@@MilitaryArmamentsCompany Clint, Tele, Stuart Margolin, Carol O'connor, Don Rickles, Capt STUBBON and of course Donald Sutherland. These are the ones I recall of hand. Unbelievable cast. The future of movies and TV is showcased here.
Fun fact , Kellys Heroes was filmed in a small town of Vizinada in Croatia (former Yugoslavia) now every year ww2 airsofters and reeneactors do a ww2 kelly inspired battle in the middle of the town, right where the Bank and the "Tiger cowboy stand off" in the movie is. Right now the latest season of SaS Rouge heroes is filmed in the same place.
Ah, the memories. This is the very first ww2 movie me and my grandpa watched together. We watched it, every night it would come out, before he passed away when i was 10. Kelly's Heroes will always be the best ww2 movie for me.
Right on Brother...."Kelly's Heroes" is a Great WW2 movie...with a great cast. As an Aussie born in the early 70's it was (& still is) one of my favourite WW2 / Tanker movies. #Go Cav
Interesting facts (maybe) Many of the actors had military experience: Clint Eastwood -Army stateside during Korea Telly Savalas-Army WWII Don Rickles-Navy WWII Pacific Theater Appearing in theaters, even back then. Carroll O'Connor-WWII Merchant Marine Atlantic Harry Dean Stanton-WWII cook on landing craft at Okinawa Gavin Macleod-Air Force 1950s and of course later Captain of the Love Boat! 🚢
I believe Carroll O'Conner was also in either The Battle of the Bulge (movie) or "The Devil's Brigade". Telly Savalas delivered my favorite line in "The Battle of the Bulge". He deserved an Oscar for that one line: "When are they gonna let us fight?"... the pain in his voice... Harry Dean Stanton was also killed aboard the Nostromo (you know the movie), and was executed by Cuban mercenaries in "Red Dawn"
The two Tiger I replicas from Saving Private Ryan were stored at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England for a time, but they have apparently been sold and removed from the museum. It looks like one of the tanks may have found its way to the United States, as one was reportedly used for a reenactment of the Battle of Carentan in Monterey, California by the World War II Research and Preservation Society. An article on the reenactment indicates that the Tiger tank is owned by Joe Fazio of San Francisco.
One of my Favourite films of all time. I can remember my Mother taking me to see it in my home city of Liverpool. I was eleven years old. I must have seen it over twenty five times on Tv, it's still a classic to me, even today. Thanks Mum 🙏
I spent six years in the Army, in the Infantry. Three years in the Airborne Infantry, and three years in Mechanized Infantry and the scene where Oddballs men are first introduced is exactly how we thought of DATs (Our slang word for Tankers). I met one Tanker Sgt. who had a poster of Oddball in his room, and I wouldn't be surprised if he and a few others had a picture of him in their tanks.
I am with you sir, one of the best 'war' movies ever made, it was totally accurate in every way except the truth, bedt regards to all Kelly's Hero fans, bedt regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
A splendid cast - Crapgame, Kelly, Oddball, Big Joe, General Colt. A great story with the good guys getting away with the loot. Lots of action and that theme!!! Theres nothing to dislike about this movie
The tube to mimic a larger main gun on the tank was one of the unrealistic parts of the movie as the Shermans with the larger (British 17 pounder) gun drew more attention and fire. Some of the 17 pounder barrels were painted in a disruptive pattern (camouflage) to appear as the smaller and weaker gun to not draw attention.
Kelly’s Heroes isn’t just a good WW2 movie it’s a great movie period. Great characters, great dialogue, great soundtrack and great action. Definitely in my top ten.
@@MilitaryArmamentsCompanyI don’t know what your channel can support, but hearing your thoughts from a historical technical perspective is cool. If any you guys are tankers, I’d be curious to hear your take on the engagements in Fury.
My first motorbike was an MZ from Zwickau. Absolutely loved it. Super quirky and easy to maintain and fix. Also had Jawa's & CZ's from Chechoslovakia, and a Jupiter motorbike from Russia. Brilliant fun. :)
Only problem with the '90 mm pipe' is that it's not as long as the tank's actual barrel. One thing I've always been curious about is the small ring bulge around the end of the barrel. What purposes did it serve? Not sure about tanks, but paint-bearing shells were a thing in naval combat during WW2. The Japanese heavy Naval shells contained paint along with the warhead/payload; different ships used different colors, mainly for shot tracking and marking. What I don't know is how tank crews in the field could've made their own paint shells.
