneville in 90, bumped drivers side, fender, hood headlight. Found the rattle when we fixed it, 10mm in the factory fender.
I worked at a L-M Point that was the flagship dealer for a small group in Florida . Our body shop would tell the tail about a Mercedes SL that he knew of that "took a swim" in salt water. When it got pulled out the owner dragged it home and dropped it in his swimming pool until he had accommodations to get it repaired. The body/restoration shop stated the fresh water soak after the salt bath probably saved it.
I once bought an otherwise perfect 74 impala for $400 that was driven to church on Sundays. The only problem was that the lady parked it under a car port where the rain poured right on the rear quarter making a 2 foot diameter rust hole from the vinyl top to the top of the fender. I used chicken wire, duct tape and bondo to perfectly fill the void inside and out. I matched the paint and glued the vinyl top back down and the car looked perfect. Low mileage 350CI V8 I put a nice stereo in it, wheels off of a 95 suburban and converted it to R34 and it was a sweet ride. I drove it for three years and ended up selling it for what I paid.
Pretty much all I buy is salvage vehicles, got a guy that tells you to pick the truck or car you want, then they fix it. You know exactly what your buying and it’s about 1/2 price of a virgin title vehicle.
Used to buy and flip front end dmg Pontiacs with my buddy back in the early 2000's. Just Pontiacs. We always put the back to stock, with the exception of some funky paint jobs (ghost flames ets) on a few ;) brings back memories! And F water cars!
First family I married into about half of them were in the auto body repair bidness. Late 70s, they were 3hrs west of DFW and the big auction yards. 75%of the cars they rebuilt were chops. Front half and back half. We got married she had a 76 Grand Prix. Brand new Sears radials were wearing out in about 3000 mi. Always noticed the carpet looked twisted. Pulled up the carpet in the back and there was a booger weld running all the way across.
As long as it's not a flood, I don't mind a salvage title if I can get a good look underneath. You can get a great deal. But a flooded car is the worst. You will have problems with it sooner or later if the smell doesn't kill you.
I’ve been rolling a salvage Subaru (basically got a fender punched in that pulled back out, and a few scratches) for 5 years. It’s 15 years out and been great, gonna run it until it rust away.
Let's not forget that sometimes them old salvage cars can damn near make you a millionaire. Especially when you have a TH-cam channel. Just to the south and west of you, Rob at the Georgia, Tennessee line. There's a couple of brothers that have made serious bank from salvage cars. They also have a friend with a frame machine who's currently restoring a Mc Laren. Don't let anyone try to tell you there ain't no value in them there salvage cars!
@@rabbits_used_cars Knowing that is the Gods honest truth. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. I'm not going to come on your channel to pimp someone else's, even if they are a couple of Southern boys. But they damn sure parlayed their act into some serious money. A buddy and I used to hit a little car auction in Billings Mt and since we were both mechanics and wheeler dealers we'd come away with the best cars cheap then have to beat the local dealers off with a stick.. but never kept a one
As someone who has dabbled in the salvage repair game.... water cars can be great flips IF DONE CORRECTLY. But the time, money, and migraine medicine involved to do it correctly will land you in an AA meeting before the end of the first week. And when he was talking about the sand coming out? 10000% true. Did a Jeep Grand Cherokee that got trapped on the beach, flooded when the tide came in. To this day, there is still sand coming out of the frame rails.
Late model GTO’s with salvage titles are only number 2 to V8 mustang’s with salvage titles! But nice buy on that little modern hot Rod there Rob. I’m sure you got it for less then what was spent under the damn hood
Copart bought Universal Salvage Auctions in the UK and rebranded it Copart Damn I miss buying slightly damaged older cars for £13-£14 yes £13-£14 in the last year of the 90’s and selling the, for £99 drive away That’s like $150 today, where you gonna get a car with a bent bumper but full tank and new tyres for £13 today😂
Bought a 2013 GTI a few years back out of Atlanta. As I tore the front end apart to change the timing chain tensioner I discovered the car had a front end off of a white GTI welded onto it. They even went as far as engraving the vin number on the quarter panel rails of the replacement front end. It was a good car, but we sold it after that, and bought a new Golf. Damn folks can be sketchy. Our lesson was to hell with the carfax. Give me an hour and a good flashlight to inspect on.
Carfax is like pissing into the wind. I've seen high dollar cars that have a good carfax but have been chopped, sliced, diced, you name it but nothing on Carfax!
