I really like the explanation of the chords on the piano. Those are some beautiful chords. I learn about Bobby from a NPR series might have been called Jazz Legneds. Bobby was one of the greats.
You really gave me "Breaking News" on this one, because this masterpiece song is not on a Bobby Hutcherson album. You know you're a real legend anytime you steal the show on somebody else's song.Thank You‼️
Tim. You are great. I know you're a baseball guy so I'm gonna give it to you straight. When Billy Beane was in the minors he roomed with Lenny Dykstra. They had to face Steve Carlton the next day. Beane prepared video tape and studied Carlton the night before until 2AM and went to bed tired. Dykstra came home drunk and said the next morning, who's he, I'm gonna crush him and went 4 for 4. Beane struck out 4 times. Time for you to step up to the plate and swing the bat. Write and play your music. NOW. Every moment is precious. Embrace your moment.
In this video, I was using the mallets I almost always use, innovative Percussion, RS 251. But you’ll notice that when I actually play, the resonators are not on the instrument. So it’s a lot more percussive sounding.
I am curious: Do you use any methods to slow speed down to pick out notes of fast phrases? Or have developed ability to hear that entire phrase quickly?
I actually learned this solo years and years ago... for that one spot with the Dm/Fm6/Bbm over Ab - I used TH-cam at 75% speed to really check the notes as best as I could.
Thanks Tim, For me, learning how to capture a Jazz solo seems like a black art. I like to watch and listen to your analysis of these solos. I am imagining there is some way you instantly hear the phrases, but I have not been able to replicate that skill. I will try 75% but feel I might need 25%! I once had pleasure of meeting Michael White who told me he set (vinyl) record speed to 78 while transcribing some Coltrane which dropped them an octave.
There is a great app call Transcribe that lets you slow down the tempo of any piece of music without changing the pitch. I use constantly to learn music off of recording.
You mean to tell me an album called “The Procrastinator” was recorded in 1967, but wasn’t released until 1978? What a perfectly titled album!
I know right?
Tranes untitled original, 11383 was just released about a year ago.
Honestly!!
His phrasing is nuts
Herbie's comping here swings so. effing. hard.

My favorite musician of all time!! I loved his long clean lines of improvisation...he was like a horn player.
I like BH solo in the title track better. One of my favorite Lee Morgan albums. Ron Carters bass really pulled me in
this album. start to finish. just perfect!
Yeah!!! This is a killing tune. The Wayne Shorter solo is also amazing.
The whole track is just insane!
@@TimCollinsVibes agreed.
Whoa!

great insight!
I agree with the guy for Inside Jazz Guitar. Whoa!
Decidedly high-fiber content for 7 1/2 minutes! I await your exegesis of "Herzog."
What a great solo. I never heard this before. Thanks Tim.
Dang! This is just a fantastic song. Hunter, the Bass player from AFI, taught me about Bobby Hutcherson.
Still loving this video!
2 yes.
Great content, thank you! I will be waiting for more stuff like this 🙏
Nice haircut !
Love the candid reactions: “THAT is a cool phrase!” some of these mode mixtures are absolutely crazy!! Hahaha!! Mario coin noise included, score!

Parece que utiliza la técnica de Slominsky por algunos momentos para armar el solo. Hermoso hallazgo Tim!!
Very interesting.. I'm gonna check that out.
I always wonder what kind of mallet you use to get such a percussive sound

Yeah- the more you do it the better you get. Ear training also helps :) but I edit out all of the painstaking transcription from these videos
DT have you tried YT Looper for all your transcribing needs?
This is awesome on shrooms

You’re too stoned
Everyone thinks this, but it’s not true.