Great questions there. The post war Yugoslavian Sherman's seen here had a 76mm US gun crammed into a 75mm style turret. To explain the longer gun in the film on an early war tank the pipe excuse was used, exceptionally well done creative liberty by the art department, vehicle crew whoever. A paint round could be very easily made from a HE or Smoke/ Illumination round by gutting the explosive component and filling that cavity with paint. The Ring on the end of the barrel I assume your talking about the British style firefly muzzle break? US 75mm had no muzzle break and the 76mm had a big baffle block style.
7:11 the standard M2 does show up in the movie on one of the half tracks and the many background shermans. Yugoslavia would even mount the M2 on T-34-85’s as seen in Misfit Brigade.
I enjoy this movie because it captures the feeling of infantry. I was a 91A in Iraq, was in combat and got the CMB. It's accurate in how it portrays men who fight in war.
What i find interesting about the Tiger replicas in Kelly heroes is the commanders cupola, it looks like the real deal early style cupola as well as the hatch on it, that or they really dug in deep researching for the restoration.
Could possible have real tiger parts. I have since learned those Tiger T34s went back into service and were reconverted back to service configuration. Then potentially scrapped or sold off as a T34.
The missing Tigers might have found their way somewhere in the Palestine region among the waring states down there, before soviet support and equipment had stated to arrive
Sorry dude, but the 76mm gun was added in the U.S. during the early 1950's as part of the upgrade program for the Mutual Defense Assistance Program. The upgraded M4A3's that the Yugoslavians used were designated M4A3E4. Hundreds of M4A3(75)W were converted to E4. Along with Yugoslavia, Denmark, India, and Pakistan received them as well.
Ha! is this the part where we get all pissed off and butthurt? I had trouble finding information on those Shermans, someone had told me that only Yugo had those. I also didnt look all that hard, that footage was filmed as part of several hours of each of us covering a dozen tank films. That day was information overload.
@@MilitaryArmamentsCompany Denmark, India and Pakistan also used those. IIRC Pakistani and Indian ones were based on M4A1 cast hulls, while Danish and Yugoslav were M4A3 hulls. As for Tiger mockups, they were originally made for "The Battle of Neretva" movie, and were also used for a few more Yugoslav war movies. Exact fate of those is unknown, but they were most probably scrapped with the rest of T-34s in second part of 1990s. There are also few more odd things, BAR is Polish wz.28 due the lack of US M1918, "M1911s" pistols are either ViS-35 or Star B, sniper uses Mosin sniper, as there was no 1903 sniper in Yugoslavia. At the time of filming, Shermans were still in use in Yugoslavia, through on their way out of service, being only used in Tank Bns of Infantry divisions.. Oddball's Sherman survived and is currently exhibited at Novi Sad Petrovaradin Fortress Museum, minus movie mods.
The Tiger-34s were already basically built for a previous Yugoslav film The Battle of Neretva, which starred big Western names such as Orson Wells and Yul Brynner. The Kelly's Heroes production crew then acquired them and further spruced them up. They remained in Yugoslavia.
Goodbye “Oddball “ you were a…shall we say “unique “WW2 Tank Platoon Commander, but you participated in the Greatest Bank Robbery in cinematic history (though I think buying that Tiger Tank for an undisclosed amount of gold was a bad investment.)PS..i can hear Oddball saying…ALWAYS WITH THE NEGATIVE WAVES MORIARTY!!!😂😂😂😂
Yep. The 'Tigers' were actually T34s in party frocks. Tigers were front drive and the T34s had rear drive sprockets. It's still a favourite film. I wanted to get dressed up as Oddball, as I had a mate in Northern Ireland a few years back who was restoring a Sherman and I wanted to play. "I'm ringing you from a cafe in a lttle town called Missouri." 'Missouri? Say I've got a map around here that says we haven't even captured that place yet.' "So I heard. But everyone seems very friendly." - Etc.

Amusing how a comedy like Kelly's Heroes is more accurate in its depiction of tanks than serious movies like Patton.