I know I am late getting into this I am from fl and we have always stayed away from. Water cars. To try and fix at least years ago. Fl Water damage normally ment 4 things someone got stuck on the beach and the tie came in Dog deer hunters tryed to cross a mud whole that was deeper than the truck A boat launch that launched the truck to Or a hurricane that brought in a flood of salt water
Salvage Title doesn't always mean stay away. My mom found an 89 Ford AREOSTAR Mini van with less than 60.000 miles. It was a salvage title vehicle. New grill, Bumper and radiator that was all they replaced. Nothing was bent which made it interesting. Minor front end damage had the insurance company total it out. twenty one hundred dollars later it was moms. Drove nice never any issues
Took a chance years back , didnt have tons of money, did some research and found out toyota tacomas were very reliable ...........so i searched around and found 1998 4 cyl. tacoma 76,000 miles that was mint , ran great , and there were not many around with low miles and great condition ...............only thing that bugged me was that it had a "salvage title"......but I bought it any way , it was the best car I ever owned !!!!...I put 170,000 + miles on that car ......during that tine the only thing i needed to do to it was couple of sets of brakes, tires, a battey and a starter (wich i rebuilt my self with a $4 kit off ebay )..........I got into a little accident and smashed the right fender , bumper and headlight area.....wound up..selling. it to someone else , but it still ran great ..!!!!!!!!.............Erik
The shady dealer hiding a salvage car is the one to worry about is more of a problem then the stamp on the title. I’ve totaled 2 cars, and rebuilt them before deciding they weren’t quite right and selling them with a clean title. Now salvage is in my wheel house. More vehicle then I can afford. I’m currently running an 08 Silverado 2500 I bought for 4K, I invested 1k, and I will spend 1k in the spring for body parts to make it look right. I remember around 1998 the Chevy dealer had s-10’s for 2500-4000 new as is. They spent somewhere under 30 days submerged in the Mississippi. I didn’t buy one. I even asked the salesman if that was the final price, and it was.
I had a , 95 ragtop Mustang w a salvage title. I drove it 4 years year round in MT. My daughter wrecked it in high school. Only issue i ever had was i had to replace the mass airflow sensor. I miss that car lol
As long as they use a PDR guy, a guy I work with bought a repaired hail damaged Holden Commodore (same as that gto but a sedan) looked pretty good when he got it, two years later ever panel was covered in egg shaped cracks, someone had just used filler and re sprayed it. Worked out well for me, bought it cheap as chips, put the manual transmission into a base model automatic sedan I got cheap with a blown trans, put the new shocks and springs he put in it, put the ss interior in mine too, parted out the rest and made enough to rebush the whole front and rear suspension and fit a new radiator. Kept the lights ,mirrors some trim and bumpers. Scrapped the rest and got me a set of tyres Now I'm into this VT executive sedan for about a grand all up and it's exactly how I would have ordered it from the factory 20 years ago..
My Crossfire was made into a "Salvage" title because the repair was more than a percentage of the value of the car. Got it fixed and drive it all the time. 12500 miles on it when I got it, and now at 16500. Drives and feels new. See my little vid playlist if you like. Edit: It's not for sale.
I use to have a 04 gto that use to haul ass. Did a baby cam rockers, springs, and 3.91's got me to 12.1 at 114.35. Loved that car wish I could find it again. Rob if you ever come across a yellow 04 gto with a sunroof let me know cause if its mine you want that engine!!!

RIP Rabbit. You will be missed!
My dad would buy ford escorts that have been smashed from rear end collisions , cut them in half and weld in a new rear clip from a front in collision car. he would have$3000 in a car that had only 2000 miles. And then drive the wheels off of them.
My salvage TC is the best car I've owned over the last 18 years. I bought a salvage Avalanche because I loved it so much!
I worked for a small time dealer that did salvage cars. The only issue was they didn’t fix them right and they didn’t care. I only worked there a few months and left.
My favorite storyteller
I definitely agree about salvage cars I got a 02 Honda civic for 800 dollars bc it had a salvage title was a amazing running car drove it till I lost a motor stuck another one in it and sold it and make money on it and my current daily a 06 superduty is a salvage title truck main reason I got it was nobody would touch it bc of its title and owner was tired of it and sold it to me cheap truck has been a sold rig
Was buying Katrina Cars which were all water loses. Some didn't have water to the rotors. Others had mud in the head liner... Lol
Lol
50 % of my inventory is salvaged title, i only do mild front-end cars, 80 % of the time we win, its the hidden damage that kills me! Get show today!!
Problem now days, most insurance companies won’t touch a re-built salvage titled car for full coverage. Sort of kills there re-sale market.
EVERY SECOND OF THAT VIDEO WAS PERFECT
I bought a cheap S10 at salvage auction few years ago. 250k miles, hit a deer, busted grill, lights and knocked radiator support back. Now it has new grill and lights, same bent up rad support, 318k miles and counting...
Love these GTO's!
straya m8. It's a Holden Monaro, with Pontiac badges.
Im from Baltimore Maryland and I can say everything this man says in knowledge in the used car world 🌍
Yeppers rabbit 🙃 . Got a great deal on a loaded 06' Tucson gls sport w/ a salvage title due to fairly minor damage on the rear corner that cleaned up nicely. It's Danny a great daily driver for a couple years now 🙃 ..
Great video love your channel, Merry Christmas 🎄
That's a Holden Commodore; one of the best and most under-rated muscle cars GM ever built. and the factory built a 427 CID version to boot.
Back “ in the day” I used to install a lot of pop up sunroofs in cars that were “clipped” . VW Rabbits were popular for that. The sunroof eliminated a lot of welding. A friend of mine bought a MG that was made out of two cars, one day her mom rear ended another car and the MG broke in half!
my salvage story:
bought a 2007 Altima 2.5S for $800 off a guy.
The body/restoration shop stated the fresh water soak after the salt bath probably saved it.
if cars could talk...
Rob would still sell the hell of 'em
If cars could talk Rabbit would triple what he would have gotten simply because of the fact it talks
Those cars would have “Lucas poured over rock chips” voice 😂😂😂
Damn rabbit done got my favorite car on the show love it?!!!
A good Aussie Holden Commodore exported the U s a as Pontiac, go like stink , also had 4x4 version
Rabbit 2020....."hair gel, I have plenty" "Cigarette Auqa Net, fake tan and all, hip hop Rabbit we love yall................StarDawg made me do it
How fucking awesome is it to find out rabbit has his own youtube channel! Instant subschribe
I’ve been in this game a long time. The south car game was built on salvage cars.....
@@rabbits_used_cars Knowing that is the Gods honest truth. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. I'm not going to come on your channel to pimp someone else's, even if they are a couple of Southern boys. But they damn sure parlayed their act into some serious money. RUC is tearing it up too, so it's all good 👍
A buddy and I used to hit a little car auction in Billings Mt and since we were both mechanics and wheeler dealers we'd come away with the best cars cheap then have to beat the local dealers off with a stick.. but never kept a one
I saw & heard this car last Sunday...it does sound like a tornado of "Bad-assery"
Ohh man salvage title.... Great episode brother!
Copart bought Universal Salvage Auctions in the UK and rebranded it Copart
Damn I miss buying slightly damaged older cars for £13-£14 yes £13-£14 in the last year of the 90’s and selling the, for £99 drive away
That’s like $150 today, where you gonna get a car with a bent bumper but full tank and new tyres for £13 today😂
I know I am late getting into this
I am from fl and we have always stayed away from. Water cars. To try and fix at least years ago.
Fl Water damage normally ment 4 things someone got stuck on the beach and the tie came in
Dog deer hunters tryed to cross a mud whole that was deeper than the truck
A boat launch that launched the truck to
Or a hurricane that brought in a flood of salt water
My grandfather once bought an entire train load of new Chryslers the only thing was the Train derailed. That keep him busy with a couple of months.
I have a 1999 honda odyssey that got totaled bc hail damage and it looks fine theres some slight dents on the hood
Hail damaged cars are usually safe to buy. That damage is mostly cosmetic.
The good PDR guys clean up on those
As long as they use a PDR guy, a guy I work with bought a repaired hail damaged Holden Commodore (same as that gto but a sedan) looked pretty good when he got it, two years later ever panel was covered in egg shaped cracks, someone had just used filler and re sprayed it. Scrapped the rest and got me a set of tyres
Now I'm into this VT executive sedan for about a grand all up and it's exactly how I would have ordered it from the factory 20 years ago..
Great Corvette story!
We all have been in crash or two.. just not the cars. Thanks N
